Anonymous printing and howto, dumb questions :-)
In samba howto collection it says :
...
Don?t use it if you want to protect your passwords. Better share the printer in
a way that does not require a password! Printing will only work if you have a working netbios
name resolution up and running.
How to set "anonymous shared printer" in Win 2000?
even if I give permision to anyone, Win refuses to gives list.

XP-client logs in, but does not load profile from server and only uses a local one.
Hi to all,
i'm new to the mailing list, because i already searched the whole list and
google fot this, but i could not find anything:
I have set up a cute Samba 3 PDC as described here:
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#id2498710
In fact the setup is nearly exactly the same. (I've just added one more
share.)
Then i used a XP client to load a local

user name with a dot not working
Hello,
I'm having problems with user names containing a dot. For example
"j.smith".
In our network we have Win2K PDC and a Samba server. smb.conf contains
this:
[global]
security = domain
password server = MYSERVER
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
[myshare]
valid users = j.smith
write list = j.smith
etc...
/etc/samba/smbusers file contains this:
jsmith = j.smith
And Linux box

Roaming profiles on a small network
Hi list,
I intend to run an old pentium 133 as a linux-based fileserver on my home
network (I have to use windows for my main machine and laptop!) Im having
great diffiuculty synching the data, email, etc on my laptop and desktop, so
I thought I might configure samba to act as a DC and use roaming profiles to
make sure that my data is always synched. My question is this: is it worth
the effort?

group mapping question
Hi All,
Just a general question about groups. I am upgrading a
Samba workgroup, server to a PDC. I have been reading:
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/groupmapping.html#id2589321
In this link, they tell of how to map a windows group to
a Samba group
net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadm rid=512 type=d
Question 1: if my previous

Username/Password not passed to Samba
Hi all,
Using Samba 3.0.0beta3 on FreeBSD 4.9 and a WinXP SP1 client. I was able to
join the domain with the WinXP machine, but I cannot log-on. The Windows
error message is about the domain server not found, no machine account, etc.
I set the log level to 3 and received the following output when I tried to
log-on:
"[2004/01/27 20:00:00, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:push_sec_ctx(256)

Problems joining a Samba domain
Hi,
I am trying to set up a SAMBA-PDC for our school's network and
find a strange Problem with two Win2k workstations.
When I try to join the SAMBA domain I receive an error which says
the user account - I am using root - is unknown.
I call this "strange" because other Win2k machines on the very
same subnet work correctly - and what is even stranger:
I can manually access all

Samba config
Hi I?m having difficulty configuring Samba running on FreeBSD. Samba
version is 2.2.8a. The scenario is that we have an NT4 domain and I am
looking to migrate the printers onto Samba. All of the printers are
connected via print servers, mainly HP JetDirect. As far as security is
concerned I am happy for guest/anonymous logon as the server will only
be used for printing but I have set security to

When logging on there ist the following activity in the logs (debug level = 1; log.pc1):

RE: Audio broadcasting... (fwd)
Hi vorbis dudes,
I've been trying to encourage vorbis use for a somewhat well known person
who is doing a weekly internet "radio" program. I guess they are finding
out that WMA isnt too cross platform :-)
Was wondering if someone could help out with these questions...
The encoding platform is windows...
Is vorbis suitable for 33.6k/56k streaming yet?
Would be a good opportunity

[PATCH 1/3] Only peek and discard packets from specified device.
This patch fixes a bug on systems with multiple connected network devices.
As packet_peek uses all devices to receive data instead of a specific
device. As the return value was never reset it was possible that packets
from other devices were returned by packet_peek. That means that the
ifindex did not match any ifindex of the specified devices the packet was
never removed and packets for the

We use local (!) GPOs on our Win2k clients with great success:
- log on to "master" workstation as administrator
- create a link to the "C:\WINNT\system32\GroupPolicy" folder on your

Problem with Ubuntu bionic R 3.5
Hi Michael.
I fear I'm becoming a pain in your back. Sorry.
The problem with the "Components" and "Suite" name in the "InRelease"
file for bionic-cran35 has been solved. *Many thanks for that.* However,
"sudo apt-get install r-base" creates an error message (again here the
German version):

suppose I have a multivariate multiple regression model such as the

Evaluation of defaults in functions
Hello,
and sorry if this is already explained somewhere. I couldn't find anything.
R (2.3.1, Windows) seems to perform some kind of lazy evaluation when
evaluating defaults in function calls that, at least for me, leads to
unexpected results. Consider the following, seemingly equivalent functions:
> foo1 <- function(x, y=x) {
+ x <- 0
+ y
+ }
> foo1(1)
[1] 0
> foo2
