All I want!!!! (Winbind)
Well, I am a bit confused. I am DESPRATE to get winbind to use the same GID and UIDs on several machines... But I am having a headache doing it. I need to run an LDAP server, I guess, so I put one together with the most basic things. But I just simply can't get it to run. Is there any site or document I can read that will show a most basic LDAP setup that would run my idmaps? I just need LDAP

Downgrading to 3.0.2 fixes this.
I can get log files, but

Argh!!!! Winbind Stability!
Ok... This is annoying. Winbind doesn't seem to be 100% stable. I am using 3.0.4 and Winbind is attached to a Windows 2003 server. I am cheating, using RPC rather than ADS.
So here is the issue. Generally everything works. I do a wbinfo -u and all comes back. I do a getent passwd and a good list comes back as well.
The problem is sometimes with individual users, I do a "getent passwd

Winbind - NIS?
Am I missing something here? I thought winbind was supposed to act similar to yp/NIS? That winbind is given a range of UIDs and GIDs that would be higher than anything on the local system and winbind would translate out a passwd entry for each Windows domain user (again, identical to NIS). That I would only have to add a user to the windows DC, and that when that user tries to log into one of our

Winbind - More Info
Ok.. I figured a lot of this out... But I am lost on how to keep the UID and GIDs identical.
How do I make sure system A uses the same IDs that system B will use?

I know, I'm too lazy, but I was wondering when the binary for Linux/Debian
Woody will be available. I could find only the version for unstable (Sid).
TIA,
Stefano

R-1.4.1 crashes on Debian Woody
Hi-
I've upgraded to Debian Woody. I've downloaded and installed the new R-1.4.1.
However, it crashes on me, complaining about libblas.so.2.
BTW, what's the difference between r-base and r-recommended?
Any ideas?
TIA

Getting Samba3.0.9 to work on Debian(woody) for AD Authentication
Hi,
I am using samba 3.0.9 on Debian (woody) IA 64 bit server. I have made
a post on linuxquestions.org which contains my compilation and its
arguments, krb5.conf, smb.conf, also my kinit and wbinfo -u, g, t, all
of which work. I also have the official samba guide and samba by
example. I do not have telnet installed and have tried to configure my
SSH PAM options. I was wondering if anyone

domain groups in samba 2.2.3a debian woody
Hello, I'm using samba 2.2.3a in debian woody. I've set up the debian server as a PDC, and clients can join and log in fine. What I'm now looking for is how to set up groups for my users. When I try to set the security for a file in windows, I see the users on the linux server, but no groups. How do I map between unix group and samba groups? I've seen mention of the

My PDC Conversion Project
I have 3.0.2a (with about 75 machines/users) installed as a PDC for my Win2k users and found an oddity. (waiting for a bin version of 3.0.3 for RH8.0)
All was fine before I left 2.2.8.... But now when users hit <CTL>-<ALT>-<DEL> and change the password, they get "domain not available". When they log in, they get the logon scripts to execute, and anything else I do to

Festival Installation - Asterisk 1.0-RC2 && Debian Woody
Hey All,
Thought I'd take a bash at trying to get Festival to work here on my lab
system with the aim of using it to create our IVR menu prompts. I've
spent most of the afternoon searching through the Wiki, the Festival
website and Google and I've got a couple of questions.
First one is that the 'Asterisk+festival+installation' page on the Wiki
mentions the RedHat 9 RPMs

'passwd chat' for Debian Woody password sync
what is the 'passwd chat' line for Samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on Debian Woody that enables
password synchronisation with Windows 2000 clients in a domain?
I currently have this in smb.conf but it doesn't work:
