Migrating from 2.2.8a to 3.0.5 / Failed to setup RT_SIGNAL_LEASE handler
I'm running Slackware 9.0 with a vanilla Linux kernel 2.4.25. Due to the
announced EOL for 2.2.x, I'm trying to migrate our Samba hosts to version
3.0.5. These Samba hosts serve shares mounted off a seperate NFS
fileserver.
All is going well, except I've started getting the following messages in
the smbd logs:

WINS Question?
I have setup my Samba server as a WINS server using the wins support = yes
parameter.
My remote network can see the Samba server at our head office fine.
I have also setup the WINS setting on my PC (W2K Pro box) to point to the IP
address of my Samba server.
When I do a nmblookup -R -U <IP address of WINS server> <name of my PC> on
my Samba server I get this reponse;

I'm running samba-3.0.2-7.FC1 on a Fedora Core 1 box.
I see this error message in the log file for each user on my network;

get_domain_user_groups: primary gid of user [glen] is not a Domain group !
get_domain_user_groups: You should fix it, NT doesn't like that

Password Question?
I am using Samba 2.2.7 on a RH 7.3 box.
Samba is acting as PDC for 98, 2000, XP clients.
User's passwords are stored in /etc/smbpasswd.
I want to activate password aging so that users are forced to change their
passwords on a regular basis.
Is this possible?

File permission
How are file permissions determined under Samba? If I log onto my Linux
server (terminal session using Putty) and create a file that file is given
the following file permissions (rw- rw- r--). That is correct, because in my
home directory I have a .bashrc file that has a umask command that states
umask 002.
However, when I use Samba to log onto my Linux server and use Word/Excel to
create a file

Offline Files and Synchronizing
I just upgraded to a RH 9 box and now offline files and synchronizing isn't
working on my XP clients.
My XP clients keep getting access denied error messages when their laptops
log onto the network.
Files are copied from the network to the laptops with no error message and
users have no problems viewing their files while disconnected from the
network.
However, if they change files whilst

2.2.8a with kernel-2.4.22 has kernel oplock problems (NOT Failed to setup RT_SIGNAL_LEASE handler)
I have a samba problem on a redhat 9 box that appears to be clearly linked to a new kernel
2.4.22nptl when using "kernel oplocks = yes".
I am trying to install a printer driver on a win98se box that tries loading the driver files from a
share on the 2.2.8a server. The installation fails as win98se cannot read all the files as it would
like to.
I have two things I can do to avoid the

Error Message
I noticed this error message within some of my users log files;
rpc_server/srv_samr_nt.c:_samr_query_aliasmem(2626) _samr_query_aliasmem:
Not yet implemented.
Why does this mean and what do I need to do to stop this error message from
appearing.
BTW, the users all have XP machines.

W2K Domain and Restricted Shares
Okay, we're doing a bit of system revamping at my work since our last
file server crashed and burned in a horrible tragic failure (hard disk
died). Anyways, we've stepped it up a notch with some nice hardware
and the fileserver will be running linux (Redhat 9.0 currently).
Anyways, I'm currently running into an issue. (I'm using samba
2.2.7a-8.9.0 for reference).
Anyways,

Security Parameter Question?
I have a Samba server (version 2.2.8) running as a PDC.
I have just setup another Samba server and don't want to setup a smbpasswd
file on this machine.
I simply want all authentication of usernames/passwords to be done on the
PDC.
Do I use security = server or security = domain?

Samba 3.0b3+CUPS+server drivers
I'm trying to setup a printer using Cups, using cupsaddsmb
It uploads the files ok (smbclient ... -c 'mkdir W32X86;put ...;put ...')
It adds the driver ok (rpcclient -c 'adddriver "Windows NT X86"

(I have verified this worked from server properties in "printers and faxes"
of the linux server: the driver "canon" shows
