Samba problem
Hello,
My only hard drive failed on a private server so I had to replace it and
reinstall Centos 6.5 and Samba.
My smb.conf file is OK according to "testparm".
I configured smb and nmb, with chkconfig, to start when the system boots.
After the system boots if I do "service nmb status" I get the response
"nmbd dead but pid file exists".
I can delete the pid file

Centos6 Migration glitch - Samba
Folks
My experiments have shown that Samba behaves differently in Centos
5.6 and Centos 6 (updated).
In Centos 5,
service smb restart
restarts both smb and nmb.
In Centos 6, however, it restarts only smb.
REMEDY:
a) Make sure that both services running
b) Issue
chkconfig smb on
chkconfig nmb on
IS THIS THE DESIRED BEHAVIOR
I have no idea if this difference is a

AW: Login from win2k client to samba PDC
John,
thanks for that hint. It did not kill the server by you are perfectly right.
I changed this and restarted the "smb" and "nmb" deamons - unfortunately
with the same result.
When I watch e.g. the status with "swat" I see as follows after trying with:
smbclient -U <user> -L win2k1
(what is strange since I connect as different user and not

Running smb without nmb? (Linux Suse 8.1 feature)
I recently upgraded my Linux distro to SuSE 8.1 which
came w/samba 2.2.5.
A feature of the upgrade was that it 'split' the startup
script for samba from 1 script for _smb_ & _nmb_ to 2 scripts.
Now the prologue (used by insserv to create the numbered startup
scripts with dynamic numbering based on dependencies in the prologues
of all the startup scripts for a given run level) says

Roaming Profiles with Samba PDC
I have been working on this problem for quite some time now and have not been able to find the solution.
I have Samba running on Debian Linux 3.0 (Woody) as a primary domain controller. From my Windows 2000 desktop I am able to browse that Linux server with Windows Explorer.
My biggest problem is trying to log in to that domain. Under Windows 2000 I am able to join the domain (sjmlinux) but

Samba doesn't work after upgrading
I just upgraded my system to Fedora Core 7 from Core 6 and I find that
now Samba doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. If I try to
connect from my laptop computer running Windows XP I just get one shared
folder that has only a few subfolders (probably because offline files is
turned on). If I try to connect by using the IP address (\\192.168.0.5)
it tells me that it's not accessible

Samba proposal document.
I have a project due at school and have chosen Samba servers to research.
I am trying to find a source of information that discusses the corporate
advantage to Samba. How much money can a company save in NT server
licensing fees for example. Something that would help me write a fictitious
business proposal. If anyone can quick point me in a direction here I would
appreciate it.

PATCH: OpenSSH RPM spec file problems
Hello all,
There are two issues in OpenSSH RPM Red Hat spec file (against 2.2.0p1):
1. /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd uses 'success' and 'failure'. These don't work
in Red Hat 5.2; else the spec file is fine. Initscripts requirement (for
the one in RH60) added.
2. If you're upgrading over SSH ltd's ssh-server, the server will be
stopped and sshd removed from chkconfig

Joining Linux to Windows 2000 domain
Hello, I am new to Linux, Samba, and actually servers in general. I am
attempting to set up a Linux file server and join it to a Windows 2000
domain. All I want to be able to do is get files from the linux file server
and put files on it. I do not want it to be the domain controller.
I join the domain using: net join -S 10.10.10.40 -UAdministrator%password

configuring samba for virtualbox guest os host only network
Dear samba users:
I am new on this list and know samba at a very basic level.
I use openSUSE 42.2 Leap with its default samba 4.4.2 version.
This is what I would like to achieve:
I have a guest windows OS in virtualbox 5.1. Occasionally
I have to print documents from this guest OS using my printer
configured in openSUSE. I would like to use samba to share my
printer between the linux host and

PATCH: make contrib/redhat/sshd.init work with older RH releases
Damien--
Attached is a patch to contrib/redhat/sshd.init which eliminates the
dependency on the success() and failure() functions from
initscripts>=4.16. This allows sshd.init to be used for both early and
recent releases of Red Hat Linux (i've confirmed it works on both 4.2
and 5.2 as well as 6.2).
The patch also removes the 'Requires: initscripts >= 4.16' line from

Problem Restarting Samba3
I have Samba 3.0.0 installed on Mandrake 9.2. I also have Samba 2.8.8a
installed per instructions from Mandrake -- but I do NOT start Samba 2.8.8a
automatically. In fact, I don't use it at all. Maybe I should uninstall the Samba
2.8.8a rpm??? I will update to 3.0.1 as soon as an rpm is available from Mandrake.
Anyway, I have a problem when I try to add a new share to my smb.conf file. I
