Limit user groups
Hello, I'm trying to add a user to big list of Samba groups, 74 groups to be precise. The problem is that when the user reaches around 65 to 70 groups, it starts giving errors in User Manager for Domains, and causes a panic in Samba. Is there a limit for how many groups a user may belong? I'm using Samba-3.0.10 with openldap. This is what I get in the logs. [2005/02/07 13:22:42, 0]

Username map broken on Solaris ??
We have been using the same setup for years .. now we have introduced ADS server ala windows 2003.. joining with samba 2 with Security = DOMAIN gives an "unable to join domain" message. So I have installed samba 3, now joining the domain is fine, and on linux everything works perfectly, but on solaris it seems to ignore the "username map" option. Here is the config that

Samba 3.0.11 smbd hangs
Hi Guys, I have experienced an issue when the smbd stops responding, and after cannot kill the process, using SIGTERM or SIGKILL. A reboot cured the problem. I had the same problem once again a couple of days later. I realised that both times I had changed my smb.conf file directly, using vi, and shortly before the hang occured. The changes to the file were very minor, and the two were

Hiding not defined Printer Share
Hi, I hope the title is understandable? We have several Samba file shares set up on AIX 4.3.3 boxes and there are only file shares, no printers are defined at all. The files shares work great. However, when users browse the Entire Network in Windows Explorer (from XP Pro clients) it shows a printers and faxes folder on each Server. As there are no printers on these servers is there a way to

samba load
I am running samba-3.0.10 on a Solaris 8 box. The server is running as a DOMAIN_MEMBER in an Active Directory Domain. It has 8G of memory and 2 cpus. The smbd processes are started from inetd.conf. Lately, the server's load has been staying very high, from 10 - 14 and the smbd processes fluctuate between 1200 and 1600. This causes performance to suffer and clients start to complain that

Cups print jobnames became SMB jobname not doc name
Since upgrading to Fedora Core 3 the jobname for the files being printed to our PDF CUPS backend have become the Samba jobname as in "SMBPRN.888009.hjdcl" instead of the application filename such as "Microsoft Word - Document1.DOC". This stops us from providing a properly-named PDF file to our users. Our other server that is still on Core 1 does not have this problem.

trusted domain 'disconnected' using winbind
I have a problem with winbind resolving global groups on a trusted NT Domain. I want to use SQUID and NTLM Authentification and therefore the external authentification helper needs to check if a user belongs to a given group. When I do 'windbind -r DOMAIN+USER GROUP', only groups of the local domain are listed. It seems as if winbind couldn't find a domain controller for the trusted

Simple fix to horrible bug in Samba website CSS
Dear Folks, For a long time I have been unable to read the menu at the left of http://samba.org/ in my 1920x1440 display. All the menu items overwrite each other in a horrible, illegible jumble. I thought it might be a bug in firefox or something. Then I investigated, and found that there is actually a serious bug in the cascading style sheet for the web site. The problem is in

I've tried a few different procedures, but I'll only describe one here. 1) browse to the samba server in windows xp 2) double click on "Printers & Faxes" 3) right click on some blank window area and select

Documentation / boolean fix for oplocks = command
In the documentation the "oplocks = yes" option is give in an example, as the default for this parameter. However, I needed to turn oplocks off, and so assumed that the command "oplocks = no" would work. It doesn't, instead I found that "oplocks = false" does. There needs to be some boolean fixing done, or at least documentation should reflect this strangeness.

Samba 3.0.6 Problems w/AD and Kerberos
Running into a lot of people upgrading to the 3.0.6 package that all of a sudden begin to experience the "Failed to verify incoming ticket!" errors etc., that are generally associated with a kerberos package incompatibility. However many of these people are running later versions of kerberos *and* reverting to a previous version of Samba appears to fix the issue. Is there something new
