Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok)
Please lend me some expertise...
Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for
this and
none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either...
If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to
get these
older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help!

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT ,2000, XP are ok)
Thanks for the suggestion Andrew, I was hopeful,
but removing the writeable made no difference.
Still prints from NT, 2000, XP but not from Win95, 98.
Any other ideas?
-peter.

Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (re posted)
Did you change your "security" setting in your new Samba e.g. from "share"
to "domain"?

printing - Win95 & Win98 not working - NT,2000, XP are ok.
Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines.
Printing is working okay for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients.
However, with windows 95 & 98, the print job gets put into the Samba
spool directory (path = /var/spool/lp/tmp/samba) but doesn't make it to the
printer.
The print files stay there in the directory - don't get removed.
Samba version is 2.2.7a, on

AutoCAD file names UPPER CASE on samba
Hi folks, we are experiencing a problem when AutoCAD 2000+ drawing files
are saved on a Samba (2.0.8) file share.
Regardless of what the file is 'saved as', the name is always converted to all
capitals.
e.g. Drawing1 becomes DRAWING1
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.
Seems strange that it is only AutoCAD files, but I think it is Samba related,
not AutoCAD,

2.2.5, Sol 2.8, W2k - Printers...Status: Access Denied unable to connect - ??
hi
When I highlight a printer icon in Win 2K, the Status bar shows
Status: Access Denied, Unable to connect.
It shows this for all samba printers.
I can print a test page even though it shows access denied.
Anyone know how to fix this?
thanks.

Fw: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Hi Peter,
i had a long, frunstrating web surfing yesterday night, searching for
something
that could apply to your case. I didn't find much at all, sorry. The only
thing
perhaps interesting to you could be this:
http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/printer_driver2.html
This doc contains a section about migrating from 2.0.x to 2.2.x

Case Sensitive Problem
I am using samba to share a directory that lives on an OpenBSD 3.1 box. The
client is my linux box. I want to mount this directory so I can use my own
tools on the linux box to edit the code.
My problem is that there is a file "boucer" which is an executable and a
"Bouncer" directory. I'm sure you can see my problem. I tried putting case

Windows changes file ownership & ACL's - any solution?
We have a problem with file security settings changing when
a file is edited by someone who is not the owner.
When the edited file is saved, ownership is transferred to the
person who edited the file. Also, access control settings for the
file are reset to a default setting.
This is a real problem, since in some cases it means that the
original owner of the file no longer has permission to edit

Are these BUGS? anyone experienced either of these?
I have experienced a couple of (minor) problems with Samba
Thought I would report these and ask if they are known problems.
1. Problem with "!" in username map file
2. Samba tools e.g. smbstatus, testparm not accounting for "config file"
parameter
1. There appears to be a problem with a minor part of username map file
interpretation.
When I put an exclamation mark

Infrasoft MX very slow loading from Samba share
We are experiencing long delays when loading MX files stored on our samba
fileserver.
We are running version 2.2.7a of Samba on Solaris 8 servers.
Using MX version 2.5 and higher on windows 2000 and XP workstations
When the files are stored locally they load in a few seconds, whilst taking more
than a minute to run
from the Samba server. Our current workaround is to store the files locally,

(2.2.5) Does AUTO PRINTER DRIVERS work - definitive statement please
Hi, could someone who is close to the Samba development
make a comment about the automatic printer drivers features in Samba 2.2.5
I've been trying to get this working unsuccessfully, and have seen many
messages posted from people having trouble with this feature.
Not sure if this is an unnusual number of people with problems, but
it seems like it ( I could be too close to the problem to see

printer driver installation yet again (as if anyone here cared...)
Hi,
got a samba server which serves tons of printers. ok, 70. With some of
them, driver installation from a win2k client works, with some it
doesnt. printers are ALL configured the same in smb.conf:
[(name in unix printing system)]
comment = model of printer
path = /tmp
printable = yes
browseable = yes
for example:
[ljwasat]
comment = Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4000 N
path =

Linux and Samba vs WIN2K
Hi Folks,
First let me introduce myself. My name is Mike Maki. I work as an IT
specialist for a Federal agency, the National Park Service, in the Santa
Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in Thousand Oaks. I have attended
a few SCLUG meetings in the past at the old Nortel building but have not
been able to attend lately. I do watch this list closely and have gained
much from it.

Samba configuration
I'm trying to config a Linux box to integrate into a windows network using
pam_smb and samba.
Ive set it up so that using pam_smb I can get the user to log onto the
linux desktop with their NT id and password.
The only problem is once the user is logged on they need to be able to
access shared resources disk, printers etc... without the need to
reauthenticate to the domain, i.e. use a cache

something wrong with the list (or its members)
I've noticed the list has pretty low answer:question ratio.
I tend to think that many replies go directly to people who post the
questions and those people never bother to share the answers with the
community. I don't think this is fair so we may want to do something in
this regard. We either need certain rules that will imply posting of
summaries (as {SUN,LINUX}managers lists do), or the

RE: Samba newbie question... (SWAT)
Thanks for the performance information John, I wasn't aware that optimising the
conf could make such a difference.
I guess my way of thinking - where I want to look at the original smb.conf file
and have it nicely readable is a bit impractical,
and maybe I will soon change that way of thinking, but I think it will help your
work if you are aware of other peoples thought processes,
