Can't join domain - new machine name
I have just implemented an NT Domain using samba 3.0.4 on Slackware 9.1, a very simple LAN with 4 or 5 clients. Clients: Win XP Pro. Everything looks OK so far, apart from this issue: I create machine accounts for existing client machines using their existing names ... works fine, they can join domain. Except that we want to rename the existing machines using a new consistent format (client1,

pdbedit
I have a couple of questions about pdbedit. I am having trouble using pdbedit in shell scripts. First, on a freshly installed system with no-one in the tdbsam database, trying to add multiple machine accounts via a loop construct in a shell script fails with a message that the database can't be found/doesn't exist. I then added root manually just to get the system going, which solves

Samba Upgrade
Hi Folks, I would really appreciate any words of wisdom people here could provide me. I have Samba 2.2.7a, as shipped with RH 9.0, running on a server, supporting about 25 W2k clients. The linux kernel is running in SMP mode to use the Hyper-Threaded Pentium-4 CPU. I have tried to create the simplest SAMBA setup possible, so have no LDAP, ACLS, etc. The 25 w2k clients are all architects

Shorewall / nmap question
I made the following adjustments to /etc/shorewall/common.def (1.3.13 with all relevant patches). ############################################################################ # Shorewall 1.3 -- /etc/shorewall/common.def # # This file defines the rules that are applied before a policy of # DROP or REJECT is applied. Compilation fails: SSL_TXT_SSLV2 not defined
Hello all, I'm trying to compile dovecot 2.2.21 on OS-X 10.11.3 and I'm running a bit of trouble with OpenSSL. I've cloned OpenSSL (OpenSSL 1.1.0-pre4-dev) from github and in openssl/ssl.h SSL_TXT_SSLV2 is not defined anymore. Compilation fails with: libtool: compile: gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../.. -I../../src/lib -I../../src/lib-test

configuring dhcp-relay / Shorewall
In our LAN a Linux-router connects 2 subnets. On this router dhcrelay is running. For several reasons we have to run a firewall on this box. But what is the right way to configure dhcrelay using Shorewall??? Thanks. -- Ad Koster <lidad@zeelandnet.nl>

AGI Script: calleridnamelookup.agi
Is anyone successfully using the AGI script calleridnamelookup.agi (or anything similar) ? I get both name and number caller ID from my POTS line, but I'd save money if I had them deliver ANI only. I've downloaded and installed the AGI script calleridnamelookup.agi, but I always get -- Executing AGI("SIP/9525485560-5359", "calleridnamelookup.agi") in new stack

Newbie group mapping question
I'm wondering if, in a context where samba 3.0.4 is PDC for an NT domain with XP clients, it is necessary or at least normal practice to map most/all NT groups (eg Domain Admins, Domain Users) to unix groups? Also, I notice when I do 'net groupmap list' that there are not only Domain Admins, Domain Users and Domain Guests, but also plain Admins, Users and Guests. What is the

local admin permissions
We have implemented an NT domain with samba 3.0.4 PDC on Slackware 9.1 and Win XP Pro clients. Everything is working nicely except for one issue. I haven't used Windows for years, so possibly I just don't understand something basic about Windows XP security ... Having logged in (to the domain), users are unable to perform tasks such as update certain files on the local system, for example

Dovecot 1.0.14 + osx 10.6 and authentication PAM
Howdy, Today I installed the new version of Apple OSX 10.6. Besides that it deleted the dovecot user, things went quite smooth. As far as I can tell it is running as it used to. However, I can't login to my account. It used to work fine with PAM taking the username and password from my osx installation. Now it doesn't allow me to login anymore. I have read on a website that apple

Storing W2K roaming profiles on a Samba - server
In our company's W2K-domain we decided to put all roaming profiles on Samba-servers (RH 9.0 / samba 2.2.8) The Samba-servers are configured for using DOMAIN-security. Part of our /etc/smb.conf look like [Profiles] path = /usr/local/samba/profiles comment = Profile-share browseable = no writeable = yes create mode = 0600 directory mode = 0700 We simply copied al the "old"

How to point R toward Ghostscript on a Windows XP system
A colleague designed a script for a bar plot, which I'd like to export to my directory via the barplot command: bitmap(file="barplot.tif", type="tifflzw", height=4, width=6.5, res=1250) Unfortunately, this command produces the following error message: Error in system(paste(gsexe, "-help"), intern = TRUE, invisible = TRUE) : 'gswin32c.exe' not found

Adding a static route in Shorewall
I hope any of you shorewall freaks would be able to help me with my problem. First a little network description: I have two zones: WAN net = eth0 (One IP address from my Internet Service Provider) LAN loc = eth1 (192.168.23.0/24) Default gateway (the Internet) for the local clients are 192.168.23.2 (the IP address of eth1) I have used all the guides at the homepage of Shorewall,

[Fwd: Re: What happened to this list?]
Interesting question. I'm not complaining, I find that the Linux/OSS world is in general amazingly helpful, and people do find answers on this list. However, I must say that several of my own questions here never got answered, and many others go unanswered. The samba team is doing a fantastic job, but yes, this list does seem short of people who have the time or expertise to provide answers.
