How to use the "profiles" - command ?
One problem when migrating from an NT-PDC to a 3.0.4SAMBA-PDC, the user ABC
has different SID's. So I want to change the SID of user ABC on the
SAMBA-PDC with the profiles-command.
Suggest:
User ABC in Domain NT has SID S-1-5-21-1234
User ABC in Domain LINUX has SID S-1-5-21-9876
So, on the Samba-Server I did:
Profiles -c S-1-5-21-9876 -n S-1-5-21-1234
I get the error message:
Could not

Network with DHCP and Samba with LDAP backend
It's been a while since I have addressed this problem, but here is another attempt.
We have a samba 3.0 server with ldap backend in security = user level.
We logon to the samba domain and in that sense everything is running fine, but only when I disable DHCP.
If I try to logon with DHCP, the windows client tells me that:
The following error ocurred validating the name "IFS".

user 'root' does not exist
Hello list
Sorry if this has been answered before, I have had a look around and
could not find any answers.
I am running samba 3.0.3pre2 on suse 9.0 - installed from suse rpms.
I have managed to join the 2k3 domain and users are authenticating
perfectly and all seems to be working, (users have actually remarked
about a speed increase!) although i get this strange message in the
log.winbindd:

local admin permissions
We have implemented an NT domain with samba 3.0.4 PDC on Slackware 9.1
and Win XP Pro clients. Everything is working nicely except for one
issue. I haven't used Windows for years, so possibly I just don't
understand something basic about Windows XP security ...
Having logged in (to the domain), users are unable to perform tasks such
as update certain files on the local system, for example

Logon script, help please
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting a logon script to work...
I have created a DOS batch file (timesync.bat) and placed it in the scripts
directory of the server.
The file contains only one line - net time \\ptlserver /SET /y
My smb.conf "Globals" section is:-

 workgroup = PTLTRAIN
 netbios name = PTLSERVER

Samba - LDAP - User cannot login from 1 workstation
Hello, everyone,
This is the situation :
We have 2 sites; one domain; 2 samba's on every site; one is PDC, the
other is BDC.
They both use LDAP; the LDAP has a master on the site where the PDC is;
the slave LDAP is on the site where the BDC is.
There is a user (ONE to be precise) that gives problems when working on a
specific machine.
When the user logs in using his machine; he

File "In Use" when it's not... problem
Hi. Occasionally a problem crops up with "File already in use by another user" when it isn't !! This is usually a Lotus organiser data file which is on the RH8/Samba 2.2.7 server. I can't find a way of clearing this "Lock" except by rebooting the server... there must be a better way, any ideas ?
Thanks
Mike

No, isn't. but you have to try; 'cos, in my opinion, of course, you
won't login in bdc;
but, the roaming profiles (home directory) must be in pdc;
if that works, you will try set (in bdc):
logon path = \\PDC\blablabla... (for win

smbfs and i/o errors
Hi guys,
I hope I've reached the correct mailinglist. I'm experiencing a problem
with smbfs. You can mount shares, but after a while, the connection is
broken and all sorts of strange stuff happens. I've got a share called
/mnt/ntshare which remotely mounts an NT host:
[arnow@foo /mnt]$ ls
ls: ntshare: Input/output error
cdrom/ floppy/
[arnow@foo /mnt]$
[arnow@foo /mnt]$ dmesg |

Updated from 2.2.8a to 3.0b3 gives smbtar newer failure
Hi all,
Situation:
We use smbtar for backups, incrementals done using -N <last date file>,
and this has worked well with samba 2.2.x
After upgrading to 3.0b3, using the -N (newer) option to smbtar causes a
bad interaction with smbclient.
Eg,:
# smbtar -s PC -x Share -u User -p Pwd -d / -t - -N last-backup -v
gives (if you print out the eval at the end of smbtar script):
eval

Netlogon scripts
Hi List,
maybe i missed a hint on google, but i didn?t find
a answer to following question:
is it possible to cascade the logon scripts...?
for example:
there is a standard script for all client-pc?s called: netlogon.bat
and in addition there is for some client-pc?s a
additional script called by the %m switch in smb.conf
kind regards

Sending voicemail with qmail
you can do that. But are u installing qmail and * on
same box. i wont
recommend that. i use qmail and *. qmail is strictly
for internet email. *
is on separate server not exposed to Internet. * box
also has sendmail. i hv
configured sendmail to use smart host (qmail server).
This way its safe and
secure.

Dear Sirs,
I am an economist, and I have learned about R from an statician.
I would like to get some instructions on which packages of R should I
install. I am intending to use R for graphical analysis, correlaction, and
also estimation - this latter the least, since I have an econometric
package which performes it very well. I should also mention that I am going

OpenSSH-39 not sending syslog msges to proper files
Hello All,
My testing of OpenSSH-39 compiled with tcp_wrappers in hpux 11.11 and hpux
11.23 points that sshd is NOT sending the syslog details properly to
specified files. This happens when I set the syslogfacility as local7 and
Log Level as INFO for sshd. However OpenSSH -38 works correctly for the same
setting.
I denied a host in /etc/hosts.deny and sshd should send a message "refused
