Unable to view samba shares on Windows XP Home Client
I am not able to view shares on the Samba server, although I can 'see' the server with the 'net view' command. Entering 'net view sambaserver' results in network path not found. Interestingly, when I boot the same server into Windows XP (it's dual boot), I can view the server and it's shares from the Windows XP home client that cannot view the shares on the

Unable to access Samba shares from Windows XP home ed ition
Thanks Anders, I'll take this as verification that it can be done and struggle on. Does it require registry tweaks? > -----Original Message----- > From: Anders Widman [SMTP:andewid@tnonline.net] > Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2002 11:05 AM > To: samba-admin@lists.samba.org; Harvey, Sean > Cc: 'samba@lists.samba.org' > Subject: Re: [Samba] Unable to access Samba

Using Samba to Mount User Shares as Linux Home Dirs?
I'm trying to get a linux machine integrated into an all-Windows network. Following the instructions of the *wonderful* Official Samba-3 HOWTO, I was able to get the machine to authenticate with the ADS. I can also allow domain users to log into the linux machine. What I would like to do now is have a way for the users' network share/home directory in the window environment to be

Connecting custom home shares with ADS.
Here at the College we have configured a Samba server as an ADS member server and have everything working nicely except one rather large detail. The people that setup the domain accounts have custom "profile" and home drive locations depending on the last two characters of the user name. For example a user with the id of 545238794 will have their profile pointed to

Can't see windows shares by name
Hello all, I am having a small problem with a bsd box of mine. Using the file manager in kde, I can type \\ip_address and get prompted for a username and password for the coresponding server on my domain. However, When I type, \\servername, I again get prompted for a username and password, but it gets rejected. I think it is having problems looking up the name ... which is kind of strange

64 Bit XP client unable to add ACE on 3.0.24 Samba Domain member server
Hi all- I searched quite a bit and couldn't really come up with anything, so I'm posting to the list to hopefully find out if I have any options. I've got a production FC6 box running 3.0.24-7.fc6 build of samba server that's very stable for us. It's a member of an ADS domain w/ server 2003 domain controllers. Recent 64 bit windows XP pro boxes are having the exact problem

Interminttant trouble with DFS shares on XP clients and 2.2.8a
Hi all, Having just upgraded our IRIX 6.5 servers from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8a, we're now having trouble with the DFS shares that it serves to our site. Browsing (from 'Start|Run' \\servername) shows the folders we've set up. Double clicking on these allows us to go into them and see the DFS pointers. Double clicking on these produces:- \\net\user\homes refers to a location that is

AD integration and machine account access to shares
Dear all, I'm facing a weird problem that I can't seem to find any information about. I have joined in a machine running samba 3.2 into an Active Directory environment (security = ads). Even though user and group access works perfectly, when I try to access with a machine account, it fails to map it. "libsmb/ntlmssp.c:ntlmssp_server_auth(745) Got user=[] domain=[]

Mounting to the home share with Linux client, what syntax, etc...?
Greetings- Using Ubuntu 7.04 as the client OS, I am pondering how to automate a bit of "drive mappings" as I did previously with Windows. 1) What is the syntax to mount the user's home share? If possible I would like to variable'ize the username, or not even have to specify it at all. (Assume the user's Linux and Samba user names match.) 2) Suggestions / best practices of

bit by 3.0.8 username map affect on homes share
Samba is a domain member server authenticating to a MS-Windows domain controller. With 3.0.7 and all previous version for the past few years I could map a Windows to Unix userid in the username map file like so.. fred = fredw His home directory was then accessible as \\servername\fredw so \\servername\%username% from a Windows NTx client. I make EXTENSIVE use of that functionality. I missed

User has no privileges to add printer or even change his wallpaper
Hello I have a question related to Samba + Win2k Workstations. I have replaced a Win2k server by Samba (2.2.4). Everything was fine: the users could login and access shares, but they could not connect to printers shared on another Win2k workstations and even could not change their wallpapers. Since I needed to do that work fast, the solution I could find to this situation was to give to all

Windows 7 User can't change password
Hi list, Windows 7 Pro, joined to an NT-style domain hosted by Samba 4.5.16-Debian, installed by Apt. A user had issues authenticating with FreeRADIUS on the server, so I changed the password from terminal to a generic password, and logged her in. I then asked her to change her password by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete -> Change Password. I typed in the generic password, and told her to type in her

Sudden domain login problems from XP-pro sp2 clients, Please help!
I am running Samba 3.0.7 on Gentoo Linux. The server is configured for domain logins and roaming profiles, and there are about 40 Windows XP Pro SP2 clients that login to the domain. This has been setup and working perfectly since October, until this morning. Now, anytime a client tries to login, they get this error: "windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain

Accessing shares from 2 domains
We are splitting our users into 2 domains(DOMAINA and DOMAINB (changed for security reason)). I am having problems getting users who log into their workstation on DOMAINA to access a samba share on DOMAINB. We are using W2K3 servers as our AD with LDAP. Samba shares on are CentOS5.1 servers. I Can anyone point me to some docs on how to set this up? I have been rumbling through google for the past
