Samba... help!
I need some help to configure Samba. I have two computers on my LAN, one running WinXP, the other running RH 8. I've tried to configure Samba, using both manual text mode and WebMin/SWAT. But nothing seems to help. I can see both computers in Network Neighbourhood (My Network Places), but I can't access the Linux box. When I try it, I get the following error message: "Linuxbox is

Configuration Problems
Hello all I need some help understanding what is failing with my Samba installation. I compiled Samba 2.0.6 on a Sparc Ultra-II Solaris 2.6, using GCC version 2.8.1. I have read in some of the docs that there may be some support for shadow passwords but could not find a definition regarding shadow in any of the compile scripts. The SMB and NMB processes are running as deamons. I am unable

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members, I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and /etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed from

Problem cooperating with Windows and AD
Hi, I'm having a problem getting my Windows machines to access shares in Samba. When they browse to the Samba box it sometimes gives them an error saying that they don't have permission or that the server is unavailable. However this doesn't always happen and other times it lists the shares. When I try to access the shares it just prompts for the username/password over and over.

trial2: problem with loggin in
Sorry I don't think my first trial worked I am just starting to use samba, and I keep running into the same problem time and again. I have installed SAMBA 2.0.2 correctly and have (i think) a correct smb.conf file. Now when I try to log on to one of my shares it will not let me in. I get the following errors when logging in: [dutchboy@lisa dutchboy]$ smbclient \\\\lisa\\dutchboy doing

SWAT works with Webmin but not via localhost:901
I have tried everything that I know of. I have reviewed the services file and the swat file in xinetd.d a tun of times. It appears, via netstat that swat is listening on port 901. However when I attempt to access it via the Mozilla browser on my Fedora server (with 127.0.0.1:901 or localhost:901) nothing happens. It just sits there. However, if I access it via webmin (which has swat stored

Domain / Server disappear from network neighbourhood
Hello I attached my smb.conf as a reference but the problem is quite simple: 1) my server didn't show in the network neighbourhood 2) often the whole domain didn't show at all in the n.b. and if I try to access it directly (i.e. typing the domain name) I got a strange error ("cannot find the network path") P.S. Every single machine (server included) is viewable if

SWAT and adding users.
Our local LUG (MadLUG, Madison WI USA) is setting up a small Linux Samba server for a local community center. Because much of the day to day administration will have to be done by community center personnel we are going with web based admin tools (Webmin, SWAT). Unfortunetly we have run into a few problems. NOTE: System is a SuSE 6.2 with a new 2.2.12 kernel on a P133, 32MB RAM 1) SWAT does

Convert Unix users to Samba users
Hi, I just installed a new Centos 6.1 machine with Samba 3.5.6-86.el6_1.4 . I use Webmin to administer the server and configuring Samba (SWAT is also available in Webmin). I have chosen the option to convert the Linux users to Samba users and the command completes and says the users have been converted. However, when I then look at the Samba users the list is empty. Restarted the Samba

When using Network neighbourhood, we do see the samba share. When clicking on it, it prompts us for 'Connect as' and 'password'. When entering the unix login and password, it returns an error message ' \\SambaServer\\share is not accessible; the account is not authorized to login from this station'. I have atached the smb.conf file. Thankyou again. Regards Tajinder

Printer not accessible! Plea
Martin, There is a great deal more that needs to be done other then the creation of a smb.conf file for setting up a PDC for any Windows workstations. Unfortunately, I only have experience with setting up a PDC for a mixed bag of Windows 9x, Windows NT 4.0 and Win2K systems. The only WinXP machine we utilize is one laptop, which is rarely ever attached to the corporate network. So,

Changing SWAT user?
I just loaded Mandrake 7.1 and Samba with Webmin. I can get into Webmin and make changes to the Samba server, but I'm not able to get smbd or nmbd running. When I try to get into SWAT to make changes it keeps reverting back to my login which does not allow me to make changes. Is there a way to reset this? Also, any ideas on why smdb and smdb is not running? (go easy on me. I'm new to

Printer fiasco...
OK, First, thanks for all of the help recently. I appreciate it. But...I have just implemented the cvs code as to be able to use the 'use client driver' option because win nt/2k machines have been seeing an 'Access denied, unable to connect' error for the print queues and this will apparently fix this. I will describe my setup and what I have done thus far: RH 7.1 Samba 2_2 cvs

Samba Web Administration Tool (SWAT)
