couldn't find service ?
Hi, Please could someone explain this to me. I have a basic setup with Slackware 8.0 and Samba 2.2.8a running purely as a fileserver for our win2k machines. I've just looked into var/log/samba.mike (that's me) and it shows... clients logout .............
You should be able to click Tools/Disconnect Network Drive from a Windows Explorer window, then select the connection to the Samba server and click ok. Note, this can be done even if the connection was not mapped to a drive letter, such as by typing \\server\share in the run box. You can then map a drive to the server with a different user account. Stopping new directory creation ?
Hi, I've been looking for a way to stop users creating new sub-directories under a top level (shared) directory - which will need to contain 3 readymade directories and/or to stop users placing files outside the 3 readymade directories. Is this at all possible ? Got a really basic system - Slackware 8.0 and Samba 2.2.8a running purely as a fileserver for Win2k clients. Thanks Mike

File "In Use" when it's not... problem
Hi. Occasionally a problem crops up with "File already in use by another user" when it isn't !! This is usually a Lotus organiser data file which is on the RH8/Samba 2.2.7 server. I can't find a way of clearing this "Lock" except by rebooting the server... there must be a better way, any ideas ? Thanks Mike --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Scanned with

Log entries with truncated service names
Hello all I am running Samba 3.2.8 over CentOS 5.2, with a LDAP back end. On some days, not all, strange entries appear in the Samba logs. I get entries like this: [2009/03/18 18:35:09, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(1366) aurora (192.168.0.22) couldn't find service netlogo The real name of the service is of course "netlogon". Another example for the share named

Very strange truncation error
Fellow Samba-lovers: I'm encountering a very peculiar error. I first encountered it when doing an upgrade to Samba 2.2.8a (from a fairly recent version---I don't recally exactly which, but it couldn't have been older than 2.2.7) on FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE. The error I'm encountering is twofold. In the first example, I try to connect to the "shared" service, which results

Unable to open new log file /usr/local/samba/var/log.smbd: Too many open files
Hi, I have a weird problem using Samba 2.2.5 on a Slackware 8.1 Linux distribution and a Compaq Proliant 3200 machine. Normally everything works just fine, but when opening an assembly drawing in a CAD application on a W2K client, which consists of a lot of sub-drawings, all connections to this client are closed, and following lines are written to the smb log. Strange segfaulting bug in Samba, has something to do with logleve.
Hey. I seem to have the strangest problem with samba. I have been running samba on a total of four machine, without a problem. Now with a new machine, it won't work. UNLESS I set loglevel to 10 in smb.conf, now thats weird. If I remove the loglevel parameter from the smb.conf (so it reverts to default, what.. 5 ?) it crashes after just a minute or so of use. Here is first a log from the

Strange error messages
Hello, I've configured a small Linux box just for sharing some disks and route the traffic across two networks. This works fine, since Samba can join the domain of my NT4 PDC by Winbind. But I get those strange error messages on my logs, even if all seems to work correctly. This seems regarding to winbindd: Jan 27 11:03:25 wanda winbindd[1015]: [2003/01/27 11:03:25, 0]

I have a server running slackware 9.1 and samba samba-2.2.8a and have WinXP Home (SP1) on a client machine. Sending message to connected users ?
Hi, Is there any simple way to send messages to all users who are connected to my Samba server. I've just a basic fileserver setup (in a workgroup not Domain) all clients are using Win2k and mapping to shares. I'd like to be able to send them a "popup" message from the Linux console (or my PC, or somewhere !) to let them know when I'm intending to reboot the server !

Problem with samba and ldap
Hello and happy new year :) I have to set up a samba server as a PDC with a openldap backend. My openldap server is fully functionnal and it is not secured yet (so no problems with tls). I must use debian etch or lenny. My server's IP is 192.168.9.10/24. I have set up a dns server (bind9) for my domain named "mik". It's a local domain for testing only. There is a piece of

log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m creates 2 logfiles per client
Hi, I wonder why 2 log files per client (log.$IP and log.$NETBIOSNAME) are created when "log file" ist set to "/var/log/samba/log.%m". I have tested this with Samba 3.0.14a, 3.0.13, 3.0.11, 3.0.10 and 2.2.3a. Samba 2.2.3a was the only release which created only one log file. Is that a bug or is there any sense in saving 2 files with exactly the same content? cheers, karolin

MIssing Log Entries in /var/log/messages
Hello, has something changed in CentOS 5 logging behavior? I get no entries in /var/log/messages when I start or stop services (httpd, ssh, etc.).
