SWAT, where ?
Hi there... first I apologise for being dim... Where can I download SWAT from ? I've looked on the Samba.org site but it only tells me that the demo page is off-line and no more info. Idiot proof instructions for installing it on RH 7.2 would be handy too :-) Thanks Mike

File "In Use" when it's not... problem
Hi. Occasionally a problem crops up with "File already in use by another user" when it isn't !! This is usually a Lotus organiser data file which is on the RH8/Samba 2.2.7 server. I can't find a way of clearing this "Lock" except by rebooting the server... there must be a better way, any ideas ? Thanks Mike --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Scanned with

Problem accessing SWAT with Firefox
Hi, not sure if I'm posting in the right place but couldn't find a SWAT forum. I've just changed my PC but the new one has exactly the same settings (IP, computername, login, password) as the old one, however I am getting an error when I try to access any of my Samba servers from Firefox (2.0.0.3) :- " 400 Server ErrorSamba is configured to deny access from this client Check

clients logout .............
You should be able to click Tools/Disconnect Network Drive from a Windows Explorer window, then select the connection to the Samba server and click ok. Note, this can be done even if the connection was not mapped to a drive letter, such as by typing \\server\share in the run box. You can then map a drive to the server with a different user account. Running a login script
Hello all, We are trying to find a way to run login scripts for our users but all the How-To files seem rather complicated :-( We have been using Samba for several years and all our users have Windows 2000 PCs, Samba accounts etc. They log into their Windows with a username/password OK. The Samba server is set up with the same username/password combination as their PCs so they don't have

Mapping / UNC question
Hiya! I have a developer that would like to be able to have access to a share on a UNIX server running Samba where he can use UNCs embedded in VB code on a win2k client to access files on the share. No problem, easily done. He also wants users to _NOT_ be able to use the Windows Explorer to map the drive and gain access that way. He wants only for his embedded UNCs to access the share. If you

[PATCH]: Add tcp_wrappers protection to port forwarding
Hi, attached is a patch by Chris Faylor <cgf at cygnus.com> relative to 2.2.0p1. Description: OpenSSH does not allow port gatewaying by default. This means that only the local host can access forwarded ports. Adding "GatewayPorts yes" to .ssh/config usually does this job. Unfortunately, OpenSSH does not recognize the same hosts.allow/ hosts.deny options as ssh.com's sshd

Restricting file types
Samba List: Is it possible to limit what filename extensions can be stored in a samba share? We use samba to allow our windows web designers to use drag and drop when deploying new pages on our website. We want to be able to limit which filename extensions can be saved to these shares. Is this possible and if not and alternatives? Bruce Embrey

[homes]
Hi there.. during an installation of Samba (don't recall the version, maybe 2.2.6) on RH 7.2 recently it automatically created the smb.conf file and this contained basic [global] and [homes] shares. I've just installed the latest Samba 2.2.7 and it does not create smb.conf (it says in the instructions that it won't so I'm not surprised) but... the [homes] entry in the smb.conf

Can't get NUT slave to connect to master
Hi thanks Roger. Well I'm just using Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS I only ran that command as a few guides say that's how to establish if a daemon is compiled with tcp wrappers: https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/tcp-wrappers-hosts-allow-deny-tutorial/ I haven't really used TCP wrappers before so I'm not even sure if my hosts.allow entries are correct: upsd : ipaddressofclientgoeshere ups

tcp wrappers Question..
hey folks, I keep seeing this on the internet "The user name lookup feature of TCP Wrappers uses identd to identify the username of the remote host. By default, this feature is disabled, as identd may appear hung when there are a large number of TCP connections." but I cant seem to find out how/where to enable said feature. Jason

allow-query.
Hi, I am using nsd as my authority-only dns servers and find it fast, stable, reliable - all of the design goals you set out for, great. I have a zone that is intended only to be visible to people on my network. In bind I would enforce this with an 'allow-query' configuration directive. I checked the latest 'nsd-for-bind-users' document, and 'allow-query' is not

prexec change between 3.0.24 to 3.0.25
Hello, I've been testing out 3.0.25 before putting it into production and came across an issue. As a simple example.. in a share definition root preexec = echo "hey there, hi there, hello" > /tmp/hiya.txt works fine under 3.0.24 not so under 3.0.25, /tmp/hiya.txt isn't created. Cranking up the debugging and using some other similiar tests it seems to me that Samba is in

LiveIce/IceCast Error
Greetings everyone.... I tried posting this once before, but got no response. When I run liveice, I get an "Error:sending data to remote server message" from liveice, and then it hangs (I actually have to open another console window to kill the process). The IceCast server respond with the following: Kicking source 1 [127.0.0.1] [Access Denied (tcp wrappers (source connection))]

Limit access to dovecot by domains?
Hi. Is there any way to limit access to dovecot by domains. I only need to give access to a well known set of domains, all from Australia and all networks are known and used either from people at home or mobile access (phones, laptops etc). iptables is not possible as e.g. OPTUS does not give away all of the networks mobile phones are connected to. I know some, but not all. It would be much

upgrade from fedora to centos?
Hiya, just wondering how easy this would be, I'm guessing through yum, but is there a preferable process from updating from fed core 3 to centos ideally keeping settings as is? (desktop rather than server, just want to migrate to centos, nothing too essential apart from raw data). Ian
