Broken pipe error when attaching samba 2.2.8a to NT4 pdc
Morning folks, Need some Help. I have a Solaris 2.5.1 system that runs Samba as simple shares but I want to attach it to an NT4 domain and use Winbind for NT authentication. But I get a broken pipe error when I run " smbpasswd -j thinktank -r testerpdc -U tester -D4". With the debug level set to 4 everything looks good until it connects to the pdc on port 445 then i get the broken

winbind on Solaris 2.5.1 not working.
Ok folks, Here is the deal. I have posted to the news groups several times and gotten not a single thing. I have been trying since march to get 2.2.8a working on sol2.5.1 with winbind to do the authentication but it has failed miserably. Winbindd starts but fails to create the /tmp/.winbindd/pipe file and bombs like a daisycutter. But if I run winbindd like this " truss -aefo /tmp/file

2 issues using SAMBA as a print server
I am using SAMBA/Lprng to do printer accounting for charge-back. There are two technical issues I have not been able to resolve. 1. When attempting to connect to the printer from a Windows box in the domain (the SAMBA server is simply a server that's a member of the domain, it is not the PDC) I get the message that the server does not have the appropriate driver and then it pops up a setup

Can't mount Samba share on Linux box, Windows clients
When I encountered weird messages when trying to mount Samba shares on a Linux box the solution was to make sure I had the location of smbmount and smbmnt in my path. On RedHat 6.2 the path is /usr/sbin. I have not seen your exact error before though. Hope that helps. This is a sad day for interoperability in the Web
Today, Adobe Systems Incorporated announced[1] that they will extend their Flash platform to support the proprietary H.264 and HE-AAC formats. The Xiph.Org Foundation has previously contacted Adobe to consider extending Flash to support the Open Media formats Vorbis, Theora, and Speex. Adobe developers replied by stating it would be unwise as it would increase the file size of the Flash Player,

FireFox builds with support for OGG Theora / SVG+Video
Although this is old news actually, for those who are interested there are precompiled builds of FireFox 3 with support for streaming OGG Theora in SVG SMIL. Good news for those who just want to see it work without having to patch and compile from GIT. http://www.double.co.nz/video_test/ And for those who just want to see it work without downloading anything:

W3C Video on the Web Workshop
List, The W3C will host a workshop to discuss video on the Web in 12-13 December 2007, San Jose, California. I think it's important that someone from Xiph, or an enthusiastic fan of Theora would participate. There is no participation fee and you do not need to be a W3C member to participate, so if you are in the area why not consider going? You only have to register to participate. All

Ogg/Icecast vs. Real
After reading through an older thread on this list (streaming ogg audio), I was wondering if would be possible in the future to use OggVorbis and Icecast as a replacement for RealAudio and RealServer. By this I'm not talking about simple live http/tcp streaming, but on-demand rtsp/udp streaming where a user could open a player and instantly jump to a location in a file, or click a link in a

Hacking up streaming - we want to
Hi, We would like to stream some of our content as OGG Vorbis. We've currently managed to hack liveice and icecast to stream over HTTP and play that with ogg123. But from reading the dev list, I see that's also been done here, probably in a more elegant way - can anyone point me at the right place to see the current state of this? For now we'll probably just be doing this

ogg123 --end 1:59 patch.ogg
Hi Here is another patch regarding time in ogg123 which is more controvercial than the other one I send some days ago. (see attachment) When working with Daisy/SMIL [1] files it would be helpfull if the user could stop play at a specific time. Currently .ogg files are not allowed in the Daisy format but that will hopefully happen one day if I work hard at it. A clip in a Daisy file could look

How to use Speex Cross-Browser, Cross-Platform on Web Pages
Thanks for the two suggestions. I tried VLC, and that did help with Firefox support. Unfortunately, VLC registers itself as a player only for the "application/ogg" type, not for "audio/x-speex". If I change my object code to request an application/ogg MIME type, it plays. I wish that it also showed player controls like QuickTime and other players do, but I am not complaining!

Stallman @ NYU
I did manage to dv-tape this from the front row, and thus got pretty fair audio, but a slightly awkward camera angle. NYU Media Lab had a tripod set up at the back, and were apparently intending to webcast the results via real. They were a little taken aback when I mentioned Richard's aversion to propietary formats, and thanked me profusely for pointing it out, and saving them grief.

Integrating Swfdec and GStreamer
Hi, I've recently been looking at integrating Swfdec and GStreamer. There are some issues I'd like advice on. In order of importance for me: 1) Using GStreamer codecs Swfdec currently has a simple API for decoding data that looks like GstBuffer *decode_next_buffer (Decoder *dec, GstBuffer *input); [1] Which is used to decode video (VP6 and Sorensen Squeeze/H263 to RGBA) and audio
