Procedure for installing Windows drivers on Samba with CUPS
Hi all, This isn't a plea for help, but rather I have just been through the procedure for installing Windows drivers on a Samba machine using CUPS, and I thought I'd post my notes in case it helps someone one day as the documentation doesn't focus too strongly on my particular set up (it focuses on using Windows drivers without CUPS, or PostScript drivers with CUPS, but

cups related error messages
I'm using Samba 3.0.7 with the printername_and_queue_update.patch (http://samba.org/~jerry/patches/post-3.0.7) from Jerry and cups as the print spooler. For every printer, where the samba printername and the cups printer name differs, i get errormessages like the following: [2004/10/25 16:30:00, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_queue_get(900) Unable to get jobs for

Hi Everyone, Having problem wuth truncated print jobs, I'm looking for help: - New server with Samba 4.4.3 compiled from source, Linux Centos 7.2 x86_64; - with patched source3/smbd/reply.c to avoid truncated smbd replies to old clients, as provided by Jeremy here: http://samba-technical.samba.narkive.com/g3YL4vmY/dos-clients-slow-on-samba-4-1-7-bug-10422 (works perfect, thanks!) - Several

Samba & CUPS: only banner-page gets printed
In my setup I'm running Samba 3.0.23d-19.2 and CUPS 1.2.7-12.1. Printing from a windows-client works fine, until I instruct CUPS to add a banner-page. The banner-page then is the only thing that gets printed. Doing the same from Linux everything works fine. I get my job including a banner-page. The Windows-printjob is passed raw from Samba to CUPS... Anyone has an idea? Best, Johannes

cups, firefox + acrobat (Getting PJL output)
Hello, I am having a problem when printing pdf files as viewed from firefox/acroread to a samba print share. When I print from firefox, I get PJL output. If I print the very same file directly from Acrobat, the file prints properly. Standard web pages print from firfox just fine. #Sample output -12345X@PJL COMMENT MS PCLXL NT DRIVER @PJl JOB NAME ... cups causing segfault
Everyone, I have a new installation of Centos 5.1 that I am using on a gateway server that also has dhcp, named servers. I also have cups set up to function as a print server, and sendmail is being used as a relay to our mail server. yum-cron appears to be updating everything daily as desired. This Centos 5.1 gateway was created to replace a Fedora Core 5 system with the same functions. When

Samba vs IPP printing
Not including cases of unsupported clients for IPP printing (such as Windows NT) are there any reasons/caveats for installations running CUPS to not move over to IPP printing? Are there any features or benefits to Windows/Samba printing for Windows clients that make it superior compared to IPP?

Cups issue - keeps re-writing cupsd.conf and mime.types
Hi, My Centos 4.4 server at home is serving a Samsung SCX-4521F printer, which the *nix and Win clients connect to through ipp. Every so often (maybe once a month), the cupsd.conf and mime.types files are updated, which makes the printer unavailable to the clients. My fix so far has been to stop cups, overwrite the files with cupsd.conf.working and mime.types.working (these are backup files of the

Configuring printers in CentOS 5
Could someone please explain to me how to best configure printers in CentOS 5? I've been trying to configure a new printer, which is served by a Mac Mini: If I open a web browser at localhost:631, or "system-configure-printers" and I configure the new printer as an IPP printer, it winds up in a list of "Remote printers", and once it winds up there I can't seem to

Samba + cups = raw postscript output
Hi, I think this is a samba problem but I'm not 100% sure :) When I am printing with the Cups 6 driver from windows to samba, to cups to my printer, only the postscript commands are coming out, raw. The cups log file says it's seeing application/vnd.cups-raw, and I had a look at a tcp dump of packets going to port 631, and indeed they do confirm that the IPP port is being told this. So,

CUPS: Report errors and problems back to Windows clients
Hi there, my CUPS server runs fine, I can print from within Windows and Linux. However, if I stop the printer in CUPS or some other error occurs, Windows clients never get notified, neither via IPP nor via SMB printing. Windows always sends out the print job, the user thinks the job has been print, although some problem might have happened on the CUPS server. Is it possible to report errors and

Equivalent of win.print for Linux
Hi! In Windows the "win.print" function allows plotting directly to a printer (or copying an open device to the printer). This is very convenient to quickly print a plot once it looks good. Is there an equivalent function under Linux? For example through CUPS, IPP, LPD or other ? Obviously with a printer on the parallel port one could write postscript("/dev/lp0") but what

Hello, There is a printer at work (a Xerox WorkCentre 5325). I am able to print using the following command: smbclient //MyHiddenPC/MyHiddenShare -WMyHiddenDomain -c 'print my-hidden-file.pdf'. However, it does not work when I try to print through CUPS using the following command: lp my-hidden-file.pdf. In the CUPS error_log file, the only error I can read is: [Job 5] PID 27883

Samba/Cups Newbie question...
Hi, I think that this is more a Samba query than a Cups one, as far as I can tell from the documentation anyway... I am running samba-2.2.5-1 and cups-1.1.16, I have these installed and working correctly... I have 50+ PC's (mixture of WinNT, Win2k, WinXP and Win9x/ME) printing to 6 queues on the server, 5 of these are RAW queues printing via lpd and ipp, and the other is a socket

Setup Windows XP to print to CUPS printer on FC5
I am quite sure this question has been asked before but I can't find anything in the archive and Google does not turn up anything useful. I have Fedora Core 5 with an HP LaserJet 5L printer connected to the LPT port. I also have the CUPS printer queue shared. I am trying to setup up a Windows XP laptop with wlan on my home network to be able to print to that printer. I have little
