Windows 95 connection problem.
I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem that's driving me potty! I have a network at home of various flavour of Wind*ws and a Mandrake 8.1 Linux box. After much trial and error, I have set the sytem up so I can log on to the network from WIn NT, Win 2k, Win 98 - but, no matter what I try, I cannot get a Win 95 machine to connect. I have installed the vrdrupd.exe file on the Win

Help needed using Samba over SSH (DOS works, Win9x doesn't)
Hi all, I've been trying to mount partitions on a UNIX machine behind a firewall on a Windows machine. This works fine inside the firewall, but from outside I need to tunnel through it using SSH. I can get this to work from a DOS window on the Windows machine by forwarding port 139, but when I try to access a file from the GUI, I get a "bad directory" error on windows. An

Trouble with Samba and Dos-apps on Win 95
Hi, last weekend, I removed my old Novell-Server and replaced it by a Linux-server, running kernel 2.2.5 and Samba 2.0.3 (Suse-Linux 6.1). Almost everything works fine, but there are 3 Dos-based applications, that have a strange problem. These applications run in a Win 95 Dos-box. They are all written by the same company. There are selection boxes, e.g. a printer driver selection box, which do

Connecting to 1.9.18p10 from DOS boot diskette
I'm trying to connect to aSamba 1.9.18p10 share on my HP-UX 10.20 host, using an MS-DOS boot diskette (well, actually a Windows 95 boot diskette, but relying on the DOS-style protocol stack, etc.). When I issue the same username and password that I use to connect to that share from my Windows NT client, I get an invalid password message. Two things come to mind: is the DOS client sending my

Samba 3.0.2suse (9.1) and dos file attributes (ro/hidden/system)
Good time of a day. I have a problem with samba 3.0.2suse and dos file attributes. Users (winxp,2k,98) cannot change ReadOnly file attrib on files that don't belong to them. Example: user1 in group main create file test, he can change file attr or date/time, but user2 from the same group main can not. Sorry for my bad english. Here is my smb.conf: [global] dos charset = CP866 unix

Bug-report: Booting DOS images from USB
Hi, I'm doing a small hobby project writing some tools to put DOS boot images and Linux rescue images on a USB stick. For this I have partitioned my USB stick in 2 partitions, one 192MB partition with a VFAT filesystem (for the normal use) and a second partition with an ext3 filesystem. My aim was to provide a graphical menu (grub) to access the different images using memdisk. Since

DOS Shortcuts in NT
I have run accross an interesting problem--one that didn't happen in 95 but that happens in NT. If you create a shortcut to a DOS program and store that shortcut on a samba drive, if the path where the shortcut is stored has a non 8.3 path, the shortcut won't work and says that it cant find the shortcut.(!) I'm guessing it has something to do with the way that MS deals with the long

Printer redirection of old DOS Software
On our old Novell-2.2 server we had a program called CAPTURE to redirekt the printer output of DOS programs to the network printer. (Some old DOS programs only know LPT1:) Now i am locking for a CAPTURE replacement for our new Samba server. I tested PRINDIR Version 9.0 and LPTTOFL Version 1.0 out of a DOS-Box within WIN 3.11 and WIN 95. Both programs work fine with pure DOS but have timing

Multi-user databases (DOS application) in WIndows XP and Windows 2k file locking problem
Hello all! I discover a strange thing. We use and develop DOS financial accounting application, written on Xbase (formerly known as Clipper). This application agressively uses of file sharing and locking (byte-range and all possible for DOS combinations), creates and uses huge amount of index (NTX) and Dbase III (DBF) files on network shared resource. Network clients are Windows 98se,

Passwords fail from Win95 but not from DOS (Samba 1.9.16p11/NetBSD)
Hi, I'm having some problems with Samba 1.9.16p11 on a Sun3/60 running NetBSD 1.2. I have a Win95 client and a couple of DOS clients on a single ethernet segment (it's at home :-). I've set up a simple configuration, intention was just to serve files from the Sun to the PC's. Everything works perfectly except authentication from the Win95 client. I can connect to the Samba shares

Using Samba for DOS type file sharing
Dear List, (History) My company has an old DOS based application that we run from our Windows NT4/Windows2K workstatsions. This DOS app is based on DB3/DB4 (yea the old (1987?) one with one file per table and separate files for FKs and the like ) Anyhow...we had it on an NT server that we would map a drive to and then launch...peachy. No we have more users of that application < 15 and our

Mapping of Network Drive through win9x dail-up networking
Hi Thomas, Really Thanks for your advice. I have tried your suggestions but problems still remain. My findings is that some Windows, regardless of version, can map to Samba through dial-up networking but some just cannot. I try to find the difference between these Windows but failed.
