Winbind/nsswitch issue on Solaris 9 (Sparc)
Hi all
I need to set up Samba on Solaris 9 (Sparc) as a Windows Domain Member.
I took the precompiled 64-bit Package
(samba-2.2.8a-1-sol8-suncc-64bit.pkg) from samba.org, which comes with
pam-winbind libraries, and it installed fine.
I ran a test before with Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (Intel), but there I
compiled myself with ./configure --with-winbind --with-pam --with-quotas

Problem with winbind and nsswitch.conf on Solaris 8 server
Hello,
I'm having some problems using winbind on Samba 3.0.1 with /etc/nsswitch.conf on a Solaris 8 server. The Solaris 8 release is 10/00.
The basic problem that I have is that there are restrictions on what nsswitch.conf can contain if password ageing is used.
My setup is that users connecting to shares on the Solaris samba server are authenticated against a accounts on a Windows Active

Solaris nsswitch.conf with winbind
Hi,
I have the exact same problem (described in this archived mail below) but couldn't find any solution in the archives or on google.
So far, I have tried renaming one of the "allowed" libraries like ldap and then creating a symlink named nss_ldap.so.1 to point to nss_winbind.so.1 and also tried renaming in different versions of the /etc/nsswitch.conf file before and after

Using Winbindd in nsswitch.conf
Hello, all--
I've a question regarding using WINS for resolving names while on the unix
box. As I understand it, you're supposed to add something to the
/etc/nsswitch.conf file, but it's not clear to me whether it's supposed to
be 'wins', 'winbind', or 'winbindd' as in the following example:
hosts: files wins nisplus nis dns
hosts: files winbind

Solaris winbind with password aging (workaround inside)
A few days back, I asked whether it was possible to have winbind co-exist with password aging on a Solaris system. Seems like there is no easy way around this.
After a few more days of frantic poking and truss-ing around, I found a crude but seemingly workable workaround.
It seems the the library /usr/lib/passwdutil.so.1 is the one
responsible for checking that the passwd entry in

Solaris 8 + winbind
Hi
I'm new to this list. I'm running samba 2.2.2. on Solaris 8
and trying to get winbind to work. I've modified my nsswitch.conf file to
include:
passwd: files winbind
shadow: files winbind
group: files winbind
I have compiled samba with the --with-winbind option and copied the
libnss_winbind.so
files to /lib

winbind and compat mode in nsswitch.conf
Hay together,
is the following entry in nsswitch.conf possible ?
passwd: compat
passwd_compat: winbind
I want to use the compat mode, so i can use the +/- semantic.
But in this case i cant login with username/password.
If i configure the nsswitch.conf like:
passwd: files winbind
The login works, but so i cant use the +/- semantic.
Andy ideas ?
Thanks,
Andy

dovecot + pam + krb5 + nsswitch
hi,
anyone of you pls guide me what entries to put in nsswitch.conf
for pam to work with krberse, i'm trying to authenticate users from AD,
I thinks (my findings) pam.d/dovecot looks into /etc/nsswitch.conf for
which passwd databases to use while authenticating a users.
my krb setup is working fine I tested with "kinit username" and it
authenticat to AD server.

nsswitch not working for ldap
I am following the instruction in Samba by Example chapter 6 on a RHEL4
server. Everything seems OK until I get to 6.3.5.7, which says to do the
following:-
root# getent passwd | grep Adminstrator
which returns nothing, indicating that the nsswitch (nss_ldap libary) is
not working.
I cannot find anything in any of the log files to give my a clue nor any
hints on how to debug this.

Bad, good and then bad again ;-)
I would remove sssd, it isn't required if you are using winbind

Windbind requirements and settings
I posted this to comp.protocols.smb, but I'll give it a shot here too...
Background :
We have an existing Win2k domain, 2 Win2k domain controllers, all
working just fine. I've been using Samba 2.2.x for quite a while to
provide access to specific folders on *nix machines using Domain
security...So I'm reasonably familiar with how file/print sharing works.

Windbind auth
Hi,
I was able to get my server in the domain. I can see it from ADUC and
Network Places. But I can't get it to use AD to authenticate the users
that want to access the server/share.
Wbinfo -u and -g return the users and group of my MONTREAL domain.
Net ads info also returns the correct information about my domain.
I then tried to run getent passwd but that only returned the list of the

windbind and AD authentication - UPPER CASE usernames?
We're looking at using windbind and AD for our user account details but have run into a small snag. All user accounts in AD are upper case but our linux accounts are lower-case.
Is there a simple solution we've overlooked?
We really don't want to have to hack this...
Thanx,

windbind or ldap ?
Hello,
I'd like to know if in a full samba environment is it better to use
winbind or ldap to resolve id's ?
users will connect from windows clients, linux clients with samba or
also with ssh and nfs maybe.

windbind how-to ?
I have only been on the list a short while today, but mostly see winbind
questions...is there a definitive how-to for winbind and maybe faq?
Seems we need some better documentation with everyone having
questions/problems...
