X flag in smbpasswd?
mksmbpasswd.sh does not create accounts with the X flag in the password
flags field. Does this X matter, and if so, what does it mean? It's not in
the man page.

Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi,
I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using
folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller.
If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret.
There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received
feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these
methods.
I would like to include in the new book

How to control TEMP directory
This is a slight rework of my last question but should be clearer.
My samba installation appears to be trying to use /root/tmp as its temp directory. This is
useless as when logged in as a user the system has no access to the temp directory and so
nothing works. How do I pursaude Samba to use /tmp as the temp dir. I am running Samba
3 on a Mandrake system.
Thanks

Auto mapping to windows home drives?
This could be quite simple but I don't know how to do it.
Does anyone know how I can automatically mount a users home drive (which is
located on a windows server) when they log in? Is there a pam module for
that?
Thanks very much,
Sapan

Problems with Default user profiles.
All,
I currently have a problem where the default user profile is not being picked up - Windows simply ingores it and creates one based on local settings.
I understand samba supports default user profiles, and one can be put into the profiles share like this:
/export/profiles/Default User/
This directory contains a copy of a working profile from a proper user.
The relevant smb.conf sections

telnet and samba
I have posted this question twice without any response.
We are running samba on an OpenUnix 8 machine, then we are mapping the
samba share on a Windows 2000 machine. If we run our process from the
Windows command line..(copying files to the share) everything runs
great. The problem is if someone telnets to the Windows 2000 machine
and
runs the same process they get "The specific network

AppleTalk(netatalk)+Samba
Hi folks,
is anybody using those two products together and can give me any advice
on how to do this? My specific issue has been addressed in other posts
before, but as nobody responded, it would just now be interesting if
anybody at least uses those applications together successfully?

A Group Policy Question in Win9x (yes, another one).
I am wondering if anyone has ever answered the question of group policy operability under Windows 9x. That is, I am _not_ looking for a work-around but the real thing--one config.pol file to service several groups.
I have done my homework, hopefully well, but found nothing. To prove this, I will quickly summarize my findings below. Either I have found:

ok, so oplocks: good or bad?
I have been searching for info on this and haven't found an
authoritative answer. From what I have read, oplocks are good because
they increase connection speeds, but they are bad because they don't
really work, but they actually do work, but they only work in some
cases, etc etc.
so, here's my problem and my question together: I get tons of these

Encryption
Kevin,
Firstly, you need to obtain the DES libraries.
Then you need to tell the Samba Makefile that you wish to compile in DES encryption services and link
with the DES library.
Then in the smb.conf file you need to add to the [Globals] section:
encrypted passwords = yes
Then you need to create a separate smbpasswd file. Please read the documentation in the docs directory
of the Samba source

Samba vs Windows SAK
Has anyone seen this:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/Embedded/sak/evaluation/compare/advantage.asp
And has anyone from the Samba team posted a response? It seems like some of
the information presented there is contrary to what I know about Samba.

Replacing WinNT 4 PDC with Samba PDC
Hi All!
Thanks to all of you that responded to my previous posts. I've gotten a lot
more info now than I used to have!
But I still have questions. The biggest right now is: Is there a way build
up a Samba PDC as a direct replacement for an existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC?
All the material I've found to date is written from a standpoint of creating
a new domain as you create the Samba

Problem authenticating with Samba (security=domain) + Windows 2000 PDC
Hi all!!
I'd set up my samba 2.2.7 to auth with "security=domain" mode, but my
clients cannot auth successfully never because the samba server cannot
"talk" correctly with my PDC(w2k adv. Server).
In the computer manager event, I see authentication request but with
empty usernames......so the PDC reject the authentication request.
Is this a know

Maximum number of shares
I am looking forward to create more than 1000 shares on a SAMBA server.
Is it possible?
Are there any known limitations doing so? (number of concurrent access)
Thank you for your help.
