Samba 3 Upgrade Questions
Hi all, Samba 2.2.8a is currently running on Solaris 8 as a member of a domain. For testing purposes I have installed Samba 3.0.10 on a test server (Solaris 9) a a member of a Workgroup. In a couple of weeks we will be upgrading our production server to Solaris 9 and are planning on doing a fresh install of Samba 3.0.10 at the same time. I will be saving the following files to be restored after

samba & ACL questions
Greetings, I seem to have Samba+AD+ACL's working on a RH ES4 server; however, I'm looking for clarification in regard to how the ACL's differ between windows and samba... or if they differ? With windows ACL's, I can give out user permission traverse directory, but not read its contents. Then I can give said user more permission to a sub folders contents. Meaning: I

Rbind-ing a list into one item
Hi, I am doing the following: 1. I have a list of files.. Files1=list.files("some directory",pattern="some pattern") 2. I define a list as res=vector("list", length(files1)) 3. I read all the files into this list: res=lapply(files1, read.csv) I now want to rowbind all the items in the list into one big mass (all files have same number of columns). I tried

samba file server - sediskoperatorprivilege not being honored
Hello, I've been setting up new file server using samba 4.8.3 (centos 7 RPM), as samba 4 AD member server using my earlier smb.conf when I realised that I was  previously somewhat circumventing the SeDiskOperatorPrivilege by using "admin users map" to SAMDOM\Domain admins" parameter in smb.conf. I decided to change my smb.conf and setup shares following samba wiki. All

Unable to login using 3.0.2a-SuSE as PDC and WinXP
Hello, I've got a strange problem here: I installed Samba 3.0.2a using the official rpms on a SuSE 9.0 machine. I configured samba in the smb.conf as a PDC and created user and machine accounts on the system as well as in the smbpasswd. Afterwards I was able to join the domain with my Windows XP client. After a reboot I am unable to log on to the Domain on my WinXP client. There's just the

So I've added the following to the global section: local master = yes os level = 33 domain master = yes preferred master = yes wins support = yes And now I receive the following message:

Upgrading Samba
I am in the process of planning for a samba upgrade. The current version of Samba (2.2.8a) runs on a Sunfire 280R with Solaris 8. The intended new platform is a sunfire V240 with Solaris 9 as the OS. The new version of Samba will be Samba-3.0.10. Please note that the Samba server will be a member of a domain. I've read Samba-3 by Example, Chapter 8 which describes to the process of updating

samba inconsistent printing behavior
Hello all. I've set up a Samba server on a Sun E280 box running Solaris 8. The server is part of a domain. I am having some problems printing. I can setup the printers on the Windows NT workstations using the Add Printer wizard. However, when I try to print I get inconsistent results. After installing the printer the workstation has to be restarted (sometimes more than once) before anything

Cannot rename across bind mounts
Hello, I am having problems with renaming a file if the source or destination path is located on a bind mount. For instance if in the root directory, I have the directories "Files1" and "Files2" where one or both of the directories are created as the result of a bind mount, then when trying to do rename /Files1/a /Files2/b it produces an error saying it "Couldn't

samba file server - sediskoperatorprivilege not being honored
Hello, Since nobody picked this up I will try to answer myself (hopefully correctly). I think I just misread documentation on wiki, but I would really appreciate a clarification. In the wiki it states: "To enable other accounts than the domain administrator to set permissions on Windows, grant |Full control| (|rwx|) to the user or group you granted the |SeDiskOperatorPrivilege|

All printers are configured on the Print-Server with the Windows NT Printer Wizzard: uploading driver for W9x, NT 4.0 and W2k; setting misc. options, like Paper feeder and so on .. . So far so good! Printing: Access denied, unable to connect
I have been having a printing problem recently on a setup that has worked for quite some time. Configs below. The symtoms are slightly different on a W2K and a WinME workstation, but the result is the same; no printed output. However, when I print from the local Unix server or from any other Unix server in the network the output is as expected. The W2K machine reports 'Access denied,

I know in some ways the answer is RTFM, but I'm not even sure which docs to read or where they are. I've posted about my printing problem before (Win2k SP2 won't print to my Linux server printer), and even though I've had some suggestions, nothing has worked (after a solid week of trying combinations in smb.conf, I'm close to having to drop Linux and go to a complete
