Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (re posted)
Did you change your "security" setting in your new Samba e.g. from "share" to "domain"? -----Original Message----- From: peter.a.bryant@mainroads.qld.gov.au [mailto:peter.a.bryant@mainroads.qld.gov.au] Sent: Friday, 14 March, 2003 7:00 AM To: samba@lists.samba.org Cc: John H Terpstra Subject: Re: [Samba] Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)

Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Sorry to have to repost this (didn't get any response on the first post), we really need some of the fixes of the new Samba but cannot go ahead without the support for the older machines. Need to prove that Samba is the great product that I believe it is. Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines. Printing is working fine for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients.

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT ,2000, XP are ok)
Thanks for the suggestion Andrew, I was hopeful, but removing the writeable made no difference. Still prints from NT, 2000, XP but not from Win95, 98. Any other ideas? -peter. win2k usernames with spaces
Hi all, one of the win2k clients of my network uses an ID with one space inside, e.g. "jack smith". I succeeded in creating a Linux user with such a name, but have troubles in adding him to the smb users. Any suggestion? PS Running RH 8.0 & Samba 2.2.5 When i had RH 6.2 & Samba ?.?.? the trick worked out. Thanx maq

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok)
Please lend me some expertise... Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for this and none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either... If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to get these older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help! Have several

printing - Win95 & Win98 not working - NT,2000, XP are ok.
Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines. Printing is working okay for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients. However, with windows 95 & 98, the print job gets put into the Samba spool directory (path = /var/spool/lp/tmp/samba) but doesn't make it to the printer. The print files stay there in the directory - don't get removed. Samba version is 2.2.7a, on

Reposted: WinXP Pro domain join OK -- add domain users to local groups NOT
I'm sorry to repost this one but it seemed to get no attention the first time it was posted ... here it goes, again: Good day everyone and sorry to add to the traffic with one more (possibly stupid) question. I have the following problem which I could reproduce with both Samba 2.2.7 and 2.2.8 and with about 5 Microsoft clients. I've installed WindowxXP Pro (w/SP1), I modified

help on Venn's diagram
Hello! I have this problem: I want to create a Venn's diagram with three lists of genes'names. The first is all the genome, the second a subset of it comprising all mitochondrial genes, and the third including all genes that correlate with a given gene. This is what I do: > library(gplots) > A<-read.delim("F:/.../mito genes just names.txt") >

Guild Wars 1 and Stops Win95 and Win98 Support
Dear Wine-Community! Guild Wars stops on 2012-14-06 the support for Windows 95,98. But since Wine-Users could switch the Windows version to Windows XP or above we are not effected.. are we? This should be an action to made the Guild Wars Client safer and to protect User Accounts. Couldn't guess what security Mechanism Windows 2000 do support that is missing in Windows 95 and 98. No doubt

TCP/IP Slowness (was win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP)
Hi, I had similar problems with Samba and speed. To begin with, I thought it was a Samba problem, and spent a lot of time stuffing around with smb.conf Then, just to make certain it was Samba and not a generic TCP/IP problem, I tried ftp'ng a big file to and from the Samba server from W95. Speed was only 20 k/sec - about 2% of the expected speed of a 10-Base-T network. Same for FTP'ng

Encrypted passwords and OS2/Win95/Win98
My LAN is running Samba v1.9.18p10 under RedHat Linux v5.2. Using the SMB services are Win95 and OS/2 clients. It's all running fine. I will soon be adding Win98, though, and I understand that there is a question of password encryption. I'm concerned how the encrypted/plain-text communication of password will affect my existing configuration. If I reconfigure Samba to use encrypted

migration win95 -> win98
Hi everybody, we are currently running a small network with a samba server and a few Windows _95_ workstations. The server stores roaming profiles for all users and provides authentification (logon scripts, policy file, ...) Now, we are planning to add a Windows _98_ workstation. Q1: Will Win95 and Win98 be able to work with the same user profiles, policy file etc? If not, what can I do? Q2:

Win95 and Win98 - hanging while shutdown
Hallo! I have a small problem. As I installed a Samba-server at one of our customers (office of foreign affairs, AKA consulate), Win98r2 does not want to shut down, the system hangs. It looks like if Windows "forgets" to disconnect the services before shutdown (at least the system hangs - over night (!!) and according to logfiles the workstation has not made any disconnect). As I

Building openssh-3.5p1 with new DES functions
Hi, I've installed openssl-0.9.7 and now am testing current openssh-cvs. The kerberosIV installation has it's own libdes.a. I'm quite please openssh built successfully, congratulations! Unfortunately, kerberos autentication is not tried at all. As far as I remeber, Ja Iven who wrote some patch, which as he said got into 3.5p1 also removed the ifdef's that --with-privsep no longer

two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all, I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port, the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both printers are

Win95/Samba problem: Can't log on first time, second time OK
Hi! I have set up a Win95/Samba network at our school. The server is a Digital Venturis 575e running RedHat Linux 5.0 and Samba 1.9.18p7. The clients are Win95 machines. Quite often when a user tries to log on to the network, he gets this message: 'The domain password you supplied is not correct, or access to your logon server has been denied.' However, if he tries again with the same

On out local network, I can see all the boxes in the network from the laptop (hostname: dcrlaptop), but I can only connect to it's normal server (hostname: lakehouse). dcrlaptop is running Win98 and the host I am trying to connect to is

No printer status on Win2K client; Win98 and Linux clients are OK
My Win98(SE) Samba clients can query the Samba-exported printer status, but Win2K(SP3) clients cannot. Both clients can actually print documents. I am running Samba v2.2.3a on a Linux (Red Hat v7.3) system. This server makes 2 printers (via a LPR subsystem) and several shared directories available to our Linux, Win98 and Win2K (soon to be WinXP also) clients. From a Win98 client, print
