cleanup_recycle.pl problem (maybe OT)
Hi all This maybe slightly OT, but I just noticed an interesting difficulty with the cleanup_recycle.pl script that comes with 2.2.7a. I run it on a cron job every night, deletes files and directories after 3 days. The trouble I have is that some of my directory are named with spaces in them ie "Base Maps" rather than a more proper "Base_Maps" The script really doesn't

CUPs and Samba and XP
Hullo All. The preamble.... Samba 2.2.7a compiled against CUPS, CUPs v 1.1.6 (version that came with Mandrake 9.0), using client side drivers (raw printing) on XP. Printing works, cancelling jobs via the web interface works after the spooling is done. What doesn't work. Pausing jobs (though that's not as important as the next trouble) and cancelling jobs from XP. If I cancel a job by

Opening files issue.
Hi all. I've looked, and I do recall a posting from earlier addressing this, but I can't get the right combo of key-words to google up the solution. If I open a file (say a .doc) from windows explorer, the program launches and that file loads quickly. If I use the open dialogue from the application, the file loads slowly. Looking in performnce monitor I see that if I load the file from

An addendum to my PDC troubles.
OK, I lied a bit about not being able to add users. I can do that just fine, if I remember to set the UID above 1000. I still cannot add a computer or log in as root with a client machine. I can change password just fine from WIN2000/XP for all users, including root. I get the error message "The system cannot find message text for message number 0x%1 inthe message file for %2" only if

4.0 stopped working after updating xubuntu 13.04
Hi I got some strange issues on my samba4.0.1 install yesterday. It happened a while after updating my xubuntu server 13.04 not 13.10. Everything seems to be working fine except shares. Kerberos authentication seem to function properly, also DNS works fine but shares seem semi-broken. I can't mount any shares on my Windows box, including netlogon, profiles. I have one share that is

Timing of banner
A user at a Windows PC uses our SSH client software (Anzio) to access a Linux sshd. User would like the banner from the server to display BEFORE entering a login name. According to the SSH spec, this should be allowed. But the OpenSSH source seems to have specifically prevented this. Is there a good reason for this? problem with centos.org whois
It looks like someone pooched a domain transfer, and the whois entry for centos.org is missing its NS records. I've sent an email to the whois tech contact @redhat, but I'm sending this to the list to hopefully bring it to someone else's attention, as well. Hopefully it gets gets out before my mailserver expires its DNS cache for centos.org. Expect centos.org to be offline for a bit

Killing the OpenSSH server doesn't cause the Windows OpenSSH client to die
It depends how you "kill" the SSH server. If you kill it by sending it a SIGKILL signal, it will NOT notify the client, so the client will stay running until the client discovers the connection is broken. What happens if you send the SSH server a SIGHUP signal? This should cause an orderly shutdown on the server, which should notify the client, which should cause the client to do

Migrate DC from Small Business Server 2011 to Samba 4
Hello Thor, >From our experience with one client whom had the same situation as you, we first migrated exchange to another mail system then we migrated the AD part. The SBS version we had to migration only allowed a secondary DC for a fixed period of time . The Exchange mail extensions were properly handled by Samba, even if they weren't used anymore. I don't remember the exact

Established connection timing out
I don't believe you've said: are the disconnects happening during periods of idleness on the connection, or periods of activity? If idleness, some device or script could be actively doing a disconnect-on-idle. connecting to samba from 2003 sbs domain client running xpprofi
Hi, Addition to my message below.. Computers which doesnt login to the domain controller at startup like windows xp home ed. , dont seem to have this effect. It seems that you have to keep the connection up and running on the xp profi pc's to stop this problem from happening. ???
