Drive mappings disappearing
Hi to all!
I have another problem related to samba (2.2.7 on RedHat 7.3). Some users
reported me that drive mappings are disappearing. I have enabled Reconnect
at Log-On option every time when a Drive mapping was created.
Any idea, suggestion?
Thanx

Samba fileserver limited to 50 MB/s on gbit
Hello,
I am running a fileserver with smbd here.
The server is a 64bit 2.8 GHz Celeron D with 2GB RAM, running 64bit Debian,
Samba version 3.0.23c.
It is running as a pure fileserver so its only CPU load is serving files.
The client I am doing the tests from is WinXP Pro SP2.
It is connected via Intel e1000 gbit ethernet (both the server and client
use e1000 chipsets).
I have done a raw tcp

NT4 PDC and Samba 3 issues...
I upgraded an old Samba 2.x install on Debian that I had at a customer
location. Authentication to the PDC was via winbind. Everything worked
fine in the past except the RAID died so I rebuilt the RAID, copied over
the old volume, and ran apt-get update && apt-get upgrade. Now I have
some really weird Samba problems:
I can connect to my share on Samba.
I can create a dir, a file,

Rails3 rails console throws error
Hi,
I am trying Rails 3 and I am using RVM to manage the ruby versions.
Using RVM I had installed ruby versions 1.8.7, 1.9.1 and 1.9.2
When I do "rails console" I am getting the following error and console
isn''t starting: http://www.pastie.org/1026503
Since I dont require 1.9.1 any more to work with Rails 3, I un-installed
it using the following command:

An Interesting Issue in Samba Performance
Okay Ive had a day of it today , and I thought I would share this little
support event experienced today.
A Client site of mine runs Samba 2.2.8a connecting to a series of
Windows XP boxes via a Netgear Switch/Hub.
Earlier in the week they reported that certain applications, most
notorously Symantec ACT were performing at super slow speeds.
A non site investigation showed that any file

[LLVMdev] PATCH (rest of code changes) "bytecode" --> "bitcode"
Here is the bulk of the sanitizing.
My residual doubts center around the question
whether we still do/want to support (un)compressed *byte*code
in 2.0/2.1.
I need a definitive word on this to proceed.
My understanding is that bytecode is already gone, but there are
still some functions/enums that really deal with *byte*code
(instead of *bit*code).
I did not touch those areas, so the attached

smbtar: stdout & gzip
I need to zip the output of smbtar, but it seems to me that the tar extensions of smbclient don't support any zip option; if I'm wrong please tell me and stop further reading :)
I'm trying to pipe the output of smbclient/smbtar to gzip.
Basically something like:
smbclient '\server\share' -E -N -Tc - | gzip > test.tar.gz
However I have a problem with smbclient tarring to

2.0.3: smbtar slow in restoring to a pc
I've already posted about this to the samba list and samba-bugs (19990301); no
response, so I retry here.
A win95 pc, and a linux 2.0.33 with:
1) smbclient1.9.18 (patched to restore subdirs)
2) a patched smbclient2.0.2 or smbclient2.0.3.
On the win95 pc there's a share, this share contains a dir with:
MB 4
Files 142
Subdirs 2
Tarring from the pc to the linux box takes:
1.9.18: 10sec

smbtar skips files, why?
Hello,
I'm using Samba version 1.9.18p10.
I am trying to backup a Win95 disk with smbtar, but it skips lots of files
without any apparant reason. For example, I have a directory C:\Acrobat3,
with various subdirectories. With smbclient I can see and browse them just
fine:
smb: \> cd Acrobat3
smb: \Acrobat3\> dir

smbtar and long filenames
Hi, I've looked through the samba archives, and saw no messages related to
this. Is there a way to get smbtar to tar long filenames? When I restore
the files, they're all cut down to 8.3 format. smbclient does see the
long filenames of an NetBui drive, why doesn't smbtar?
Thanks.

smbtar file size limit.
Hi all,
Tring to create a backup of a 30 odd gig samba filesystem. I belive that
the maximum smbtar can create is a 2 gig file though. Anyone knwo a way
around this? I don't really want to split the backup up, i want it to
