I have been using Mandriva 2007 Linux and have installed Mandriva 2008; Samba
has stopped working as described below. What is wrong?

OK, one more time on the PDC thing
My apologies, I'm terribly sorry to belabor these PDC issues to the point
where everyone is undoubtedly tired of hearing about them, but I have
become absolutely obsessed with trying to solve this PDC problem. Here is
what is happening now. I'm trying to connect to the Samba server which is
set up as the PDC (domain PLAB) from windows client "venus". Windows

Samba kills network.
When i try to swap files between disks on my server using samba i get
errors: then windows reports "The specified network name is no longer
available". Sometimes the copies are fine other times files just wont
copy. Hardware checks out fine. Ive even replaced the network cable
between server and switch thinking that might be causing the problem.
Ive included a ethereal cap of the

Question on force user & log messages
I am running samba on HP-UX 10.20 with clients on Win95.
I have two questions.
Where can I get more information on the force user parameter?
I am using it but am unable to get it to properly prompt for
a password when mapping it.
Next question deals with log messages in log.nmb. Where are these
two messages coming from and how do I get rid of them?

The answer is blowing in the WINS
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am writing to ask your opinion on how many WINS and WINS proxies are
necessary in a routed network.
The questions are in the context of using the Samba 1.9.18 nmbd as a WINS
or WINS proxy with MS Windows for Workgroups or MS Windows 95 clients.
Is it
A) 1 WINS, 0 WINS proxies (every host asks the WINS for NetBIOS names with
Unicast)
B) 1 WINS, n WINS proxies
