File transfer corruption (NULL characters)
I've got a couple of Solaris 7 boxes that are running samba 2.2.0. When
I try to copy text files from a windows 2000 client to the server, the
resulting file is filled with all NULL characters. I tried copying the
same file to a NT server's share and there was no corruption.
When copying to the solaris share, the windows 2000 client eventually
gives the following error:

Samba version and ports
I have been unable to find what version of Samba is running on a
particular HP/UX server. The information is not included in the
../samba/lib/smb.conf where I am used to finding it. Also, I can not
tell what port they have configured on this box any tips?

Dear R People:
I have finally seen the error of my ways and have decided to use ESS for R
and S + stuff.
However, I have a question right from the beginning. I'm somewhat confused
by the installation instructions.
Do I install XEMACS or ESS first, please?

Hi All,
We're trying to get R with the standard gui loaded onto CentOS 4, and
under certain users R will not render certain graphics. When logged in
as root the graphics render, but under the restricted user they don't.
The graphics don't render with the error:

I have installed samba 2.2.9 to use SSL but i am having problems testing the

I was thinking that this could be something that i have missed on the PC

FW: openssh 4.0 - sftp batch mode behavior
Hello,
I just installed the openssh 4.0 for Solaris. The users have reported a
difference in behavior when using the batch mode of sftp client.
Previously they could issue the following command sftp -b batchfile
user at hostname and in the absence of publickey authentication they would
be issued the password prompt and they could enter password and the
process would continue.

I don?t recomend to use Bind 9.8.1 / 9.8.2 anymore - most distro use it but the shuold move due DLZ compile & bind bugs.

Disk Space Problems with Rsync.
I have a problem with rsync causing a filesystem to think that it is 100%
used when actually it isn't. A quick reboot will cause the filesystem to go
to about 70%-75% used. Below is the script that I am executing. I am using

Can R work on very large of data?
Hello..
I am pretty new for R, but if I understand it correctly, when R read data by
doing something like "d <- read.table("/dev/stdin")", it read entire data
first then start processing..
Is there anyway I can tweak R around so that it will start processing as
data comes and not load everthing on memory at once? The reason for this is
because we have a case where

Hi!
I have been in discussion with several other accessibility projects to
work on a common API for speech synthesis and speech recognition drivers.
I suggested to discuss this on a mailing list and to found a new list at
freedesktop.org for this purpose. Since there are also a number of other

Upssched not getting called from UPSMON
Where syslog output ends up is an OS specific question and depends upon the configuration of the system logger in use.
On most systems the logging information will be found in /var/log. On most Linux systems, the default system log is /var/log/messages.

silent data corruption with rsync
Hi everbody!
I'm currently working in a project which has to copy huge amounts of data from one storage to another. For a reason I cannot validate any longer, there is a roumor that "rsync may silently corrupt data". Personally, I don't believe that.
"They" explain it this way: "rsync does an in-stream data deduplication. It creates a checksum for each data block
