WinXP3: NBNS query: non-exist; Wireshark: "'NB ?'<00>" & "'NB ?'<20>"
I'm getting some odd queries from a WinXPSP3 client to an older samba (3.2.0-24) Domain & File server running on linux kernel (2.6.27.19). The client seems to be querying for a netbios name <literal-question mark> followed by binary 0 (<00>) to the DomainServer, or Broadcasting the query with the '?' followed by a space <20>. This is from conversation over wire

SMB/NMBD configuration troubles.
Folks, I am stumped! I have followed every tech tip I could find and I am still unable to complete my SMB installation. Specifically, I fail Test 4 and Tests 9 and 10. I believe the problem has something to do with the NMBD configuration. Below are the parameters of our system. Any help is greatly appreciated. Error: Invalid TID with samba 3.4
Hi, Running samba 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 on an Ubuntu 9.10 installation. I've previously been running ubuntu intrepid ibex (samba 3.2.3). Since the upgrade I've had issues with a device not finding any wokrgroups/domains when doing an nmb lookup. The device is a wireless music player that can make an SMB connection and has worked fine until the upgrade. When sniffing the network, I get a log
