Major Printing Failure Problem
Hi everyone,
I am using Samba 2.2.3a on a Redhat Linux 7.2 Intel server as a
printserver on a W2K PDC network. I have a Xerox 440 printer, an HP
4500 PS and an HP 4550 PS printer using my Samba printserver.
I am often receiving the following error message:
ERROR: syntaxerror
OFFENDING COMMAND:
STACK:
at which point printing stops and the printers start saying TIMEOUT.
Sometimes I can reprint

Printer Rights Fail
Hello everyone,
I upgraded my Samba server on my RHL 7.2 box from 2.2.3a to 2.2.7. Almost
immediately afterwards, all of my admin users suddenly were unable to access
the printers that were being shared by Samba. Any idea of what is wrong and
how to fix it? The messages I'm getting are that I do not have enough
rights.
I am using a Windows 2000 Server PDC and a lot of Windows XP Pro, and

Printing problem with Samba, XP, and Xerox Printer
Hello everyone,
I am having a problem getting Windows XP clients to print to a Xerox
DataCenter 440 using Samba as the print server running on Red Hat Linux 7.2.
I have installed the driver once and it worked fine. I then tried to add a
second XP client, and while it appears to install and work, nothing comes
out of the printer. It even seems to disappear at the print server.
Any ideas how I

How can I tell which users are currently connected?
I am running RHL 7.2 with Samba 2.2.3a using a W2K DC for authentication via
winbind. From the linux box, how can I find out which users are currently
connected to my box via Samba? This would help a lot when I need to reboot
the server or restart the samba service because of changes that need to
immediately go into effect.
Thanks

Multiple Groups, Different Permissions problem
Hello everyone,
I need to setup some directories (in RHL 7.2 running Samba 2.2.3a w/ W2K
PDC) to allow multiple groups, each of which has different permissions. If
this can be done on the Linux side, this would be preferred, but if it has
to be done in Samba, any help in understanding how to make this happen is
appreciated. I know Windows NT/W2K allows multiple groups and I would think

Multiple-level user shares
Can anyone tell me how I can do a multiple level user share? What I'm
having trouble configuring is a share that allows all users to use the first
directory of the share, and then in subdirectories of the first directory
only allow specified users access. I can't find anything similar in any
docs on the internet nor in the O'Reilly Using Samba book.
Thanks.

XP Client Connects to Print Queue, Sends, Fails to Print
Hello everyone,
I am having a problem printing to a Xerox Document Centre 440 ST from XP pro
Clients thru my RedHat Linux 7.2 server running Samba 2.2.3a.
The XP Clients connect successfully to the printer queue, sends the file,
but nothing comes out of the printer. At least for most XP Clients. I have
one PC that does print, but that person is also an admin on the Linux box.
I know the PCs

BackupExec 8.5/NT + Samba 2.2
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with BackupExec and Samba?
BackupExec refuse to access Samba shares. Windows shares are OK, but all my
Samba shares are not. I have Samba on at least 2 Linux 2.4 machines + 1 on
Solaris. Neither ones work with BExec.
Any idea? Other have experience with BExec and Samba?
Thanks a lot

Samba and BackupExec
Hi,
I've got Samba 2.0.2 and a server NT4 SP3 with Seagate BackupExec 7.0.
When I want to backup Samba with Seagate BackupExec, I get a message
saying "Unable to connect to server, <F5> to retry", and then another
one saying "A device specific error occured".
I've read all the Samba archive about that subject, but I do not find
any solution.

If you can see the server, but not shares, you most likely have not published any directories. What version of the BE agent are you using? I've noticed 4.6 works well (the install actually works well and will walk you through the setup to publish the directories to be backed up). It's often easier to just publish root (but exclude /proc /tmp). Also, I've found out that in the hosts

Subject: Samba and Seagate BackupExec
Hi Franck,
to my knowledge, the Backup Exec service "runs" under a certain user. In
most cases it is the user who installed it, so very often "Administrator".
Now if you try to backup a Samba share, Backup Exec tries to retrieve the
files of this share and has to authenticate to the Samba Server. I suspect
it will do this with the "credentials" of the user the Backup

Restoring original file permissions
Hello,
I've compiled and configured Samba 1.9.18p8 on a DEC Alpha running
DEC Unix 4.0b for the express purpose of enabling a Windows NT 4.0
server running Seagate BackupExec software to be able to see my Unix
filesystems as NT shares and back them up (as of this time BackupExec
does not support DEC Unix clients).
Test backups have worked OK, but I'm having problems restoring the

Anyone use AdvancedVOIP ?
Has anyone used the Voip Billing System from http://advancedvoip.com/ ?
They seem to also offer a billing solution for Interconnections. I'm
curious if anyone has some experience using their software?
Thanks,

but I don't understand what to change and where to change it and how to
change it, yet. Any documentation available specifically for rhl 7.2 and

All help is very welcome!
Thanks,

Hello list
The Samba Howto Collection repeatedly asserts that by setting the sticky
bit on directories any files created in those directories will be created
with the owner set to that of the directory (for example, see
http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/howto/AccessControls.html#id2541262).
This has never worked for me. Files created inherit the group of the
directory, but not the owner.

.'s in folder names
Hi there
We are trying to move over from 1 IMAP server to another, but the problem is dovecot does not allow .'s in folder names (and we have quite a number of people who do have .'s in their folder names (ie "www.domain stuff")
Is there anyway of allowing dovecot to allow .'s in folder names?
Thanks
