*.tdb permissions
I'm running 2.11, and I've noticed a number of log entries that look
like so:
angie.log: tdb(/usr/local/samba/var/locks/locking.tdb): expand_file

[2004/10/03 15:14:36, 0] tdb/tdbutil.c:tdb_log(531)
tdb(/usr/local/samba/var/locks/brlock.tdb): expand_file ftruncate to

Hi,
I'm hunting a bug in 3.0.x (tested on 3.0.10 and 3.0.20). Users can
create and modfy files, but cannot delete them. The logs show

"could not open file /var/lock/samba/unexpected.tdb"
When I start winbindd (Samba v2.2.3a on Linux), I get the entries in
log.winbindd shown below. What's the story on all those complaints about
file "unexpected.tdb"? There is no general problem with Samba writing to
that subdirectory:

tdb failing and too many connections
I've run into a problem with samba and tdb reporting "too many connections"
If I do a typical configure:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba \
--localstatedir=/var/samba \
--with-lockdir=/var/samba/locks \
--with-configdir=/usr/local/samba/etc
I see errors like the following in /var/samba/log.smbd:

brlock.tdb and locking.tdb always missing on RH 7.2
Hi!
I've been fighting with Samba for over a week now and I can't seem to work
it out. It all started when I installed the standard samba (2.2.1a-4) which
came with RH7.2.
I ran "smbstatus" and got the following error:
Failed to open byte range locking database
ERROR: Failed to initialise locking database
Can't initialise locking module - exiting.

locks directory over nfs
Hello.
In our samba configuration, the lock directory is located on an NFS mount.
It seems that for some reason this causes many problems:
Some applications fail to save files properly (eg matlab), some applications
fail to print (eg acrobat reader), and each time those application fail,
we got a message on the log saying

I'm trying to set up Windows browsing between subnets. I've set up a domain
master/WINS server on the .0 subnet, and local masters on the .42 and .254
subnets, and I'm running into the above error on one - just one - of the
subnets. The strange thing is that I'm running exactly the same version of
RHEL on another subnet - and I'm getting no error.

Account not authorized to log in
I've been running Samba 2.0.3 on my dg/ux box for more than a year, without
any problems. Last week, I upgraded to Win2000 Professional, and ever since
have been getting the dreaded 'Account not authorized to log in from this
station' when I double-click on the machine's icon in 'My Network Places'.
Normally, I've seen this as a password encryption problem - but I get

Samba 2.2.5 under Debian 3.0 i386: Still frequent connections.tdb corruption

Hi there,
I'm still experiencing this worrysome tdb corruption even after I upgraded to
