create mask = 0777
What do the following lines mean in the smb.conf file:
create mask = 0777
directory mode = 0775
I would like to know where i can learn more about what those numbers about
signify.
Also where can i find archives for this list so I don't keep bringing up old
topics?
Thanks

cannot locate roaming profile
I've just edited smb.conf to make it a PDC on my SuSE 9.1 machine. I
can add other machines to the domain but when I try to log on, I get the
message "Windows cannot locate your roaming profile...blah blah" My
config file is below.

usrmgr not functioning
I'd really appreciate any ideas on this problem that I've been working on for a few days now. Any hints on how I can diagnose or resolve the problem please.
Whenever I try to run the User Manager (usrmgr.exe) on a Windows machine (usually as root) it brings up the domain users, but selecting any name I get the error:
"The device attached to the system is not functioning"

ERROR(S): Profile Creation
I have recently been assigned to create a Samba PDC. Earlier in the
week, I thought I was successful. I was able to log in, load (or create)
the test user's .ntprofile, etc. Went home that night, happy as could be.
Came back the next day - and nothing was working correctly. The systems
could not find the domain. The domain was not

Samba PDC not creating roaming profiles
Hi All,
I have recently moved my PDC from a linux suse 7.0 box to a
Solaris 8 server. I have downloaded the samba 2.2.8a and
installed it without any errors.
I used my old smb.conf and made the neccasry changes to it, I
have pasted it below.
I don't receive any errors, it just ends up using a local profile and
doesn't bother to update it to the server.
I have looked at countless

login script variable problem
Good morning. Let me start by thanking those of you who helped with my
first question posed to this group.
Now, I have a working PDC. This is wonderful. I have a problem with my
login script though. I can't seem get the %u or %U variable to work. I am
trying to map a drive letter via the login.bat script file for each user
that authenticates to the domain, however it seems to strip the

Warning when compiling nmbd_incomingdgrams.c
I just downloaded samba-1.9.18p3.tar.gz and compiled it on a DEC 3000/300
running OSF/1 v3.0 (uname -mrsv gives: "OSF1 V3.0 347 alpha") using the

The compiler gives the following warning:

My first LDAP PDC - Win2k Profiles, redirection and guest accounts
Dear List,
This is my first post here, but yesterday I finally configured a full
PDC with LDAP backend using Chapters 4 and 5 of the Samba Guide (exact
same directory and shares setups just now). Very well written!
I am slowly getting the other things like printing and DNS added, but
I wanted to confirm/ask a few things.
When I first logged on I got complaints about not being able to create

SetPrinter call failed
I am having trouble getting the cupsaddsmb script to work to add the
drivers. Everything seems to work (it copies the drivers to the correct
directories), but I keep getting the result NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL error
message on the rpcclient setdriver command. When trying to connect to
the printer from a 2K client, I see a client-error-not-found error in
the log.
I can't seem to find

Suggestions? Multiple servers/storages one domain
Hi,
currently we do have one samba3x-3.5.10-0.109.el5_8 RH EL 5.8 PDC
authenticating by our central LDAP server.
This PDS also hosts the central fileserver storage for all our +- 600
users, some group shares and roaming profiles.
The clients are OS X, Win XP and Win 7. We hope to have all XP 'killed'
by end of the year.
Furthermore we do have a second stand alone samba server for some

Windows 2000 logon error
Hello,
I have Samba 2.2.3 running on a Solaris 7 server. I have many Windows 98
and a handful of Windows 2000 computers authenticating against it for
logging in and filesharing. One of the users (Jeff) had his Windows 98
workstation replaced with a Windows 2000 workstation. I have other
Windows 2000 computers and their users can log in fine, and they all have
the same network settings for the
