W2K Server and Workstation can't join SMB/LDAP domain
I have a SMB Domain set up with a PDC and BDC. The BDC is joined to the PDC domain fine and shows up in the LDAP directory. I can add and delete users to the LDAP directory. I can use the user accounts to access the Linux boxes. My W2K boxes see the domain and domain servers when browsing. I can access the shared drive on the PDC. I cannot join the Windows servers to the domain. I get an error

simple cross-network browsing setup is failing
PROBLEM: Cross-subnet browsing is not working. Browse lists on all machines contain only the machines on the local subnet. SUMMARY OF ANALYSIS: The Local Master Browser (LMB) running Windows XP (ZAYIN) never contacts the Domain Master Browser (DMB) running Samba (BETH) to initiate a synchronization of browse lists.

A possible error in the way nmbd fails to respond to certain request packets
I have just speant several hours trying to nut out an error with a new installation of SAMBA 3, and the results may indicate something has changed with the way the Name Server (nmbd) responds to certain request. It could also be network stack related, but I am about at my limit of skills to diagnose it any further. I have just installed Fedora Core 1 to a test server in order to play around

contribution, rpm packaging
For my own needs I have created the .spec file needed for rpm packaging of the flac package. End users --------- If anyone is interested in the resulting rpm-files i have made them available on http://noa.tm/flac-rpms/ FLAC maintainers ---------------- I have attached the specfile along with hooks in Makefile.am and configure.in in unified diff format so that they are ready for inclusion in

winbind does not list users from trusted domain
Hello all. I've set up a testing environment with two Windows DCs. The first, called DCA, is serving the domain DOMA and is running Windows 2003. The second is called DCB and serves DOMB on Windows 2008. The Samba machine I'm setting up (named ULYSSES) should be able to authenticate users from both domains for shell login. I've installed Samba 3.2.3 as a Debian package and closely

smbclient broken after update
Since a bit more than a year I run a Samba4 AD server on a Debian testing box. During that period I did update and dist-update the box about twice a week, and also did update and recompile Sambe, i.e. Samba and Debian Jessie are on their latest stage. I use Bind 9.9.3 as name server, which works absolutely smooth. But two days ago something got broken, and I am totally clueless, what went

extremely noticeable artifact (britney-bug)
I really don't know if this is the same problem that was reported by Ingo Saitz (I really couldn't say which one was 128kbit and which was the original wav when blind-testing. The original had some distortion that perhaps does somehting with my cheapo soundcard) but here's a description of what i've found: When doing some sample encoding with rc2 (rebuilt rpm with latest redhat

samba 3 keeps trying to authenticate with the nt4 pdc using port 445
Hello, I'm running redhat enterprise as 3.2 with the included samba 3.0.2-6.3E. I'm trying to make this a domain member server in a nt4 domain. I've successfully joined the domain only after using the net join -p 139 option to force samba to use port 139, otherwise it kept trying to communicate over port 445. (I was watching the syn packets with tethereal). Typing wbinfo -g comes

OK, it seems to be an authentication issue. At least w.r.t. the member server. When I add the user name, it does ask me for the password and succeeds. I don't see any difference when using IP numbers instead of host names. root at circe:~# samba-tool time ulysses -U peter Password for [HOME\peter]: Fri Feb 27 14:31:46 2015 CET

Browsing in AD networks
Hello, sorry to bother you with probably another stupid question, but googl'ing didn't help here. Can someone give me an overview of how network browsing from windows workstations is supposed to work in AD networks? I have recently upgraded a samba server running an NT4-style domain with classicupgrade. The workstations are Windows 7 (with the registry fix applied to be able to join an

Asterisk died - exactly every 60 minutes
I have now a very strange situation. Asterisk dies exactly every hour at hour:09 !!! crontab has the entry: 10 3 * * * root /usr/sbin/asterisk-restart >/dev/null 2>&1 It seems that there is a time difference between mail server and asterisk server so that it might be "synchronized" to the crontab entry. *CLI> show version Asterisk CVS-HEAD built by root@vpbx on a

how to send voicemail notifcation every 15 minutes until message is checked
I have searched quite a few places and have not seen this discussed. Basically I was wondering how would you go about having an option for a user to be notified every 15 minutes until their new voicemail message is checked. Since the notification e-mails we send get sent to cell phones or actual pagers (via e-mail), there are times when a person is out of range and misses a page or just simply
