Unable to browse PDC from WIN2000 clients or clints from PDC
HI All; I can not browse the PDC from client machines (even though they log into the domain just fine). I am unable to browse the shares from the server or see any of the client PC's in the domain. I'm running REDAHT Linux ES 4, with Kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp SAMBA is samba-3.0.10-1.4E.9 I deleted all the logs and restarted samba and find only the following 3 log files created:

Need help getting roaming profiles to work
Hi! First, let me apologize for the length of this message. I wanted to include as much relevant info as I could and it got a bit lengthy. For reasons that I won't bother to detail here, I ended up volunteering to upgrade the server at my kids school. It's a small private school with an all-volunteer tech support staff (me!). We currently have about 40 computers serving about 150 people.

One account can access samba, another can't.
My wife and I each have our own workstation dual-booting WinXP and Gentoo Linux. We also have a third which runs Gentoo all the time. I wanted to set up samba on the third box and provide some extra storage space for both our Windows installs. It worked for a few days, then all of a sudden it stopped letting my account (michael) in while still letting my wife's account (amy) use the share.

Problems with nmbd (samba 3.0.10)
Hi, I've installed a samba 3.0.10 (configured with --enable-cups, --withsmbmount, --with-acl-support) on a standard SUSE Linux 9.2-Distribution with Kernel 2.6.8-24.10-smp. The Samba-Server works as PDC since a month now and does it fine. But one big problem still exists: After about 10-20 hours after the start of smb+nmb the nmbd stops working. The symtoms are: No new users can login into

Problem with network browsing
SMBv1 (the anonymous thing behind network neighborhood) because of the massive security problems it caused was decprecated. Microsoft came up with network neighborhood and they've shut it down due to their bad implementation. Samba, likewise, doesn't support SMBv1 by default. NMBD unresponsive
Hi there, I have found a problem with my Samba server 3.0.28. This problem appeared suddenly without any changes in configuration or server update. NMBD becomes unresponsive in some minutes after startup with these options enabled: name resolve order = wins lmhosts hosts wins server = 172.25.8.86 172.25.8.84 Unresponsive means that it is not possible to connect to server, nmbd eats full

Problem with network browsing
A reasonable alternative is to run Christgau's excellent Web Service Discovery host daemon (wsdd) on the samba server and make sure the Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication services are running on the Windows 10 machines. Get wsdd from here: https://github.com/christgau/wsdd.git You can then stop and disable the nmbd on the samba machines as it's

nmbd log error - register_name_response rejected?
Hello all, I'm in the process of moving over my Samba server (using LDAP). I believe everything is functioning correctly, except for this error I get when nmbd starts. Looking back at my old server, it was apparently doing this as well... so it may not even affect needed functionality. Still, I'd like to figure out why it's happening! If anyone has an idea, please let me

Sole purpose right now is to just be a WINS server on the corporte network. We have 3 VPN tunnels setup at remote locations that will need to access the network and browse the corporate network. Possible bug in nmbd.
Hi, My nmbd daemon is dying with an internal error periodically. Samba version is 2.2.7a (I think the latest stable) but I've tried with the Samba package that came with my Linux distro (a Debian Woody) and it failed with the same messages too. Here goes the log.nmbd file: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Netbios nameserver version 2.2.7a

Re: Questions about Samba and a WINS server...update
Ok...trying to follow up here and see if someone can help me out, and let me know what is exactly hapening here. I have a few ideas, but I wanted to post here. As I said in my previous post, I am having problems browsing the corporate network from a Branch Office. Problem with network browsing
If you have 1 member server, you could enabe nmbd in that server. Or install : llmnrd on linux and/or avahi-deamon if you dont have a member. And make sure you can use "proxy dns" as in, The primary DNS domain on linux should match (see in windows) CMD: ipconfig /all The : - primay dns suffix - DNS Suffix search order Then you are able to use \\hostname or \\hostname.FQ.DN.TLD
