FW: Trouble with ACLs
Well, I screwed around a bit and after doing a "wbinfo -u" and a "wbinfo -g"
I stopped getting the "unable to map SID" error. Now I'm getting a
different error. ;-D

Conflict between NT-PDC and Samba 2.0.6
I've got a Solaris 2.6 SPARC system running Samba 2.0.6 and an NT-4.0sp5
PDC system. If Samba is running on the Sun system when the NT PDC is
rebooted it (the NT system) complains that there is already another PDC in
the domain. This should not be as far as I can see as I've tried
specifically to configure the Samba systems not to do this and in fact
prior to upgrading to Samba version

Bug or misconfiguration related to ACLs?
Hello,
I looked at my log file this morning and I see a lot of stuff about
ACLs that I don't understand and this notice:
INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in pid 23985 (3.0.9-1.3E.3)
I suspect that it was caused when a user tried to change permissions on
the contents of a directory or delete it (I'm trying to find that out
now). The directory seemingly no longer exists, so the user may have

Problem with ACLs "Too many ACE entries for file to convert to posix perms."
At the suggestion of Stas, I'm starting a new thread on this one. This
pretty much covers where I'm at right now:
Doug, thanks, here's a complete listing of the config file, and some
logging, hopefully this will be illuminating to somebody.

Yes, I've been setting it in the init script. When I do ps -ef | grep

ACL problem with WinXP and Samba 2.2.5-2.2.8
Trying to add users using security tab i WinXP doesn't work for us, no
users are added. Existing ACLs are possible to change and delete.
This behavior has been identified with both Solaris 2.6, Linux 2.4.9-31
with XFS, Samba 2.2.5 and 2.2.8. I'm attaching global part of out
smb.conf and a snippet from the log.
Our users are in an NT domain and in NIS.

Samba suddenly going nuts!
Hello,
we're running 2.2.1a on a production server. Lately, it's been giving
us troubles. Monday mordning, this moring, and 2 times more during
today, samba stopped responding to all requests from Windows (2000)
clients. This has happened once before a week ago, and once several
weeks ago. Today it seems to be getting much worse.
If left un-attended the system will eventually run out of

Winbind + ext3 ACLs
Hi folks,
For the longest time, I've had a problem changing or modifying ACLs from
my window clients. Whenever I tried, I'd get this in the logs:
[2004/07/29 12:36:26, 0] smbd/posix_acls.c:create_canon_ace_lists(823)
create_canon_ace_lists: unable to map SID

I could change the ACLs using getfacl/setfacl, btw.

Hi List,
I have some severe problem with Samba 3 with ldapsam
backend on debian stable.
The problem is that I can not change the rights
of a file or directory on the server from Windows.
I get this in smb.log:

Posix acls problem
I'd very much appreciate some help with a rather major problem I'm having.
I have a Dell 6450 quad Xeon Processor machine with 8GB of RAM and 1TB
of disk (RAIDed with an Adaptec 5400S RAID controller). It is running
samba (2.2.8) to server up files to around 2300 Windows 2000 machines.
The machine was originally installed and configured around September 2002.

ACLs on 2.2.0-alpha3 with Solaris
Hi
I'm trying out samba-2.2.0-alpha3 on a Solaris 8 box.
When I look at the ACL for a file from a windows 2000 client I see the ACL, but
the usernames only appear as SIDs, rather than names. What can I do (if
anything) to have things map symbolically? Both the Samba server and the
Windows 2000 client are members of an NT4 domain.
The entries I get look like:

create_canon_ace_lists: unable to map SID...
I'm running Samba 2.2.4 using security = DOMAIN and username map. I was
able to join the Samba server to the NT domain. I can also access the
Samba share from my W2K machine. I log on to my W2K machine using my
domain account. I'm having problem adding permission (grant access to
another user) to the file and folder I created. I get the following error:

AW: create_canon_ace_lists: unable to map SID
Hi Ian,
Thanks for the fast answer.
How can I find out whether this is the NT domains SID?
The interesting is that i can see all files/Dirs without problems in the
Filebrowser of Arcserve.
Thx
Stefan
