Marginal write performance & pauses in outgoing transfers - Possible bug
Hello everybody, I have a FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE server running Samba 2.2.8a and a workstation running Windows 2000 SP4. Whereas FTP transfers between these boxes average 700 KB/s (10 mbps LAN) in both directions, Samba transfers are exhibiting this odd behavior: Windows 2000 --> Samba = 700 KB/s (perfect) Samba --> Windows 2000 = 100 KB/s (terrible, inconsistent, with LONG pauses) Trust me,

drive mapping's connection problems
Hi My company network is built from a series of Solaris machines running samba (2.2.x) and windows 2000 clients. The domain controller is samba 2.2.8a. When someone logs on the login script maps a few shares to drive letters. Recently the drive mappings started getting disconnected and when pressed they print out the error: "An error occurred while reconnecting to [Drive Letter]: to

getting rid of NetBIOS
Is it possible to run a samba server strictly over TCP/IP? (i.e. without NetBIOS) -- I can turn off NetBIOS on win2k but I only see the win2k computers which are sharing drives now -- no samba servers. I'd like to see if this improves my performance since NetBIOS seems stuck with small (1 ethernet frame, no fragmentation) packets. Regards, Andrew

Re: process for petitioning for more flac hardware support

For example the amount of buffering required in the decoder. If I understand the flac format correctly, all decoders must support block sizes upto 65535 samples (ie 256k of decoded stereo

Re: Win XP 'Network path was not found' Error when connecting to Samba s
Sorry, for the resend, but I found out another piece of information that may be helpful. I did a Ethereal check and then tried accessing the Samba Serve from my XP box. The Linux box got 3 NBNS Name queries on the Share Sambaserve and the response from the linux box was a ICMP saying Destination unreachable. Then 3 more NBNS broadcasts for the name query which Linux did not respond to. Thank

session request to *SMBSERVER failed
I am having a problem with samba on a Sun Ultra running Solaris 2.6. I got the error: -- session request to WWW20 failed session request to *SMBSERVER failed -- This happened after a reboot, samba was running perfect before. The smb.conf is fine, it was tested on another server and worked. Netstat -a shows that it is listening on port 139. Any ideas? Thanks. ## ignore the Lycos

running echo %userprofile% from a windows command prompt will tell you exactly where your user profile is located. running set will give you all your environment settings. [BUG] Problem with Case Sensitivity for Usernames between a Samba PDC & Windows
- Compiled Samba version 2.2.4 - Slackware Linux, Kernel 2.4.17 - Windows 2000 Professional, SP2 Here's what I know: You have username MyNetworkUsername (exactly with case) in /etc/samba/smbpasswd and /etc/passwd. You have Samba running as a PDC, with unix password sync enabled. Password Sync options at default for the most part (passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u). In W2K, you
