Word open all DOC files read-only on Samba shares
Hello all, I just switched my old server to a new machine, upgrading the Samba server from 3.0.1 to 3.4.5 (-55.fc12). When Word (Office2003) tries to open a *.DOC file, it takes a very long time (about 10 seconds) then the file is opened Read-Only... If I try to open a *.RTF file it opens very fast, and I can write it... I'm scratching my head for the whole day and what I've

Apply functions along "layers" of a data matrix
Hello How can I apply functions along "layers" of a data matrix? Example: daf <- data.frame( 'id' = rep(1:5, 3), matrix(1:60, nrow=15, dimnames=list( NULL, paste('v', 1:4, sep='') )), rep = rep(1:3, each=5) ) The data frame "daf" contains 3 repetitions/layers (rep) of 4 variables of 5 persons (id). For some reason, I want to calculate

Problems with Shapiro Wilk's test of normality.
Hi, I am trying to create a table with information from Shapiro Wilk's test of normality. However, it fails due to lack of sample size, it says, but the way I see it, this is not a problem. (See the table of sample sizes (almost) at the bottom). Applying a different function using a similar ftable call is not a problem (See the bottom table). This is R 2.1.0 on Linux (Gentoo). /Fredrik

EXT3 with 2.2.20 - Is it stable enough for a production server th at is used 24X7?
Hello All, I have a production server that is running 2.2.20. This server *has* to be up 24X7 - what I'm wondering is: 1) Is ext3 on 2.2.20 rock stable? Or, would you recommend that I just stay with ext2? 2) I have looked far and wide for a the ext3 patch for 2.2.20 - where can I find it? 3) Were are the e2fsprogs that are appropriate to run with the 2.2.X kernel series? Thanks,

benchmark results
I've had the chance to use a testsystem here and couldn't resist running a few benchmark programs on them: bonnie++, tiobench, dbench and a few generic ones (cp/rm/tar/etc...) on ext{234}, btrfs, jfs, ufs, xfs, zfs. All with standard mkfs/mount options and +noatime for all of them. Here are the results, no graphs - sorry: http://nerdbynature.de/benchmarks/v40z/2009-12-22/ Reiserfs

Bug in ext3=journal ?
Hi all! While I was having some fun, testing different filesystems at home and making some benchmarks, I hit a bug when running Postmark in an ext3 partition mounted with data=journal. I repeated this test twice and got the same results under Linux 2.5, also it was not found while mounting with data=writeback or data=ordered or under Linux 2.4. I don't know if it's a know problem or

openafs kernel module
We start to use centos 5 for our workstation at our site (University Innsbruck) and we use openafs to hold the home directories. There would be a big advantage to have the openafs kernel module (and the additional rpms) in the centos extras (or addons) repository with an automatic compile for the available kernels. If you need any help to do this i would be happy to participate in any way.

ocfs seek-performance
hi list, i have a little problem with 2-node RAC using OCFS. the application running on this cluster does heavily index-based accesses. the data volumes are SAN volumes connected by fibrechannel. the throughput does not exceed 10mb/s, average is 7-8 mb/s. i've used 'iostat -x' and got rkB/s=8000 while %util=100% (device was saturated) from kernel's POV. i did some

OPenAFS and OpenSSH replacing kafs
Would OpenSSH be willing to accept a modification similar to the one below to replace the kafs modification to get an AFS PAG and token? The nice features of this are that it can be compiled in even if OpenAFS is not available. At runtime if the dynamic library is present, it can be loaded and called. A dynamic lib is used so the setpag is in the same process. It has been reported that the

3-layer structure and the bonnie rewrite problem
Hello list First of all: Good work and thanks for GlusterFS! I'm totally new to GlusterFS, but i like it a lot and think about migrating my NFS setup completely to GlusterFS.
