Why can't I see this share machine in Network Neighborhood
Help!
I have a simple home network. I have samba [2.2.7a]
running with the smb.conf file listed below. I can see this
machine in network neighborhood on a Win98 machine and a
WinNT 4.0 machine, but I cannot see this share from a Win2K
machine.
If I issue a net use command from the cmd window on the
Win2K machine I can mount the share and then open it as normal.
WHY can't I see

Can't reach Samba shares from Win XP Pro
This seems to be common enough problem. I've used a variety of methods
(command line as well as utilities like LinNeighborhood) to mount XP
shares on my RedHat 8.0 running Samba 2.2.7. I get consistent problems
the other way around. Despite a couple of shares on my Linux partition,
I am just unable to do get to it. Network Neighborhood shows my
Linux/Samba server but no shares, nor can I

Win XP 'Network path was not found' Error when connecting to Samba share
I am running a network with 2 XP boxes and 1 RH8.0 box running Samba 2.2.8a (bin pkg). I have also tried Samba 2.2.5 (the included distro ver.) and Samba 3 (not in depth though).
I have added my WinXP username/passwd to smbpasswd and to the Linux User list. I've tried encrypt passwords and have even tried playing with the 'gpedit.msc' in Win XP to turn off encryption to 3rd party

User Rights
Color me stupid!
I have set up a small SAMBA network using a Caldera Systems eServer 2.3
implementation of Linux with a AMD K-6/2 and 128 meg RAM. It works
great from one computer, and one user id, but I am unable to login as
any other user. The one user is set up in such a way that it would
create a serious security hole (member of group root). The server shows
up in the network neighborhood,

Problems sharing HP Officejet 6210 Linux --> XP
[cross-posted from www.tek-tips.com]
Dear samba forum,
I've now wasted most of a weekend on this issue, so now it's time to swallow
my pride and ask for help!
Background:
My main home computer died. I can't afford to replace it right now, so I'm
attempting to retread an old AMD PC into a linux print/file server. Clients
are a mixed bag of Windows XP home/professional PCs. The

wins support = yes time server = yes
When I set:
wins support = yes
time server = yes
my wins service stops working and no computers show up in the network
neighborhood..as soon as I change time server = no, they start to
re-populate.
I have looked around and havent found a definitive answer (apologies if I
overlooked it)...
but if someone could tell me if this is a documented issue, or just me that
woudl be great
Thanks

Is it possible to map shares via Network Neighborhood?
We're running Samba 2.2.2 over an NT network. Our clients use Win95 (for
the time being) and I wondered how we config Samba so they can map the
shares using network neighborhood. We can map fine through MS-DOS, but
when I try, for example, to map E drive to \\nfssrv\ads share via network
neighborhood (where we ARE able to see the shares), it says
E: is already connected to .

Cross Subnet Browsing.
hi,
I need a hand setting up cross subnet browsing. Does anyone have some
good news group postings, or a HOWTO?
I have 2 samba servers, and 2 subnets. Each servers sits on it's own
domain/workgroup. I think this should be much simpler than it is,
and perhaps I am just missing one or two settings.
Of the 2 servers: A, B I would like 'A' to do any serving or

command "net join ads Administrator" and tells me
testbox is joined to testnet.lan realm and i see it on
network neighborhood,but I can't open

OS X Clients Can't Create Sub-Directories
I'm running samba on a local linux server, with a bunch of shares. Over the last several years, this has worked perfectly in our heterogenous network of OS X and Windows. All my windows clients still work perfectly - my users can mount the samba shares and create, rename, move etc files and folders.
However, recently (starting yesterday) my OS X clients are unable to rename any sub

WINS setup / browsing
I just successfully upgraded a server from v 2.2.8 to v3.0.7. When I
execute smbstatus or swat it correctly shows v 3.0.7. When I browse thru
network neighborhood it still shows v 2.2.8. I stopped samba, and removed
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/browse.dat & wins.dat. Then restarted samba. It
still reports v2.2.8 thru network neighborhood. In viewing browse.dat it
shows 2.2.8. Where is this

Second Windows Computer Disconnects First
Hi,
I'm setting up a Linux machine to use as a file server for a small group of
windows machines.
Like many of the folks who write to this list, I'm having all kinds of
difficults getting the Windows machines to be able to access the Linux shares.
In my case, the most frustrating thing is that all of my Windows machines and
users can access the Linux shares SOMETIMES. But

Windows can't see Samba server in Network Neigborhood
I have a private IP network with one win98 PC and one Linux PC. The
windows machine can only access shares if I map a network drive and type
the path in explicitly. When I go to network neighborhood the Linux PC
does not show up. Both machines are in the same workgroup, so it should
be there. When I type the path directly into the address bar in network
neighborhood the program stops

Samba 3.3.0.obeta3, Redhat 9.0, Win2k ADS integration
My goal here is to add my Redhat 9.0 box to the domain and authenticate
to the ADS Win2K domain from my Redhat 9.0 box.
I have read the user gorup archives, man pages, for smb.conf and winbind,
and I have read Head/3.0 documentation, specifically this part is where
I started:
http://us3.samba.org/samba/devel/docs/html/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#ads-member
The docs are sadly not complete....
