trying to prepare to go live this weekend
Asking these questions again, I have read/re-read the documentation and want to get these ideas clear before I commit. Any answers on any question will be appreciated. 1 - Group (Linux) - Groups (Windows) seems to confusing to me so I mapped Groups to Group in the smbldap-tools and the nss/ldap.conf so I would only have one group called Group. This seems reasonable to me - is there a problem with

Samba PDC problem
Easy one. I have win98 clients that login and connect to the shares fine. My problem is the user home directory, each user can see their folders and can even open them but they cannot save to their home directory. Each users home dir is setup as 0700 (-rwx------), as are the files and subdir's, which I believe is Read, Write, Execute for the owner of the file. What am I missing? Chris.

winbind running in PDC Samba server
Hello, HOWTO chapter 21 describes the use of winbind daemon in a Samba domain member Server, but it's possible (and desirable) to run winbind in a PDC Samba server? The question is due to it that in that case it seems it is not necessary winbind for authenticate/mapping users against a external WinNT4 PDC, the Samba PDC perform authentication itself (and the mapping its not necessary, because

NT4 Migration Question
A client has an existing NT4 domain with several NT4 servers. Two of the NT4 Servers function as a PDC and a BDC. We are installing Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro as a PDC with an LDAP backend, and decommissioning the NT4 PDC at the same time. So far, so good. We can also rebuild the old PDC hardware as a Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro BDC. Unfortunately however, the NT4 BDC cannot be removed from the network

RE : RE : Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Thanks But this is for demoting a PDC to a BDC. I've done that already. What I want to demote my BDCs to standalone server. I'll give a try to upromote. Can't login to Samba PDC
We're trying to migrate from a windows NT domain to a Samba domain. I've installed Samba 3.0.2a with an LDAP backend. The server seems to be running fine as I can browse the shares from a non-domain Win2k workstation after a successful password check. The workstations join the domain just fine but after I join them to the domain I can't log in to them. I've checked my schannel

Problem joining XP SP2 Machines to the domain
Hey All: I've got a working samba/ldap domain with a PDC in a datacenter and a BDC in my local office. I'm not able to reliably join a windows XP Pro machine to the domain by specifying the PDC as a wins server. I get the following error 90% of the time or more, with no discernible patterns or errors in any logs: --------------------------------- The following error occurred attempting

crash using bmp() on windows with Rdll2010 (PR#756)
A few weeks ago I have updated R-1.1.1 for Windows with the fixed R.dll (Rdll2010.zip) for Win2k from CRAN. (I have used the same version of R from WinNT4 *and* Win2k for some time.) Now I tried to produce a bitmap, but R crashes (WinNT4): bmp("bitmap.bmp") plot(1:10) dev.off() ## crash! That does not happen with the original R.dll from R-1.1.1 (15 Aug 2000). I cannot test on

WinXP - Can Join 2.2.2 domain - Not log on
I have read through the mail archives to find a solution to my problem... to no avail. Here is the issue: I have a Samba 2.2.2 acting as a PDC, with Win2k I can join the domain and logon as a domain user. No problem. (So it is working and set up properly). With WinXP - Pro, I can join the domain, successfully. However, once I do the reboot I cannot logon as a domain user as I did with

Re: R-help Digest, Vol 2, Issue 26
With the same system configuration (WinNT4 SP6 and 1.7.0), I get such a Dr Watson crash each time I try to use the Change dir... command in the File menu of Rgui.exe. I doesn't seems to happen if I do this immediately after starting R but well if I already did some computation. I don't have any problem by using directly setwd(). "Account Unknown" problem (Samba3 domain users in WinNT permissions)
Hello, I'm suffering a estrange problem in a WinNT-Samba3 environment. I have two servers: WinNT4 (PDC of domain A-DOMAIN) and Samba3 (PDC of B-DOMAIN). A-DOMAIN and B-DOMAIN trust each other (I had followed the procedures described in HOWTO Chapter 16 successfully). The problem arises when I assign permission in WinNT server's folders (A-DOMAIN) for users in the Samba domain (B-DOMAIN).

win2k client slow with samba 2.2.3.a - maybe a bug?
This sure looks like a bug but maybe a configuration error on my part. I am trying to migrate out current OS/2 Warp 4 based file server to Samba. We have OS/2, Win98, WinNT4, and Win2k clients. I set Samba 2.2.3a up to use security = SHARE as this appears to be the closest to what the OS/2 Warp4 based system supports. All clients are able to access the files on the Samba service but loading

XP 2.2.8a issues
I have some 30 XP boxes in one offices joined to a w2k domain. The w2k server has no problem mapping drives on the samba server, however, the XP workstations refuse. Put in user name and password in the box after mapping, and it just pops back up like you've entered a wrong pass/user name. I have changed signorseal to 0 in registry to no avail. Of course, when the server was NT4, I

PB upgrade to samba 2.0
After I have upgraded from previous version to 2.0, I don't manage to authenticate from clients (winnt4) to DigitalUnix3.2c with Samba anymore. Before the upgrade it worked fine. After the upgrade, my password is rejected. It's really a authentication problem because it works fine if I add "guest ok = yes". On the server I have: security = share On the client:

PATCH: OS SSE support detection for GCC on Windows
libFLAC for Windows compiled with GCC/MinGW can't detect SSE OS support: it can't use GCC+Linux detection code and can't use MSVC+Win32 code that uses SEH (__try/__except). So it doesn't use any SSE/SSE2/etc routines. One way to fix it is to call configure script with --enable-sse (flac will probably crash on Win95/WinNT4 but who cares). Another way is to add a new code just for

This worked great last time I figured what do I have to loose... I can mount to myself mount -t //sambaserver/dir /test/samba this works fine...I even have username and passwords going through a win nt box.
