3.0 beta 3 - NT and Unix group mapping
Hello everyone!
I've been testing the 3.0 beta 3 (I've just upgraded from 2.2.7), and made a
PDC configuration with Windows XP Pro clients. Everything works fine,
however, I'm fine tuning the NT and Unix group mapping; in particular, I
want to map the Unix group 'users' to the NT group 'Power Users'.
I've tried:
net groupmap modify ntgroup="Power Users"

Samba 3.0b3 PDC - XP user descriptions
Hi all. I have (another) little question about XP and Samba 3.0b3 acting as
PDC.
When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL in my XP Client I see the message:
",,, has started session as BOOGERSOFT\Boogerman"
(BOOGERSOFT is my domain, and Boogerman is my username).
I also see the ",,," in the top of XP's start menu (when using XP's
startmenu instead of the "classic" start

Printing via smbclient to Windows BJC-2100 printer
I've seen variations on this problem in the past but they haven't seemed
to help much in this instance. I have Samba running on a
NetBSD(sparc) and would like to set it up to print to a Canon BJC-2100
running on a networked Windows ME machine. (My sparc box lacks a
'standard' parallel interface and I lack an adapter). I can print just
fine to the printer from a second Windows

Migrating from 2.2.8a to 3.0.5 / Failed to setup RT_SIGNAL_LEASE handler
I'm running Slackware 9.0 with a vanilla Linux kernel 2.4.25. Due to the
announced EOL for 2.2.x, I'm trying to migrate our Samba hosts to version
3.0.5. These Samba hosts serve shares mounted off a seperate NFS
fileserver.
All is going well, except I've started getting the following messages in
the smbd logs:

samba, ncurses, and sysV printing?
Dear SAMBA Group,
I've playing around with getting SAMBA to do things for me.
I have an Ultra-1 running Solaris 2.6 and a Win-XP system with
a Canon BJC-2000 printer attached to it.
I'm trying to get the SUN to print to the printer on the XP box.
I have followed various instructions but now when I print as "root"
with "lp -d bjc <file>" I get an email message

Fw: Samba and Windows XP, 30 second lockup
Hi again,
I posted this message some time ago in the list, however nobody replied yet.
I find this kinda weird because the problem happens with both my XP
computers, so I am pretty sure there must be at least a couple of guys out
there with the same problem... Basically the problem is that when using
Samba shares from XP from time to time I experience a ~30 second lockup of
the shares. This

2.2.8a with kernel-2.4.22 has kernel oplock problems (NOT Failed to setup RT_SIGNAL_LEASE handler)
I have a samba problem on a redhat 9 box that appears to be clearly linked to a new kernel
2.4.22nptl when using "kernel oplocks = yes".
I am trying to install a printer driver on a win98se box that tries loading the driver files from a
share on the 2.2.8a server. The installation fails as win98se cannot read all the files as it would
like to.
I have two things I can do to avoid the

Problem with RH 9 and Samba version 2.2.7a-8.9.0
I'm upgrading to a RH 9 box and using the version of Samba that comes with

BJC-2100 printer not printing correctly
First, thanks for the great work done on Centos 4.1. Recently installed
on two systems that previously were running Windows 98 and Windows ME.
(The user of the Windows ME system has no problems so far.)
I was very surprised when Centos 4.1 recognized and automatically
configured the BJC-2100 printer connected to the USB port during
install.
The only problem encountered so far is poor

Difficulty with Samba 2.2.8 and native CUPS PS drivers
I've recently attempted to convert from the Adobe PostScript drivers for my
Canon BJC=2110 printer over to the native CUPS Windows PS drivers and can't
quite get things to work correctly. After deleting the printer on my
WinXP SP1 clients, verifying under "Server Properties" that the Adobe driver
was removed, then reconnecting to my Samba printer, I connect fine but receive

Unable to access shares on a Linux Samba server
Hello everyone,
I did alot of searching before I came to post here, but have failed to
come up with a reason why this isn't working. I may just be missing a
major step. First, let me get the formailities out of the way.

W2K Domain and Restricted Shares
Okay, we're doing a bit of system revamping at my work since our last
file server crashed and burned in a horrible tragic failure (hard disk
died). Anyways, we've stepped it up a notch with some nice hardware
and the fileserver will be running linux (Redhat 9.0 currently).
Anyways, I'm currently running into an issue. (I'm using samba
2.2.7a-8.9.0 for reference).
Anyways,

RT_SIGNAL_* issue - samba 3.0.9
This is part of the log and strace output from samba 3.0.9 running on kernel 2.4.27.
The output from samba 3.0.8 on kernel 2.6.9 looked somewhat similar...
I haven't seen much on the list or ancilliary documentation recently, other than
"it is fixed for samba > 3.0"... Could someone please shed some light on this?

Switched back to 3.0.21c. Ouch, access to shares is not granted anymore :(

Delay opening Word, Excel files
Hello,
I am running samba 2.2.7a on Red Hat 9. The clients are running Win2k with
SP3 and Office XP with SP2. The Samba server authenticates with a WinNT 4
domain controller.
When the users open a Word or Excel document there is a 30sec delay before
the file opens. From info gleaned from searches on this subject I have tried
turning oplocks off altogether, which resulted in Word and Excel

trouble adding share with restrictions
I am printing from linux to a printer attached to a win98 computer. I
send a text file directly to the printer such as 'lpr -P BJC
<file.txt>', the printer prints all the text as it should then fails to
eject the last page and then goes off line. When I push the online button,
it ejects the page and then is ready again. I am using a Cannon
BJC4304. This printer supposedly can
