Printer Problem: Canon LBP-1000 & Samba (2.2.[3a,4,5])
Dear Samba people I am experiencing a weird problem with the above printer: When I upload the printer driver to Samba to make it available to clients that connect to the printer, these clients start showing printing problems but only in some applications. OpenOffice gives the following error message when trying to print: _____________________________________ |OpenOffice.org 1.0

My R code is not efficient
Dear R users, I have two n*1 integer vectors, y1 and y2, where n is very very large. I'd like to compute elbp = 4^(y1) * 5^(y2) * sum_{i=0}^{max(y1, y2)} [{ (y1-i)! * (i)! * (y2-i)! }^(-1)]; that is, I need to compute "elbp" for each (y1, y2) pair. So I made R code like below, but I don't think it's efficient Would you plz tell me how to avoid this "for"

printing issue after update to 3.6.1
Hello, we've updated to 3.6.1 yesterday, and since encounter problems with printing for some users. There's a descriptive error in the log.smbd, but I can't see what to do about it really (the rest of the, admittedly fairly ancient system, is the same base system as the previous 3.5.5 - only a couple of security updates were patched in during downtime). The message in log.smbd is:

Typo in Samba HOWTO collection example 19.2
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, Since the samba-docs mailing list is closed, I figured this was the best place to post this. I believe there's a typo in example 19.2 ("Overriding global CUPS settings for one printer") of the official Samba HOWTO collection. The "print command" parameter in the [special_printer] section contains several echo commands,

Printing via smbprint to a WinPrinter
Hi all. I would like to print from a Linux Server to a printer connected to a Windows ME machine. I'm able to connect via smbclient, with smbclient //windowsme/printer -U '' -N and I receive the smb> prompt Now, when I try to print any file, nothing comes out from the printer. The printer is a Canon LBP-810 which, according to www.linuxprinting.org site, is a WinPrinter. My

Can't print from applications in W2K to Samba (version 2.2.3a, Debian woody)
Dear all I am currently setting up a Samba server and am experiencing a bit of a problem with printing: I have a Canon LBP-1000 connected to the Samba server via the parallel port. Printing directly from the machine works fine. Printing to the printer directly attached to my W2K client works fine, too. When I try to print from the W2K client to the printer connected to the Samba server, however,

How do I get the @#$$% job name to show instead of smbprn.yada.ya da?
I'm tinkering with this mod to my smb.conf, and can't get the actual filename to be displayed in the printed job history. It's adapted from one Joel put out on the list last year. My impression is that it works for everyone in the world but me.... All that ever shows up is smbprn.yada.yada... in the printer's history of printed jobs. print command = echo %J %p %s >>

Samba-CUPS interface
Hi, One of our Samba server (4.4.5) is a print server with CUPS backend . In addition we are using a print management product that is itself a backend to cups. Everything works well, except that the document names that are transmitted in the chain is of the form : "smbprn.00000648 MyDocument.pdf" . I guess that the prefix smbprn.00000648 is the samba job ID that is concatenated to the

not enough charcters available in %J or confusing blanks?
Hi, I try to create PDF files with an modified script from Buchan Milne and have some problems with the Jobname var %J. The problem is: In %J in some circumstances is not the complete Jobname as

Problem with cups print job name
For some time I had been running samba 3.0.10 from RHEL4. I have a samba -> cups -> pdf printer set up which uses the user supplied job name for the output file. The job name was formatted like this "smbprn.00001020 Microsoft Word - Test.doc". Since then, RHEL have updated to samba 3.0.25. The job name supplied to cups is now a random string of characters like

USB->Parallel cable compatibility
I have an installation where we're replacing a rather old Linux box with a new one that has no parallel ports. The old box has two parallel ports going to Okidata printers. The IOGEAR GUC1284B USB to Parallel Adapter cable looks like it might be a simple solution to this, but I would like to know that it works before getting a couple. Comments?
