BIG delete list makes for BIGGER RAM requirements
So I'm doing daily backups with rsync, and weekly, I run it with --delete after archiving the whole thing (this way I don't lose any deleted files). All week long this runs fine, but when I add --delete, rsync runs for a few hours then aborts because the box runs out of memory. PDC upgraded from 2.2.7 to 3.0.0beta1, now XP clients can't logon
After upgrading the PDC from 2.2.7 to 3.0.0beta1, W2K clients still work but the XP ones cannot log on to the domain any more. The client pops up a message "The procedure is out of range", and smbd logs [2003/06/19 18:21:22, 0] ../rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:(1339) Invalid auth info 68 or level 5 on schannel [2003/06/19 18:21:22, 0] ../rpc_server/srv_pipe_hnd.c:(605) process_request_pdu:

Root user problems with Samba 3.0.0beta1
Hello Anytime I try to do anything with the root user (like join the domain) or run 'net user' or 'net group' with root, when I enter the correct password, I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL .... I've been trying more commands, and if I run tdbedit -e=tdbsam (to export the smbpasswd to tdbsam style), I get this error : tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [root]

Some rough edges with Samba-3.0.0beta1
Hi, I am testing Samba-3.0.0.beta1, which we will use to migrate our Win2000 domain ( at last ;) ) * things done: - Configured LDAP + permissions - Configured Samba. pdbedit -a already creates users in LDAP ( objectclass: account; objectclass: sambaSamAccount ) * observed problems: ( might be due to some error on my part, please explain in that case ) idmap backend =

Samba 3.0.0beta1 problems when using 'unix password sync'
Hi, I've been playing with the above release package, and everything works great. Domain logons with WinXP / Win95, file shares between WinXP / Win95 / Linux. That said, I cannot seem to get the above version of the software to play nice with the 'unix password sync' directive. Trying to modify the Windows Networking password would usually return 'Incorrect password'. I get

Samba 3.0.0beta1, NT4 Joining a Domain Problems
Hi, I'm trying to test Samba 3.0.0 beta 1, and so far, one problem I have spent the last couple hours trying to solve, is a problem I am having joining the domain with an NT4 workstation. The samba server is a PDC, and when I try to join the workstation to the samba controlled domain using the root account (which worked on Samba 2.2.8 just fine), I get a message on the NT workstation that it

rsync 2.6.0 causing incredible load on Linux 2.4.x?
Hi everyone. Has anyone experienced rsync 2.6.0 causing huge amounts of system load? Especially on Linux 2.4? We recently upgraded our "push" machine to rsync 2.6.0 and the next push that went out (rsyncing about 3GB of data to 15 servers sequentially over gigabit ethernet) caused the box to hit 110.59. We only know the load because snmpd was still working, but nothing else in userspace

OpenSSH 2.1.1p3 problem on Debian 2.2
Hello, because it doesn't seem as if the upstream tracks OpenSSH close enough I tried to compile from source. It fails on ./configure with the claim that it could not find the OpenSSL installation. But getting the test program right together with an empty main(), I can compile that by hand, resulting in: $ ldd conftest libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x4001a000)

Long time needed for "Building file list" Any suggestions ?
We're running rsync 2.5.7 on a Windows2000 server, in combination with cygwin/ssh. The server who receives the data is a Linux server. The amount of data from the Windows server is about 100 Gb. Represented by 532.000 files of different nature. Mostly doc, ppt and xls files. It takes about 2 hours to create only the file list. Is the amount of data/files to big, should I segmentate the

tail -f and periodically call remote
Is there some way to tail -f a file and print whatever tail -f gets to the browser on the client side. I''m thinking periodically call remote can do it. Is there some shortcut method, or does one have to store the cursor line that they read up to from the file last time, and then start reading again from the new cursor on the next periodically call remote. thanks -- Posted via

Periodically Call Remote Condition
Hi guys, I''ve been reading through the forums and came across a response for adding :with condition to a periodically call remote. I tried it out and couldn''t make it work. Would anyone have a sample of how to use this conditional structure with periodically call remote? If not, does anyone have any idea how to add a condition to a periodically call remote? What I need is to

Nightly housekeeping/Logwatch periodically not running
I've noticed something strange with a 3.4 test box that is basically just sitting here in the lab. I've got it configured to forward me the Logwatch run (which seems to go off at 4:02am by default). Every couple of days, that logwatch run goes missing. I haven't really dug down to find out if the cron job is crapping out or if postfix is dropping the report on the floor. Is

Dovecot Periodically Stops Authenticating Users
Hi, It seems that my dovecot installation periodically stops authenticating users. Restarting dovecot resolves the issue temporarily. I'm authenticating via PAM to OpenLDAP on a CentOS 4 box. I've seen several related posts about this issue but no resolution. My logs show: Sep 15 03:58:24 server01 dovecot: imap-login: Can't connect to auth server at default: Resource

webrick periodically just dies
I put up a demo of a new open source webapp this evening and posted about it to a coupel of lists. I''m getting a bit of traffic to the application but not that much, and webrick keeps dying off. No error messages, no core dumps, nothing. The only thing I can think of is that I had it bound to 0.0.0.0 <http://0.0.0.0>. It''s been about 15 minutes since I changed it to a

Terminal periodically hangs
Ssh connects and authenticates correctly, but sessions periodically hang for minutes at a time. This behaviour also occurs when sftp is used to transfer files - the connection will periodically hang, and then resume transfer. No problem piping rsync over ssh, though (rsync -e ssh ack ugh:/home/foo/ack). Both ssh and sftp problem occur when server is accessed over internal LAN or external
