It works fine It would appear with the win 2000 clients. But I essentially have two problems 1. When I have PGP installed on the machine and log in with a roaming profile . It creates a network associates folder that does not get

ACL issues still unresolved
Hi all, The two problems I'm having with ACLs on a W2k domain are still no closer to a solution. To wit, they were: (a) Users accessing the ACL properties dialog on W2k can modify and remove existing ACLs on a given file, but they cannot add new ones (that can only be done with setfacl on the cmdline; the changes are then recognised); (b) In said ACL properties dialog, the usernames

mapping drive in XP hangs
Hello list, I have been using samba (was last at 2.2.2) sucessfully for nearly two years on my solaris systems as the file server to my pcs. Recently (since last friday) my XP boxes cannot map a drive, and auto-mapped home dirs cause a huge timeout of over 15 minutes! Nothing has changed in my config file, nothing changed on the system. Just to try something, today I upgraded to 2.2.7, but still

Old bug resurfacing?
I found this in the archives: http://samba.cadcamlab.org/lists/samba/Feb2002/00318.html It pertains pretty directly to the problem I'm seeing. I first started having it with my 2.7 installed version so I upgraded to 2.8. I'm still having the same problem. Basically, I have a group of web developers that use the linux/samba server for editing files for the site. All the files are

Directory went missing
I had a major problem to today. The owner of a company I built a network for had a directory in her home directory containing most of her work documents go missing. I looked at the log for her workstation and she did work on them in the morning. By afternoon, she return to her workstation and tried to open the directory but it was gone. The directory and all the directories and files were there

2gb limit & weird filenames
Hello, I'm trying to set up a samba server for a friend who has a mac. He's running OSX, version 10.2. He's got some really big video editing files that are well in excess of 2gb. We're trying to back these up to the samba server, but it quits right around 2gb. That seems to be a magical number. This is with version 2.2.3 of Samba, and Linux-Mandrake 8.2, ext3 file system. I

using samba as unix network filesystem
Hi guys (and girls), I came up with the idea to use samba to share files between 3 linux machines I administer. I've set it all up, it works. No problem. But.. Samba is by origin a windows filesharing application. Result: 2 files with equal names but with different case, can not be stored in the same directory by samba. I've been trying to find a way around this, and thought I had found

known bugs/issues/gotchas
Hi sambafolks, I see a number of topics cropping up here repeatedly over the last few weeks: * Files > 4GB not supported This is confirmed and solved in 2.2.7a, but not in the current incarnation of smbfs (which is not part of samba, I know, but will get discussed here as a related topic) * desktop.ini weirdness in profiles I've seen this mentioned a few times with no sign of a

File Systems - Which one to use?
We are looking at implementing a Linux box running samba in the near future with about 1TB of disk online. The purpose of this box will be for basic file and printer sharing needs. I am doing research on the different journaling file systems avaible in RH 7.3 and up (ext3, reiserFS, and JFS) and was wondering if anyone has had any real world experience with them (mostly reiserFS and JFS) and

Samba and quotas
Hi all, Being new on this list I do not really know if this is the correct list to post. After searching the archives I am pretty sure the answer is not yet here (or I can't search, which can be true) My problem is as follows We are currently testing a Linux/Samba server to host the home shares for about 1000 students at our school (the test is conducted with just 10 of them). With ca
