Ldap & socket error messages
Hello,
I run a samba (v3.0.10) PDC and openLdap server on the same machine.
They work fine, except sometimes the smb server cannot contact the ldap
server.
From a windows client, it looks like the server
gets stuck, and it takes a few minutes before the shares
are available again.
In the /var/log/messages file, i get these error messages :

cophenetic matrix
Hello,
I analyse some free-sorting data so I use hierarchical
clustering.
I want to compare my proximity matrix with the tree
representation to evalute the fitting. (stress, cophenetic correlation
(pearson's correlation)...)
"The cophenetic similarity of two objects a and b is defined as the
similarity level at wich objects a and b become members of the same
cluster during the course of

Access denied to samba server from win7 64bit behind a VPN
Hi,
I have a problem of Access denied to samba server from win7 64bit behind
a VPN.
the samba server is 3.2.5-4 release on a debian lenny (I will upgrade it
soon), member of a win2K AD domain.
the win7 PCs are on the same AD domain, they can access to an other
samba server witch is very similar (same release, same smb.conf, same
VPN config).
If I do on a win7 PC: net view \\srvlinux
I see:

Semaphore Timeout on from Win2K to Samba
I have been using Samba w/out any problems what so ever for the longest time,
but today, I cannot connect to the linux box (shows up in network neighborhood
as 'LINUXSERVER'), but when I try to connect from a win2K machine (which
normally connects w/NO problems). Here is the output from /var/log/messages
(appears the problem is in smbd)

The smbd ran away with the spoon...
It seems that my smbd process got fuxed somehow. It appears to have
take up all the file handles, and there were over 130 smbd processes
running on the system. I'm not entirely sure what happened. My first
thought is that something bad happened between the server and the
Windows client that's running Kaza (with a couple hundred mid-download
files) and it just spiraled out of control,

Samba security hole as the workstation hangs
Hi,
I probably found a minor security hole (as it may be IMHO) in my (latest) stable release of SAMBA (2.2.9a-1)
Using Win98SE I am logging to Samba server. I am using root preexec and root postexec on Home share's to maintain a list of "correctly logged" users.
When a Windows workstation craches, Samba finds this after some 5 long minutes. Until that time, although a new user logs

Server Maps by IP but not by Name for Domain Users
Hey all,
I've got an issue with my Samba server. I can't seem to get file shares
to map using Server Name, but I can get them to map using IP Address.
Here is my smb.conf:

dos filetimes = yes
dos filemode = yes

Samba LDAP - bug in ldapsync.pl
In the course of correcting directory references for Mandrake in
smbldap-tools I came acrossed the following:
samba-2.2.7a/examples/LDAP/ldapsync.pl
on line 72 we have:
> $ntpwd = `/usr/local/sbin/smbencrypt '$oldpass'`;
On Mandrake this would be:
> $ntpwd = `/usr/sbin/smbencrypt '$oldpass'`;
Except that I can't find anything by that name (i.e.

Samba 3.0 ACL, Windows Credentials
This is probably a hot topic, and if this has been beaten to the ground,
forgive me.
I'm not a regular part of the Samba community.
Although I have been using Samba for years, I now have to use it in a
corporate environment utilizing some of it's more modern features.
Let me just say, that it's been several hours of testing/troubleshooting to
get where I am now.
(And I don't

LDAP server, too many open files
I've setup an LDAP server with a slave server on Centos 5.3 X86_64,
replication works, most of the time client logins work fine but I'm
starting to get a error I can't seem to eliminate, it's starting to
cause login failures for users and I think it's causing other
application failures when they try to auth against ldap.
on the client side /var/log/messages shows

Client Disconnects
Hi,
I'm running samba 2.2.7 on redhat advanced server with approximately 40
win2k clients and having a serious problem with the clients.
Intermittently the clients will lose their connection to the server for
approximately 30 seconds. It's like the socket connection is being reset or
something.
Here's a sample output from a client log file:

Samba LDAP PDC change password
Hi all,
I'm running Samba 2.2.7a on RedHat8.0 with LDAP (latest RPM from redhat)
Well I configured samba to act as a PDC with LDAP following IDEALX
recommandations.
Everything works fine BUT the password change, I cannot change the passwords
from the Win2000 or WinXP WS, it always says that the password or username
doesn't match ....
Of course it matches, I tried too many things to
