Samba misconfig... (long)
I am trying to get my samba setup running (after putting it on the back burner for a few months with other issues). I am running Samba 3.0.0 on a SuSE 7.2 install. I have a linux box (clyde) and a Win2K box (Badmonkey) connected via a firewall/network. My smb.conf file is shown here: -- # Sambxa config file created using SWAT # from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) # Date: 2003/12/04 05:28:37 # Global

Samba and W2K printer issues
I posted this query a couple of days ago and received no responses. SInce that time, some other info has come to light that I thought would be useful to helping to solve this porblem. My network consists of a firewall machine networked with a SuSE 7.2 workstation and a Windows 2000 workstation. My smb.conf file is below: # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) # Date:

smbmount and credentials file
I have a small LAN: SuSE 7.2 with Samba 3.0 and a W2K box. What I can do: I can create shares from the W2K box that make files from the Linux box visible. I can also manually mount (using % smbmount ... ) from the command line as root. Here is where I run into problems. The only way I can mount a partition via smbmount is if I use the username=user%passwd option. If I attempt to setup a .smbpw

which print tool: CUPS vs BSD?
Which printing mnechansim works best with Samba? CUPS or BSD? I suspect that BSD support in Samba is not the greatest. YASP (Yet Another Samba Problem)
When I attmept to mount a PC (W2K) share via my fstab, I get the following error message on the mount: "Unknown parameter encountered 'file'" Truth be told , samba is becoming more and more frustrating. The only thing I have been able to successfully do is to make visible my NFS mount point across my file server to my W2K machine. I am running SuSE 9.1, Samba 3.02a Enclosed is

Printer shares will not work - 2.0.7
First allow me to issue this disclaimer... The following problem is most likely due to my own ignorance. Now on to the problem... I'm setting up some printer shares that allow automatic driver installation to Win 9x clients [printer$]. When we try to use these, the drivers install beautifully, but we get the following error message when we try to print: "There was an error writing to

APW New Driver Greyed Out
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have done this before, but for the life of me cannot get it to work today. I am trying to setup SAMBA to allow non-technical users (one per site) to add printer drivers as needed. I am running Samba 3.0.24. Following are the relevant entries from smb.conf. # workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgroup-Name pid directory = /var/run/ workgroup = BACKUPS

smbprint
While trying to configure my *nix box to print to windows, I discovered my samba build does not have the smbprint utility. I saw no option in the configure/make script to build with the smprint utility. Is there an option that will build this tool? Thanks! Printers configured using CUPS web interface disapper after restart
Hi all, I set up a samba server as PDC and counfigured one local printer connected to the samba server's parallel port and another jetdirect pritner with ip 192.168.0.10:9100 using the CUPS WEB INERFACE. Both were working fine and I could print from windwos clients also. Samba server was configured on a test system. So saturday evening I shutdown the system and today when I started the

XP client printing junk to printers installed using print$ share
Hi all, I have installed samba server and pritners. Instead having to put drivers to all clients, I decided to use the print$ share, so that, as I read, I can also make use of printing accounting. I did all the requird steps to install the pritner on my FC4 system, put all the required driver files to the print$ share, added the driver files to samba (npcclient adddriver) , verified samba can

Paris Meeting on Dec 20, 2004 - réunion à Paris le 20 décembre 2004
Hi, Just a quick word on this since I was fortunate enough to attend. There were about 18 people, almost all French (if you include the marseillais as French, they may have objections :) Not that I was counting, but there was one female human there. Thanks Mark for your generosity and the good choice in restaurants both this year and last June was it? The souffl? au Grand Marnier was very nice,

IP Appears Rather Than Servername
Since we updated to 3.0.6 we are having an oddity that the server IP appears in printer UNCs rather than the IP address. For instance printer \\barbel\grdps appears in the printer status box as "192.168.1.9 on grdps". It still works, but this is both odd and unsightly. DNS forward and reverse is working. It does this on both our 3.0.6 servers. On adding \\sardine\pdfconv print

Best method for this?
I have two linux machines and a W2K box. I am going to upgrade the linux boxes SuSE 9.2 this coming weekend. The one box (WS 1) will be acting as a distrubuted 'server' for files/applications and a impact printer. The other linux box (WS2) will be my primary workstation. The W2K box will be used by other memebers of the family. I want to use WS1 as a Samba server and be able to share

Samba.. not worth a f*** for printing
Gotta love these people that appreciate all the effort the developers put in when clearly they are click and grunt experts who can't be bothered reading a manual. We got samba going and migrated a test bunch towards it printing on about 60 printers. HP drivers work a treat when it came to setting our A4 size paper but some printer drivers like Panasonic and Epson have crappy setup.exe
