Best Partitioning Tool?
Hi All,
which is the best tool for partitioning, as I forgot to bring in my copy
of PartitionMagic(DOH!!) and need to resize an NTFS partition today. I'm
using XP Pro at the moment. I wish to resize a 38GB partition, primary,
to 20GB and use the rest for a Linux Install(CentOS 4-3). Cheers.

Information about usage pls
Hi all,
Today I read the post (Andrew Morton) and knew that
there are three options for ext3 (never know before
:-)) I would like to ask where the documentation is or
how I can pass to the mount command to use the other
two (now I saw it is in the data ordered mode)
Thank you very much indeed.

syslinux tool for Win2k and 'safeboot' option
Hello
I think syslinux is great and just downloaded 2.00 and will start using it
in a couple of days.

We use an IDE<->compactflash-adapter in our target-system. We use a
USB-compact-flash reader/writer(SanDisk/ImageMate) on our linux-host to
write the flash. It appears in the Linux-system as '/dev/sda', and we can
use syslinux and mount for copying kernel, syslinux.cfg and our

SV: syslinux tool for Win2k and 'safeboot' option
Hello Luis
Thansk
Yes we tried that and it works, but if you are in the field and only have
new
clean compact-flash and no DOS, you are in trouble.
I can syslinux directly to the USB card-reader/writer under Linux without
problems too.
It just appears as a SCSI-device(/dev/sda).

High load average and client timeouts

I am setting up a proof-of-concept backup server at my office. The
end idea is for a dozen or so of our ~200 workstations to dump images
(like PowerQuest DeployCenter, not JPEG) to a 2Tb RAID5 at reasonable
speeds. The testbed (whose specs are listed below) is, I admit,
grossly lacking in RAM. I still think it should handle at least two

Samba Domain Login
Okay,
I'm really starting to run out of ideas here. Any help would really
be handy. I'm looking after a small network, clients are running win2000
SP3 and a Linux Server running samba, doing domain logins. Everything is
working fine apart from two machines (from ten). Probably once a week
one of them will fail to login in after a reboot or log off. If any
user tries to login into the

Predict in the package R2BayesX
Hi all
I'm using the function bayesx to estimate a simple model, for example:

## regressor
dat <- data.frame(x = runif(n, -3, 3))
## response

## estimate models with
## bayesx REML and MCMC
b1 <- bayesx(y ~ sx(x), method = "REML", data = dat)

gvim hangs under ssh
This happens every time. I:
1. ssh into another machine
2. start gvim
3. Select another color scheme from "Edit | Color Scheme"
At this point gvim hangs and so does the terminal that I am ssh'ed
into. I am using vim 6.1 on Solaris 7 machines. I am using:
OpenSSH_2.9p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090600f
This problem doesn't happen if I rlogin and set my

Samba. DR-DOS and Terabytes...
Hi,
We have just built a server with a terabyte of storage for a powerquest
deploycenter
file server, the deploycenter boot disks start Caldera DR-DOS 7.02 for
the actual
deploycenter software to run under. We run Linux 7.3 with the samba that
ships with
that version (sorry, I can't remember off hand and don't have access to
a linux box
right now)
The problem I have is that the

Stochastic Frontier: Finding the optimal scale/scale efficiency by "frontier" package
Hi,
I am trying to find out the scale efficiency and optimal scale of banks
by stochastic frontier analysis given the panel data of bank. I am free to
choose any model of stochastic frontier analysis.
The only approach I know to work with R is to estimate a translog
production function by sfa or other related function in frontier package,
and then use the Ray 1998 formula to find the scale

Dream of a wiki GUI for R
Dear R fans ( and wiki fans),
I am just writing a draft to introduce confidence intervals of various
"effect sizes" to my students. Surely, I'll recommend the package
MBESS in R. Currently, it means I have to recommend R's interface at
first. As a statistics teacher in a dept of psychology, I often have
to reply why not to teach SPSS. Psychologists and their students hate

On very different journalling activity on 2 servers.
Hello Folks,
We have 2 (identical hardware) busy public 2U rack servers, both have
several hundred users & peak email (for example) deliveries at 300/5min
during the daytime.
Both servers run RAID1 over 2 EIDE disk drives.
One server is fine - it never has problems - it is running RH7.3 and CPU
loads are normal.
The other server has constant disk activity & kjournald at CPU load of

Classification and Regression Tree for Survival Analysis
I am trying to use the CART in a survival analysis. I have three variables of interest (all 3 ordinal - x, y and z, each of them with 5 categories) from which I want to make smaller groups (just an example 1st category from X variable with the 2nd and 3rd categories from the Y category and 2, 3 and 4 categories from the Z category etc) based on their, let's say, association with mortality.

Ghosting Linux Partitions.
I was thinking of putting a slightly bigger HD on my Linux server and would
like to know the easiest way.
I know that ghost works well on FAT32 partitions, but does it work on Ext3
partitions too?
Id rather not reinstall if I don't have to, so any and all suggestions are
appreciated.
TIA
