I have got it. It works now. The problem actually lies with the passwd

Samba Sharing Permission Denied
Bula Samba
I'm having difficulty in sharing files of my Mandrake 9.1 webserver thru
Samba. I am able to see the files thru a W2K client, however upon browsing
the error message reads:
"the network name cannot be found". A check in the /var/log/syslog reports:
"smbd/service.c:make_connection(599) jim-2k (10.0.0.126) Can't change

Is Samba 3 stable for Mandrake 9.2?
Not to be the annoying child, but I have found myself uniquely annoyed
that I can't update RPMs that include Samba 3, and I'm not certain if
that's because it's even ready for Mandrake 9.2. Does anyone have a
bead on this? Should I just go back to 2.2.8 and wait for the stable,
or can someone point out a URL that has a stable 3.0 on it?
Thanks

[PATCH]: Cygwin: Changes to cygwin contrib area
Hi,
the following patch changes two files in the contrib/cygwin subdir:
It changes the Cygwin specific README file which adds some hints
related to the new feature to switch user context without password
(which means using public key and/or rhosts authentication). Some
old stuff is erased.
The changes to ssh-host-config are intended to allow an easier
startup for users which are new to Cygwin

Word 2000 on Wine
I keep hearing that Ian Schmidt figured out how to get Word 2000 to work
under Wine. Well, his domain comes up unknown and all references I have
seen on this subject hyperlink to his defunct URL.
Has anyone out there got Word 2000 installed on W2K to work under wine?
I'm using FreeBSD Codeweaver port but any success from anyone be it Red
Hat, Mandrake, etc would be appreciated.

Authenticating from Windows domains via winbind the easy way
Sorry if this sounds like an advertisement, but in the past 6 weeks or so
there have probably been close on 100 questions on getting Winbind
working.
For those of you who are new to linux/samba, you may want to consider
using Mandrake 9.0 for your first implementation, since *everything* (ok,
there is one bug which I will mention) is taken care of for you.
When installed in expert mode, you

files between w2k domains...
Hi,
I have a Mandrake 8.2 server with samba 2.2.5 installed.
My server has ftp and the files some users upload I move them to another
structure, this structure is shared via Samba with other users. I am in a
W2k Domain.(We are in the process to migrate to linux).
So, I have some users that move the files uploaded to their servers.
A few days ago, a user reported me he couldn?t see the files in

Packages of beta3 for Mandrake Linux (8.1 through 9.1)
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I have built RPMs of samba3.0.0beta3, which are parallel-installable
with samba-2.2.x (for easy testing, though you can change that by
rebuilding the srpm with other options) for Mandrake 8.1 through 9.1,
which are available on my site. I hope to get these up on the samba ftp
servers soon, but if you desperatly need packages, grab them from the

users migration from Linux to W2K
Hi All,
We are migrating users from Linux (Mandrake 9.0) and Novel NetWare 6.0 to
Windows 2000 Active Directory. We have migrated successfully user from Novel
Netware to Windows 2000 but facing problem in Linux Users. Do you know any
utility which can help us out? So, we can move users IDs and password to
Windows 2000 active Directory instead of manually creating more 900 users in
W2K AD.
Thanks

two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all,
I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with
Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached
via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port,
the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on
win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both
printers are

help with a W2K VPN client 619 error and PPTP server
I''ve got what I think is a fairly simple home network configuration with one
Linux box functioning as the firewall, VPN server, DHCP server and
file/print server. I am having trouble configuring both a VPN server
(PopTop) and the firewall rules for a W2K PPTP VPN client. The VPN server
runs on the firewall machine and the VPN client runs on a W2K machine behind
the firewall. The VPN

Samba3 parallel installable RPMs for Mandrake 9.0
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I have been updating the packaging for Mandrake in HEAD, which means it
is now possible to build RPMs of HEAD which are parallel installable
with Mandrake RPMs of 2.2.x. Of course, you can only run one version of
samba on a given interface.
To do this, update to HEAD cvs if your snapshot is older than late
yesterday. then:
$ cd packaging/Mandrake

Could this be a rights issue?
I'm pretty new to Samba, so I appologise if this is a really dumb
question, but I can't find a way through it.
I have created a samba share on my Linux box for the users home
directory, and can map a drive to the share from W2K clients and
see/open all the files, the problems arise when I try and edit or create
files, from the W2k client.
If I attempt to create a file through windows
