XP clients unable to read user profiles (2.2.3a-14.1)
Hi everyone, thanks to John Terpstra's hint (teh old thread started with Msg crn5v6$sh8$1@sea.gmane.org), our xp clients now do join the domain :-). However, they still fail to read user profiles which were created by the old Win98 clients. The relevant parts of smb.conf look like this: ---------------------------- begien smb.conf ---------------------------- [global] domain

Samba DC issue.
Hello, I'm trying to use samba (Version 2.2.3a-6 for Debian) as a DC for a windows 2000 pro network. Everything seems to work OK, except the roaming profiles. Every few days (I haven't locked down a pattern yet) all machines connected to the server loose their connection, and no one can connect again until the server is rebooted. I'm using log level 3, and this is what log.smbd

NT_STATUS question
Hi all Got a couple of errors in the logs wondering what they mean??? Google does not come up with too much on these NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE, NT_STATUS_SHARING_VIOLATION, NT_STATUS_INVALID_LEVEL and NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND. Four clips illustrating the above are below... I have am wondering how I sort this out. I am particularly worried about the NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE. All the

Job Logs errorrs
We are running SAP on a HPUX 11 DB server, with 6 x NT Apps servers Occassionally we get a number of failures on batch jobs - across any number of servers, sometimes with the job terminating immediately on start up, or other times after several hours of processing. The jobs terminate but we are unable to view the job logs, and the error messages we are getting from samba logs are in the format:

shared files not locked -> samba culprit or clients?
hello, i have a question concerning the locking feature of samba (both 2.2.8 and 3.0.0) that i haven't found answered in the documentation. at this point i am not sure, whether it's a bug in samba, the client applications or simply a misunderstanding of the locking feature itself on my part - at any rate it's a pressing problem, as my clients are losing both their data as well as

Error connecting Win95 box to Linux.
Could anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong here? I'm using samba-1.9.18p8 on a Linux 2.0.32 box, RedHat 5.0 install. I can descend into this share from a WinNT box just fine, but get the following error messages from a Win95 box. large file pre-allocation causing Windows error
I'm trying to copy a 400 MB file from a Windows 98 host to a FreeBSD 4.5 Samba server providing access to a FAT32 filesystem. I've got "strict allocate = no", but from what I can see with debug set to 10, it is doing a ftruncate which takes about 50 seconds to complete. It appears that Windows gets impatient and generates an error (while Samba is still waiting for the

rsync HFS+ -> UFS2
Hi, This is my first post to this list. I have been backing up some files with rsync from My Mac OS X 10.4.7 machine, which uses HFS+ filesystem to a FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE machine, which uses UFS2 filesystem. They go across a 100-base-T lan, which has little or no traffic on it. On my Mac, I mount the nfs exported volume on the FreeBSD machine with: $ mount -t nfs moe:/backup

Updated Mac support
I have a zip file containing updated Macintosh support for Vorbis on my company's web site at the following URL: http://bDistributed.com/projects/vorbis-mac/MacVorbisUpdatesBeta3.zip I used Metrowerks ClassWrangler to build the file because StuffIt insisted on MacBinary-encoding the project files. StuffIt Expander seems to have issues with expanding it, so I'm not sure if it's

First write fails subsequent succeeds
I have been having a problem that has had me scratching my head for the last week and a half. I have searched with google, read the 13th hour troubleshooting guide (stopped when it got to the sniffer diagnostics), and have even upgraded samba to 3.0.0. I will post a description followed by a level 4 debug log file. When a user opens the "Public" share they can browse the share without

Samba 3.0.2a - Erroneously rejects NTLMv2 but accepts NTLM
Hello experts, I?ll try and keep this brief but detailed (if that?s possible.). I?m sure I don?t understand the technologies sufficiently but I believe I?m seeing counter-intuitive behavior with my Samba 3 setup. What I want is nice, tight Win 2K3 security. What I?ve got is ADS integration, including domain user authentication using winbind, but I can?t get the security level right. Problem

CPU consumption by samba
Hi, I'm having strange performance problems with samba and an application written with VisualFox Pro. This application is entirely installed in a Windows share and it has a hystory of strange phenomenons. Initially it ran fast on an old NT server (but that server has been replaced). It has strange performance problems with Windows 2000 Server: it runs fast with some servers and slow with

Here's my setup: Caldera Open Linux Lite (kernel 2.0.29) Samba 2.0.4a Windows Domain (Two Windows NT 4.0 Servers -- one PDC, one BDC -- and numerous Windows NT 4.0 Workstations) I can see my Linux box in Network Neighborhood on my Windows NT boxes. I can open the Linux box and see the top level shares available. When I try to open a share I see one or two anonymous folders. Anyone

Tar Failures Using smbclient from Samba 3.0.0beta2
I was trying to improve the performance of BackupPC http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/, which uses smbclient to connect to Windows systems to backup Windows desktop systems. I'm currently running Samba 2.2.8a on a fairly beefy Solaris 9 system and only getting 200-700 KB/sec from the Windows clients. The 700 KB/sec is when I connect to a dual-Athalon 2600+ Win2K system attached to the

dotless i problem samba3 - win98
Hello, I try samba 3.0.2a with Mandrake 10 Official release. It works pretty well but one exception, "dotless i", a Turkish character. The other Turkish characters works. If any filename contains dotless i, this file/directory is inaccessible from win98 clients. I setup with Turkish locale. And i run samba with "export LC_ALL=C". Otherwise it runs, but doesn't share

Sluggish server response
A user who had not been using the server for about half an hour had to wait for over a minute before the samba server would respond. This is using samba3-server-3.0.2a-2mdk. I hope to upgrade to 3.0.4 as soon as Buchan has the RPM ready. In the below log, the user tried to log in at about 10:27 or so. I think I'm not learning anything from this log, so I've also attached part of
