very slow link between Win2k SP4 and Linux samba server (2.2.8a)
I've been experiencing an incredibly slow samba access from a Win2k SP4 client to a Linux samba server (Mandrake 9.0, samba 2.2.8a). It seems like the file transfer rate is not so slow, but the initial opening of files on the Linux samba server takes very long (10 ~ 20 seconds). The directory listing is also very slow. In the past, it took me about 2.5 hours to compile Mozilla-Windows

Is Samba for me? (win2k sp4 pdc -> samba)
I have a Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 PDC (AD backend) that I'd like to replace with Samba. The docs on samba.org are a bit confusing though, here is an excerpt from Chapter 4, "Domain Controller Types": Samba-3 servers can readily be converted to and from domain controller roles through simple changes to the smb.conf file. Samba-3 is capable of acting fully as a native

Printing problems Win2K SP4 on 3.0.x and 2.x
I'm afraid I am stumped, and need some help or pointers. Ever since I've "upgraded" my Win2k boxes to SP4, I've been unable to print to Samba-shared printers (on Solaris and Freebsd). Originally I was running the current 2.2.x, and figured trying to diagnose the problem would provide an impetus for trying 3.0, which I have from beta3 through RC1. That bit of history is

W2k, SP4 and Domain logon
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all. Yesterday I had the funny idea of upgrading all my Windows 2000 Professional worksations (20 W2k boxes more or less) to SP4. I run Samba 2.2.8a on a glorious RedHat 6.2, and after the endless download-and-reboot I found with no W2K client able to logging in. I skimmed the mail archives, tried a bunch of suggestion from really a lot of

Win2K sp4 can't print
Hi, I just installed 2 Win2K sp4 workstations on an otherwise working Samba 2.2.8a network and 2 of the 3 printers are showing "Access denied". What's up with that? The other computers that are working just fine are Win98, XP and Win2K NOT sp4. Here is part of the global section: printing = bsd load printers = yes disable spoolss = yes printcap name

Offline logon from Winxp/2000 Client doesn't work
Hello, I've installed samba 3.0.24 recently and since then I cannot login on my Windowsclients if they are disconnected. If I have a connection everything is fine. I'm at a loss what else to do. The only hints for offline logons I've found all refer to the use of samba with ADS. I have only one samba server in my network(no winbind). The clients are unchanged to my prior

intermitent domain logon failures
I have an issue where at odd times, maybe after 3 days, maybe after a week, people suddenly cant do domain logons. Unfortunately the machine is 50km away so i'm sure theres more details I can glean once I can interogate the users a bit more. Things I have noticed: Anyone currently logged in can still work fine. A restart of samba fixes the issue (till it hapens next). ps ax shows smbd and

Samba mapped drive to XP on logon
Hi- I'm having a recurring problem with Windows XP and a Samba share on logon. More specifically, I have a Samba (v 3.0.24 on Debian Etch) share with share permissions (not a domain) mapped to a drive in Windows XP Pro. Whenever someone logs onto an XP Pro computer in the network the drive isn't there. Here's an example: Say there's a document on the shared drive and a

Domain logon through VPN with WINS
Hi! I'm experiencing some serious problems setting up Samba as PDC. File sharing works fine and I can even add my computer to the domain, but when I reboot I can't log in with my samba username and password. I've previously set up similiar server, though it wasn't trough VPN. I'm running latest Debian Etch with every package upgraded. I've also tried some older samba

Win2K Workstation Disconnecting Shares from Samba Server
Team: I have a Linux Server running Debian Testing (2.4.18 kernel) and Samba 2.2.3a-12.1 It's been running GREAT. This is a marvelous product. I have a minor issue, though. 2 of the 14 Win2K (all at SP3 and fully "Windows Updated") will "disconnect" the shares on the Samba server after only a few seconds of inactivity. This isn't typically a problem, except that
