PAM authentication problem: MD5 vs crypt
Here's a strange one. I have Dovecot set up on Solaris 9. The auth portion
of the config is straight out of the box. Using PAM. We have most users in
a dbm file which is just a series of key/value pairs: key is a username,
and value is a string equivalent to a shadow entry. nsswitch.conf entry:
passwd files dbm.
For historical reasons, some users have a classic 13-character Unix crypt

Polycom Spectralink 8002 Configuration
I have a new Polycom Spectralink 8002 and am having trouble with the
configuration or the unit but I can't see what's wrong. The unit does
not seem to even attempt to register with the Asterisk proxy but I can
make calls to it. I have viewed the syslog from the device which it
will actually write to the asterisk server so I know it can be reached.
I have also run a sip debug and

Domain unavaliable
First off, I'd like to give all the people involved
with the development of Samba a big thanks. I'd have
to say that Samba is probably the single most important
piece of software that we run in our research lab.
I'd also like to say that I have had so few problems that
I probably haven't written about one in 3 years.
With that being said, I'm having problems with my

Strange Problem with Access
I would like to pose the following problem to this mailing list to see if
any of you have any suggestions you may offer.
I am running samba on a RedHat 7.2 Athalon box with software RAID 0 dual
IDE disks on an ext3 filesystem.
I have several users in a large community of users that are always hitting
the samba server. The machine has been consistently reliable with one
exception. There is

permission problems
Samba Techs,
***Question***
Can you prevent file permission problems on Samba mounts?
I have Samba 2.0.5a loaded on our SUN SPARCcenter 2000's and our HP-UX
9000's and I have had a file permission problem ever since 1.9.8 was installed
way back when. Every once in a while we have a situation where someone copies a
file from we'll say /info8/pub/word.document, to there personal

nss_ldap 5.2 update question
Hi all, I was just wondering when this update will trickle down into the
Centos repo:
http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2008-0611.html
Obviously, it just came out yesterday, so I'm not expecting it to
suddenly appear. ;) Just curious what the turn around time usually is
for RHEL bug fixes that get released and when we should expect it.
As a side note, does anyone know if there is a way

problems with exporting a chart
Dear R helpers,
I have a problem with exporting a chart (to any format). The graphic device becomes inactive and I get the 'Error: invalid graphics state' error message. I searched the help, web and FAQ but couldn't find the solution.
This is my code:
I chart a histogram for differences in R2 by sample size (an extract from the data is below). Altogether I have n=2500 observations

Wireless cannot ping gateway after 6.3 CR updates
I'm having a wireless connection issue with an HP laptop and a Zotac
media server after the 6.4 package updates from CR repository. Nothing
changed with wireless config as far as I can tell. Both have been
working fine with previous releases of 6.x.
Oddly, if a cat 5 cable is connected for a few seconds and then
disconnected the wireless works fine and survives a 'service network

http keep-alive?
I read this in a previous post (
http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/mongrel-users/2006-December/002354.html)
....
First, Mongrel accepts remote clients and creates one Thread for each
request. Mongrel also enforces a single request/response using
Connect:close headers because Ruby only supports 1024 files (so far). If
Mongrel doesn''t do this then people like yourself can write a simple

bwi: no DS tssi no OFDM tssi
Hello,
I am attempting to get by broadcom wifi card up and running, am sick of
trying to get ndis working, and am attempting to use the bwi driver
(originating in dragonflyBSD). I'm hoping others here have tried to do the
same and have some pointers. I'm using 7.1-RELEASE (system/source are
in-sync) and my card is a BCM94306MP. My dmesg is posted below.
Bwi(4) is installed and it

Hello,
I have an annoying little issue. I am currently running Samba 2.2.5-10
as a Primary Domain Controller and have a number of shared drives with a
variety of differing users and user rights all over the place.
In my smb.conf file, I have the following share:

Email dictionary attacks and firewall
I keep seeing 'Joe Average compromised computer on broadband' being used
to do email dictionary attacks on our systems. Seems I always have
several domains going through these. One in particular has been in the
'a-' list for weeks with about 20,000 attempts per day from various
systems. Yeah, I do have a system which blocks email from these systems
for a period of time after 3

Help with Partial Transfer Error?
Hello,
I'm fairly new to rsync so please bear with me. I'm trying to use cwRsync to sync
my spambayes installation between my laptop and home computer, both running
WinXP. I have configured rsync servers (cwrsync) on both machines.
Now, I am trying to pull the files from the laptop rsync server down to the home
computer and I'm encountering the error:
