Share modes problems
Hi all, I'm having a problem with share modes (at least I think it's share modes) on my samba server. The problems only seem to have manifested themselves since I updated to samba 2.0.0. This has coincided with an upgrade to our system, so it is conceivable that the problem may be with that, but I think it more likely that it is to do with samba (since errors are reported in the log

3.0beta5 disconnecting drives
Hi there! Seems that my 2.0beta5 is not going as smoothly as I'd hoped. We've found a strange behaviour which is only happening when people first log in in the morning. When we log in, a number of drives are mapped to various directories on the Unix box. Things seem to go OK until another person logs in and tries to access a file already open by another user. Then they both seem to

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list! I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current) against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I can repeatedly test the

File copy error with Samba 2.2.x and 3.0/Novell/Win2k
Hello, We're experiencing a problem with samba after an upgrade, which only occurs when using a strange combination of software. The problem only occurs with samba 2.2 and higher. This problem does not occur with samba 2.0. We tested this with samba 3.0alpha17, 2.2.2, 2.2.4, and 2.0.10 First off, sticking to procedure, TESTs 1-11 as described in DIAGNOSIS.txt succeed. I've gone as

Help! Problem with Samba 2.0.5a + WinNT4.0 SP5 (process 7281 no longer exists)
Hi All! Help! can anyone tell me what this message means? I'm running samba-2.0.5a. It sort of works, I can mount a samba drive from WinNT and run programs stored on the samba drive, but when I try and open an oracle form file on the samba drive, form reports an error opening the file. large file pre-allocation causing Windows error
I'm trying to copy a 400 MB file from a Windows 98 host to a FreeBSD 4.5 Samba server providing access to a FAT32 filesystem. I've got "strict allocate = no", but from what I can see with debug set to 10, it is doing a ftruncate which takes about 50 seconds to complete. It appears that Windows gets impatient and generates an error (while Samba is still waiting for the

Windows 2K Offline files
Is anyone else experiencing problems with offline files and folders on Win 2K (SP4)? They are set up OK but when the Win2K machine goes off line and files are modified it won't sync back when back on the network. Error message from the file sync on windows is 'Access denied' (on the server) But I can easily do the overwrite manually so permissions are OK. Below is the log (level 10)

Migrating from 1.9.19-prealpha
Hi, We have been using 1.9.19-prealpha very successfully for over a year and have just started migrating to 2.0.4b, the environment is Sun Sparc running Solaris 2.5.1 and NT 3.51 & 4.0(/sp3). On the servers that have been upgraded, the log files are filling up with some ominous messages, but curiously, users are not reporting any errors at the moment. The following are characteristic of

NT_STATUS question
Hi all Got a couple of errors in the logs wondering what they mean??? Google does not come up with too much on these NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE, NT_STATUS_SHARING_VIOLATION, NT_STATUS_INVALID_LEVEL and NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND. Four clips illustrating the above are below... I have am wondering how I sort this out. I am particularly worried about the NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE. All the

get_share_modes problem
I have samba 2.0.5a running on Openserver 5.0.5 with the latest patches installed. I got this specific version from Skunkware (SCO's distribution of Open Source binary packages). AFAIK, they make no changes to the actual source. I have no problems with using samba for name service and printing, however with file sharing I am having some strange problems. I sporadically get problems like

"session was cancelled" on large file xfers
I've seen a couple mentions of trouble w/ large files in the list archives, but nothing that seems to resolve this problem... When trying to move or copy largish files (~ >1MB) with WinN using Samba 1.9.18p10 on a Sparc Solaris 2.5 system, things hang for a while and then a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot copy {filename}: The session was cancelled. Problem with large files
Hi we have samba 3.0.14a on FreeBSD 5.4. We tried with different kind of locking and oplocks (both enabled and disabled). If we try to copy from a Windows XP client a file larger than 3g, we get these error: Cannot copy XXX. The specified network name is no longer available. We traced this problem in the logs (log level 10) and we got this error ------------ [2006/09/19 10:29:41, 5]

Quicken backup and Samba 2.2.8a on FreeBSD
I've run into difficulty getting Quicken 2001 and Quicken 2003 backup to work with a Samba server. My smb.conf is relatively simple (below is a slightly editted version with the important stuff): ================================= [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP server string = BigBoxNAS netbios name = bigbox log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m ; log level = 3 max log size = 50 security = user
