RE:How to decide mode and journal size?
Hi.
I am using a large storage which is ext2 file system of 1T byte.
It has many file types, doc, mail data, zip, etc. It doesn't have
a database file. I want to change the file system from ext2 to
ext3. It also can't divide to any partitions.
How to decide journal mode and journal size?
Please advice to me.

querying the ext3 journal
I'm not sure if this question makes sense, but here goes. We have the need
to periodically check for newly created/modified files in a rather elaborate
and well populated directory structure. I don't believe that simply walking
the directory and checking stat's is the answer, given that I need a process
that will impose minimal performance degredation on the system. Would it be

ext3 waking hard disk
hi :)
when using ext3, i can't get my hard disks to go to standby mode
any more. i am using timeouts set by hdparm with 2.4.18 kernels.
even when i issue a standby command manually, the disk
spins up again after a few seconds.
however, (to my knowledge) no user space program accessed
this disk at that time.
i suspect ext3's journal to be causing the disk accesses.
is that possible?

ext3 device reported to be 100% full, but we do not know where?
Hello to everybody here,
We have a strange problem with ext3. df reports 28 of 30 GB to be used
(rest may be slack) which it calls 100% used. But with du we can only
find 13 GB, most of it actually in pretty large files (archives). Where
are the other 17 GB gone?
Thanks
Michael

ext3 blocks other with large writes
Hi there,
First of all thanks for all the ext3 development! I run it on my laptop
and it has saved me many times from lengthy fscks :-)
However, I have observed that whenever something is doing a lot of
writing to an ext3 filesystem other processes that involves I/O on the
same disk are blocked for long times (often in the 10-30 secs range).
For example, if I cp a 1.5 Gb file from one ext3

cdrom driver load attempt at boot
Hi there,
I've been using ext3 on RedHat 7.1 for some time and I'm very pleased with
the result. Thanks for all the hard work people have put in it!
I have however one problem: when the machine boots up it tries to load the
mcd and mcdx CD-ROM drivers (AFAIK they are old non-standard CD-ROMs). It
does this from rc.sysinit right after loading usb devices. The machine
started to do

image files or partions
Hello,
I''ve installed xen3 and asked myself whats better, image files or
partions?
I will prefer image files because of the flexible handling, but I''ve
heard that real partions are faster.
Thanks a lot for any hints?

Best method for booting logical partions via syslinux...
Hi.
Which is the preferable method for booting multiple logical partions via syslinux ?
1. Create seperate logical (fat 32) partitons for 'each' Live CD,
extracted and prepared identically via syslinux/syslinux.cfg (sdc5,
sdc6,sdc7 etc.)
2. Use Grub2 to attempt to boot seperate logical partitions with the same extracted Live CD plan as above.
3. Use the chain.c32 module that

RAID Hot Spare
I've googled this question without a great deal of information.
Monday I'm rebuilding a Linux server at work. Instead of purchasing 3
drives for this system I purchased 4 with intent to create a hot spare.
Here is my usual setup which I'll do again but with a hot spare for each
partion.
Create /dev/md0 mount point /boot RAID1 3 drives with 1 hot spare
Create two more raid setups

text works with the postscript device?
Dear R experts,
R (0.63) does not seem to write me any text in a PS file.
Trying
x11()
plot(12)
text(5,5, "Hello World")
works fine.
Now I would like to have the same as a PS file.
postscript("foobar.ps")
plot(12)
text(5,5,"Hello World")
dev.off()
Gives me a PS file with the plot -- but without the
"Hello World".
Why? I'm completely clueless.
Ciao

disk partitioning: 6.0 install to harddrive using liveCD
Greetings:
I'm planning to set up a test Centos 6.0 box (has CDROM, but no
DVD) with these partions:
/ 10GB ( no separate mount for /usr )
/tmp 1GB
/var 10GB
/boot 500MB
The centos mirrors I have seen do not provide the full distro on
CD (this box has no DVD). I'm used to having about 6 CD isos to work with.
The livecd install to hard

prod(0, 1:1000) ; 0 * Inf etc
I think most of us would expect prod(0:1000) to return 0, and ...
... it does.
However, many of us also expect
prod(x1, x2) to be equivalent to
prod(c(x1,x2))
the same as we can expect that for min(), max(), sum() and such
members of the "Summary" group.
Consequently, prod(0, 1:1000) should also return 0,
but as you see, it gives NaN which may be a bit puzzling...

Bug#609517: xen-utils-3.2-1: Pygrub can't find grub.conf in a reiserfs partion on amd64 arch
Package: xen-utils-3.2-1
Version: 3.2.1-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
Hi,
There is a bug xen-3-3.2.1/tools/libfsimage/reiserfs/fsys_reiserfs.c,
it is using "unsigned long" which is 64 bits on amd64 arch and 32
bits on i386 arch.
This makes pygrub can't work on reiserfs on amd64 arch. You can easily
reproduce it.
A patch is included for fixing this problem.
