I've got a Solaris 2.6 SPARC system running Samba 2.0.6 and an NT-4.0sp5 PDC system. If Samba is running on the Sun system when the NT PDC is rebooted it (the NT system) complains that there is already another PDC in the domain. This should not be as far as I can see as I've tried specifically to configure the Samba systems not to do this and in fact prior to upgrading to Samba version 2.0.6 (from 1.9.18p10) it did not. I don't remember making any relevant configuration changes during said period but have included my smb.conf file below for your consideration. Please help... is this a Samba bug or just misconfiguration!? Michael, I'm having the same problem here with Samba 2.0.5a on a Linux box fighting with NTS4/SP5. I'd love to find a resolution! In my case the problem turned out to be the "domain logons = Yes" setting. There's a fix on the NT side. We resolved this issue by changing the following value in the registry on the NT server: The registry path is \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters The key is IsDomainMaster The value must be set to "TRUE" This makes the PDC the preferred Master Browser always. After rebooting, the NT server wins the browser election and does not detect another PDC on the network. The strange thing is that the SAMBA workstation still shows up as a BDC. What was more disturbing, actually, was that the owner of the True64 Unix (v5) workstation running SAMBA 2.0.6 never had to have his machine added to the Domain by the NT administrator. Does anyone know if that has changed in 2.0.6? Previously, SAMBA servers always had to be physically added to the Domain in question at the NT server. Big security implications otherwise.
