How to hire a samba developer?
I'm curious about how one would go about contacting/hiring a samba
developer to fix a bug, or implement a feature. I've got a particular
bug in mind (1493), but it seems like it would be a good thing to know
in general.
Thanks,

Participation on Samba lists
Luke Leighton (lkcl) has brought up his arguments about control
of Samba before. In October 2000 they resulted in the creation
of a new Samba code branch, samba-tng, which Luke and others who
agreed with his direction were free to do with as they will.
Samba-tng still exists, and we in the Samba Team still wish it
well, but what we can't continue to put up with is Luke still

Modifying SWAT views for general users
I'm looking at having my general Samba users change their own passwords on
my Linux server using SWAT. Is there a way that I can have them have
access to the password changing view and not be able to see the
configuration and status information. Is there an easy way for those
"button" to not appear on the web page?

Rails Powers #1 Selling Album Site
Just a heads up that the new record label site for Vagrant Records runs on
Rails and PostgreSQL. Right now it is FCGI based but we''re moving to
Apache+Mongrel next week.
It is looking like they are going to have the #1 selling album in the
country this week with Dashboard Confessional''s new record.
Just a note to let people know that Rails has penetrated Billboard!

Deryck,
Should we create a list of LDAP management tools that support
the Samba schema? For example, LAM & phpLdapAdmin.

Newbie: Directory Not Accessible
I am a newbie to samba. I have successfully setup a similar samba share on 1 machine in the past.
I have everything setup as User access with the pcguest as a guest account. If I create a share to
the /tmp, network users can access normally. I created a directory /var/snd and set permissions to
be rwxrwxrwx. I changed the smb.conf so that permission were identical to the share for /tmp. I

Problem getting share list from NetApp
We defined a share, sales_cifs_test, on our NetApp server. Note that the
length of the name is longer than 13 characters.
We can see the share with Microsoft Explorer.
We can mount the share from Linux using smbmount.
What we want to do is to get a list of shares from NetApp. The tools
that can do this are the samba programs smbclient and net.
Smbclient will not show names longer than 13

Hi, all.
I've been working on SWAT in trunk for the last few weeks. My work
started as nothing more than a cosmetic redesign, trying to modernize
SWAT and offer a clean, sophisticated interface. As I've gotten deeper
into this, it seems to me that SWAT could use some improvements to its
overall design -- not just aesthetically, but

what's the best filesystem
Curious what folks think the best choice of filesystem is, specifically
when used for Samba and regular Unix users (SMB+NFS access).
I'm using Reiser now but its slow and doesn't work good XP attributes.
I've also used XFS (a couple of years ago) and liked it but had some
troubles with cross-platform Unix and the extended ACLs.
What's the preference today?
Thanks

audit and recycle VFS modules
I have activated the audit.so module and it logs information about file
access but not in the format I want: it doesn't log the user name and
host name who performed each action on a file or directory. How can I
set the format of this log?
About the recycle.so module, it works but not always. Some "Permission
denied" lines appear in the logs regarding a file move towards
.recycle.

SWAT won't start
Hi,
I'm setting up Samba on a RH ES linux machine. I have basic functionality
working and can access a share from a Windows pc. I set up smb.conf
manually. I'd like to use SWAT but when I try to run it I get the error:
-- The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:901 --
I set up the xinetd configuration file exactly as I've seen online. Webmin
works fine.

development mailing list?
Dear all,
Is there a devel type list, as I can't see one in the mailing list section?
I am trying to gather the CVS checkout info for the Samba docs to update the
Samba-Guide/Happy.html section and also discuss the doc build-tree etc.
Thanks.

Samba 3.0.25, trusted domains and winbindd
I have a Samba PDC in a one way trust relationship with a Windows Server
2003 DC such that Samba is the Trusting Domain.
With Samba 3.0.23d I always used to leave winbindd running during a restart
of smbd/nmbd.
With 3.0.25, I have found that the domain "breaks" if I do this.
Denote the Samba domain by SAMBA and the (trusted) Windows domain WINDOWS.
When the domain "breaks",
