secret.tdb copied from server to server
Hello there,
We have Samba 3.0.2a installed on two solaris 8 servers in a failover cluster
(using Veritas Cluster Server). We're using it for windows and unix print
servers.
Right now, we have one server with one netbios name advertised (printserver1)
and the other with a netbios name of printserver2. Both have been joined to our
windows NT 4.0 domain.
We have an interface that fails

Migrating from 2.2.8a to 3.02a
Hi,
I've been going nuts for the last couple of days with the issue of migrating
from MDK 9.1/Samba 2.2.8a to MDK 10.0/Samba 3.02a.
The backend is LDAP.
Going through the documentation it seemed like everything would be sort of
simple:
Install new machine, setup smb.conf as BDC, rsync every share (including
homes, netlogon and profiles) across, set ldap admin password in
secrests.tdb,

A Samba's very basic problem
Hi everyone!
I'm troubled in such a very simple problem I think.
I've setup a samba server (version 2.0.7) in a linux machine (distro
conectiva 6.0).
I've configured the global, homes and printers sections correctly, or
at least it seems to be. I've also added my other shared resources in
the smb.conf file.
Then when I start samba server, I can see the netbios name of my
server

Samba client filesize problems
Filesize problems with samba client on Redhat 9 and W2k machine.
The original smbclient did this so I upgraded to the latest, it didn't
help. The server is W2k with an NTFS volume, these are video files - the
windows software breaks the files at the 2G limit, but for some
reason some are reported as 2G others as huge !!
One day I might own 25T of disk, but not today.
Anyone any ideas ?

About the interaction A:B
Suppose, 'fr' is data.frame with columns 'Y', 'A' and 'B'. 'A' has levels 'Aa'
'Ab' and 'Ac', and 'B' has levels 'Ba', 'Bb', 'Bc' and 'Bd'. 'Y'
columns are numbers.
I tried the following three sets of commands. I understand that A*B is
equivalent to A+B+A:B. However, A:B in A+B+A:B is

BBC
Thought some of you guys might like to know that that it looks like the
BBC are trialing Rails. I got a DB error when trying to connect to their
prototype cataloging system the other day.

Hi list,
If I have multiple Samba member servers in a domain can I store the groupmap data in LDAP? When I try this I get this error
# net groupmap add ntgroup=Everyone unixgroup=nobody

adding entry for group nobody failed!
But this works correctly (creates account in LDAP server)

The future for open streaming solutions at the BBC?
Hi all,
I recently emailed a query to the maintainers of BBC London website
(http://bbc.co.uk/london) asking if they had any plans to move away from
Real Server as a means for streaming audio and Video of their live radio
and tv broadcasts to something a bit more cross platform like OGG/Vorbis
or even MP3's. The reply I received was :
"I'm afraid we only plan to use Real Player

Access control question.
Hello,
I have a general administrative question concerning Samba shares.
I have a large amount of data that about 25 users have limited access to. I
only want these users to have access to a sub-set of this data, but I also
only want the users to see that which they have access to.
So, for example, suppose that the share looks like thus:
/smbshare
/smbshare/dir1
/smbshare/dir2

I've got a question regarding the restructering of a data set. What I have are municipality zip-codes and the names of 5'000 built-up areas within municipalities. The following example shows, what I would like to do:
Input (Zip-Codes and Names):
# CODE NAME
#1 3 aaa
#2 3 aab
#3 3 aac
#4 4 bba
#5 4 bbb

Scheduled Ogg streams for testing
Well we're testing scheduled Ogg streaming, but it would be nice to
test with an audience bigger then me and a few irc users, so I thought
I'd drop a note to the list.
http://support.bbc.co.uk/oggstreams.shtml
This will contain any scheduled tests to come and anything currently
being streamed. For scheduled stuff, only things we're given
permission to do by producers can go on

Winbind only enumerating 9% of domain groups
Hi All,
I'm having a strange pronlem with winbind. For users it seems to be working fine but for groups its not enumerating most of the groups!
A getent group produces only 325 lines of domain groups whereas wbinfo -g produces 2839 lines of groups. I'm not seeing any errors logged and all commands are exiting with status 0. Winbind related sections of smb.conf are shown below,

How do I get Winbind accounts in LDAP?
I've seen this posting before but I need to get a grasp on this. I am
using winbindd for users that don't have a local account on a Linux box.
I thought that placing the entries below in the smb.conf would create
users in ou=Idmap. Instead the ou=Idmap increments the uidNumber with
every user that is added, but the user ID mappings are stored in
/usr/local/var/locks/winbindd_idmap.tdb. What

Samba Winbind and LDAP backend
Just a quick question, it may sound a bit stupid but I just want to make
sure.
I have a Solaris 9 machine running winbind, the backend is an OpenLDAP
database running on a RedHat 9 machine.
My question is, apart from the 'smbpasswd -w' command and the obvious stuff
in smb.conf, do I have to set up the LDAP client on Solaris for Samba to be
able to put new mappings into the LDAP database?

I am having problems with the configuration of samba 3.0.1 on a Solaris 2.6

When I try to configure samba I get the following error.
